I called the Ohio stable. They said I could buy or rent a bicycle but not a kayak for my cousin. We are trying to have my cousin get exercise as we have a 4 acre pond. And when she is home she sits around a lot because the lack of recreational equipment. However we don't have a bicycle path. It's as if people with disabilities are set in a low quality of life. Or else you get penalties or lost benefits.

But rent can be deducted from able. Shift more into able for other qualifying expenses and use your regular savings account for kayaking.
You can contribute yourself to Able. So you, yourself can contribute extra, to able, use that for rent, and use the ss money out of SS to pay for kayaking.
Check with an attorney. I'm not one.
      I'm not a professional.

How do I prove I transferred the $20,000 into checking to pay for a new roof anyhow??? The cards have a $5,000/day charge limit-how do I pay for my home maintenance with an ABLE??? I don't need a financial advisor. I am trying to save up to pay home maintenance out of pocket versus loans-does this mean an ABLE account cannot be used to save for expensive maintenance????

Andrea, I would talk to whomever your ABLE is with. Given the contribution limits ($17,000 in 2023) I'm not sure this is the best option. You may need to consider a Special Needs Trust. I would consult with an attorney.
