Yes, thank you for allowing❤ this wonderful and brave ❤❤Marine to share with us. God bless him. From an Army brat whose Daddy fought in two wars I'm so proud of this Marine❤
I got to meet Dakota at an Associated General Contractor’s lunch. The room was kind of quiet, not everyone was familiar with him. He gave his talk and took questions and the room was quiet so I asked if he still greases his own Bobcat. Then he related the story about being on Letterman and got a few more laughs since it was construction related. I brought a poster with first day of issue Marine Corps stamps and asked him to sign it. He’s so humble he signed it really small so as not to cover any of the other pictures even though he belongs shoulder to shoulder with those Marines.
From a fellow Marine grea job. I applaud your humble ness , I. Hope you succeed at everything you to do. Also they didn't give you the medal of Honor you earned it by saving your fellow Marines. Semper Fi.
Brings tears to my eyes. I lost my beloved brother several years ago. He was 30+ years in the army. He loved America and his men loved him. There was no room for the many that came to his funeral and big men cried. The Lord guided him through 2 wars. God please touch America and show us Your will.
14:01 If you want to see what post-traumatic stress looks like, this is it. He saved lives, but he lost brothers. As an Australian, all I can say is thank you for your service. Thank you, Dave, for the respectful way you spoke. Take every salute you get, and just remember-while it may be an honor for others to salute you, the true honor is yours. You’re saluting on behalf of your comrades in arms….
Good to hear you were treated kindly, sir. I was just old enough to have been in the first and last two draft "lotteries" (what a weird term, right?) and never got called, but I was trying in the meantime to sign on to the Navy and Coast Guard, uh....,no way. My oldest brother served in the USS Long Beach and Enterprise in Tonkin Gulf. My only claim to fame is that I wasn't going to claim 'CO', get fitted with braces, etc. nor run away to Canada. Big deal I know. And YES it was a shame the way returning Vets were treated or talked about by those of our own generation. Those were weird and unpleasant times, IMO. All the best.
Thank You For Your Service. LOVE 💖💝💞 TO EVERY Vietnam Veteran, Their Family's And All Who Love Them, THANK YOU For Your Service, Your Youth, Your Innocence, Your LOVE 💖💝💞 We Were Not Worthy Of You. 😪💝
He was so stiff when he first walked out, but then he was hilarious in the seat. Chatty and witty, until the 15:00 mark, when it turned really dark. Dave was slick, immediately changing the subject to something positive. Also, when a MoH recipient asks you to have a beer, you say yes, AND you buy the beer.
When he said "we'll leave it at that" Dave knew to steer that convo somewhere else immediately. He truly knows when to stop asking certain questions, and too many people today don't have that ability.
PTSD affects people a lot. The applause noise really got to him. He knew it would bug him but he went on TV because of the scholarships. That took a lot out of him.
@@Gump_Forrest_Gump If you weren't such a damned fine enlisted man I'd recommend you for officer training. Good call on the Hymn playing, I missed that context, but that all makes sense.
You are an amazing young man. My heart goes out to your men who fell that day and all you have to carry from it. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for you service
Sergeant Dakota Meyer, Sir, You, your Brothers In Arms, those who lived and those whose life's were taken, Thank You For Your Service. Warriors, Heroes, Angels. Healing Light, Prayers and LOVE.
talking about eyes, meyer's look in his eyes looks chaotic and stressed, like PTHD syndrome after such huge stress of the battle. im wondering if he didnt retire after that battle and if he still active as a marine.
I’ve always appreciated Mr. Dave Letterman. His recognition of our military personnel and the care and professionalism he gives makes me proud to be a part of our United States Marine Corps. I salute you Sgt Dakota Meyer for your dedication and professionalism. Semper Fi Marine Brother.
Fitting for Veterans Day. Dave always highlighted Real People, whether his staff, crew, store owners, folks on the street, or guests. He broke down the facade of celebrities and turned them into real people, too. Please share more of these!
As the niece of a USMC Korea and Vietnam combat vet, thank you for everything you do. My uncle passed away almost a year ago and was buried at Arlington. talking about his eyes - the look in his eyes is chaotic and stressed out. the way he looks around the room all the time, gives me the vibe that he is always in stress to look out for enemy because it was a 24/7 life out there far away from home. and ofc that battle where he acted as a hero must have had a huge effect on him in a bad way.

So much respect for this young man. His story is very much like stories in Vietnam. Like how did they know they were coming, why no air strokes and why did the artillery stop.
This is the type of interview we would like to see more, even if it is a celebrity. Ever track how much time is devoted to audience clapping for dumb comments and frankly just non-funny dialogue? This was great. Thanks!
Two commisioned officers that didn't send the air support desperately needed were given letters of reprimand that effectively ended their careers. Meyer said that he wasn't a hero,he is haunted that his friends were killed. He later worked for a defense company that dumped him when he spoke out against them selling advanced night optics equipment to Pakistan. The equipment was better than was used by the military at that time.
