Reminds me of "Pee-wee Herman",I'm a loner, a rebel. I fly alone most of the time. Embarrassing moments don't happen when your alone, you can always edit the video. Clear Prop!
Yeah, I also fly alone 99% of the time. Communication is key and I also send live tracking to three people. We have a small group about 40 miles from me and very nice to fly with them from time to time.
GOOD CALL KYLO, I USED TO RIDE MOTORCYCLE AND END CRASH BAD AND THANKS TO COMMUNICATE WITH WIFE, I DO THE SAME BRO BEFORE TAKE OFF AND WHEN LANDING I CALL BACK HER AGAIN, AMAZING I LOVE MY THERAPY WITHOUT NEGATIVE COMMENT OR COMPARATIONS. FLY KYLO FLY
Dude I hear yah. That's for saying what I've said my entire experience of boardsports and skydiving. Its self assuring to hear someone with the same heart. I've always lived for the one and only. Put myself in situations as a learning experience. No one can save me but myself and my educated experience. Saving cash to visit asap for training. You da man!
Since I've trained, I've only flown alone... There just aren't many pilots around where I live and the ones that are around, are only "fair-weather" flyers - and we're still in winter. I actually love flying alone, as I can practice without any judgement from others - and it helps me focus on what I'm doing. I don't have any distractions, nor do I have any peer-pressure to do things that others are doing, that maybe I shouldn't be attempting (yet). I've only invited an audience once (my parents and son), and of course, after weeks of consistently nailing my forward launches, I blew 5 nil-wind launches in a row. Maybe I was stressed I had someone watching? Who knows... But yeah, I prefer flying alone at this point in time.
I haven’t flown alone. But I’d like to practice a few things, and I usually wait til Cathys off, & or we’re with the class. But I think your right - I learn a lot when I’m off to the side (by myself) kiting & just getting the feel of the glider. Now when I say off to the side, by myself. Someone’s usually (always) watching & is within earshot of me. Days like today - I wanna go practice, but usually don’t because no ones around. But I’m not launching off the mountain, or even planning on leaving the ground. So, grabbing my wing & See y’all about dark ,0)
Good video and excellent points. I’m about to pull the trigger on training, and for the months leading up to this, I’ve actually expected to be flying alone a majority of the time. I haven’t broken into the flying community local to me, though from what I’ve seen, there aren’t many around me into PPG. That kinda sucks, but at the same time, I’m okay with that. I mike the idea of wide communication at takeoff and landing and will likely utilize that. Wife and I have the “find my friends” app rolling on our phones, mostly because we live in the sticks and it helps us coordinate the house full of kids when we know when each other are near home, or driving by a store when we need something. It will also be used during my flights. If I end up in trouble, she’ll be able to know where I’m at.
You got it Mate :-) you got the PMA i was told about a long time ago, Positive Mental Attitude ! :-) Fly Alone folks, as it really focuses you're mind as you HAVE TO MAKE YOU'RE OWN DECISIONS !!! not relying on others around, or the deadly 'peer pressure' which makes you do stupid things to regret later :-(
Exactly what I was gonna say. Kinda expensive but a Garmin Inreach is probably a person's best bet for flying alone. Thanks for all you do for the sport Kyle and stay safe.
Good tips..... Common sense is your friend. Just like you did today can really make the difference when you are flying alone vs with others that may be more comfortable than you in different weather conditions. Chances are with weather like you had, I would have said nope and packed my things up and went home. But with a buddy that may be more experienced and goes up, that peer pressure can put you into some air that you really are not ready for. As always Kyle O..... Great Content!
I've gota few mates to come and do PG with me, and now I've gotten them plus other mates to go PPG with me in a month or so and im hanging to fly with them all! It's going to be awesome!!
Love being with others but also love being alone. Still early days in my flying journey but most of my flights have been alone. Great video and great advice :)
Taught myself and flew alone for a year before I hooked up with some great guys and primates here in central Fl.. Most important thing I discovered besides carrying a cell phone is to always check for emergency landing spots. Especially if you’re new and venturing out from your home base. Don’t be obsessed about it, but keep it in the back of your mind. Do you have enough altitude to glide to a safe spot if you have an engine out or bad weather sneaks up on you and you need to land, plan ahead and anticipate. Thumbs up for the video.
Couldn't agree more Kyle, I do the majority of my flying alone as well, as I wouldn't get in the air much otherwise. I think the level of comfort you might have as far as the need for communications is also a factor of how far from your LZ you go and how far a rescue it could be if you go down. I try to avoid those areas where it would be many miles to walk to reach cell service or a road, as self-rescue then could be a TOUGH job. Also fun flying with others as well, but I agree with the ground habits, it way hard when others are around and distracting. I just put o the helmet and DO MY THING.
I used to exclusively fly alone, but now that I have flying buddies at my field, it's a little less fun. However, I am weighing if I can get away with an epic cross country alone - because my wing is faster than most others... We'll see.
Another great video Kyle O some very good information, I’ve just been saying to a friend, your definitely my go to paramotor guy, because of the value of information 👌🪂
Great video; I have wondered about flying alone if it would be a good idea or not. Of course if you are a confident pilot might make a difference to someone if they are a newbie and not as confident about their abilities. I'll have to see how I feel once I have a few flights under my belt.
I fly alone quite a bit. I don't always carry my wallet, but I carry my phone, my drivers license, and a handwritten card that has the contact info for my wife, just in case I am not able to speak for myself.
Hello from England Kyle O! So you don't fly with a reserve all the time? I only have 5 flights in and there are very few people who fly round my neck of the woods to go flying with. The two things that worry me about flying alone is my lack of flights and not having a reserve at all; and I know these two things are easy to fix..as in splash the cash for a reserve (although I only get airborne in perfect weather) and biting the bullet and just getting airborne on my own without venturing too far from the obstacle free, safe location that I took off from. Its easier said than done though having confidence everything is just right!
You can't spend life waiting for people to join you in adventure - otherwise you might not have any or perhaps leave yourself unskilled to join others in theirs. ps. is the Kyle O school of paramotoring going to do merch as you are very fond of wearing other peoples? - Looking forward to seeing the Kyle O "is this good content?" T- shirt :)
The Garmin Connect App is free, but it will only work with a Garmin device. I use the Fenix 5X (watch). I also downloaded a paramotor app on to the Fenix 5X.
Use "Location Sharing" in Google Maps. If you go down in the woods, and don't show up when you are expected, the person who you are sharing with will be able to see your last location. I always share my location in Google Maps with my wife, and she knows I when I should be back. If I don't communicate when I should, she can see my last known location.
Where I am I dont have much Choice about flying alone I only have 1 guy to fly with and he always is making excuses or just driving around on his quad like a atv lol
Ahhh, that's the sound of Freedom there in North Louisiana! Means there's good people nearby ... unless your in a city ... a northern one in particular ... then, usually the opposite is true. 😁 I'm alone 98% of the time, so more than likely I'll be flying alone at least that much, if not more. My wife works long hours 30+ miles away, and I work alone here in the shop. None of my close friends fly, and they all live 30+ miles from here - I was alone in my aviation quest! I only know of 2-3 other guys that fly in this area. They all have powered parachutes - the larger version of a paramotor, I guess you could say. I met one of them when he brought me a lawn tractor to fix many years ago. He was telling me about it - told me he'd take me up for a flight. I got busy and lost touch with him for a while, until years later one of my other customers told him about my paramotor purchase, and then he came by with his flying buddy to check it out and shoot the crap for a bit. Back when I worked on his tractor, at that point in time, aviation wasn't on my radar like it is now. Flying was the farthest thing from my mind. Amazing what a 1080p video of a cockpit at 40k feet will do! Changed the whole course of my life. 😊
3:19 - BOOOOOMMMM! "Well that was a close shot"... "I guess they mining in the neighborhood".... :)
Reminds me of "Pee-wee Herman",I'm a loner, a rebel. I fly alone most of the time. Embarrassing moments don't happen when your alone, you can always edit the video. Clear Prop!
You, sir, are most definitely of the rare introvert breed.
I'm definitely flying alone! Everyone else in my area thinks I'm crazy for flying paramotors.
Mr O, you realize you make being hella smart and talented look annoyingly easy, right?!
It just had to be said. Keep flying!
Wilco!
"...hella smart and talented..." Always looks easy after doing the work. :)

Flying with people is a lot of fun but seems to me flying alone is more relaxing. Another great vid!
Will be out on my own this weekend for the first time and this is the message I needed

Prison Tape ugly!!!? oh my!
good input on solo flying, things to ponder while grounded

Flew alone for a solid 6 months before I found the local PPG community. Still fly alone but love company when it’s available!
I’ll fly with ya Kyle!!! Lol

Yes Kyle O today you have one thump down have no idea, as Tucker got some times a lot thump down too ?

By the way Kyle O. There is supposed to be a launch this Saturday at 09:15ish
Excellent advice...well put!!
When you soul search what do you do when you find it?
99% of my flights are alone. But I always have the Glympse let be tracking app running so the wife knows I'm ok.

When flying alone use Garmin Livetrack...just works!
IS it free?

Yay, I watched it (and gave a thumbs up, as always!) before the thumbs down guy did his/her thing! Keep up the great vids mate. Cheers 🍻
have a personal locator on you when you fly
This oddly corresponds to the texts I sent you a few days ago hahaha.
Yep!
Landed
one- is the lonliest number
Where I am I dont have much Choice about flying alone I only have 1 guy to fly with and he always is making excuses or just driving around on his quad like a atv lol
Most of the time I mean fly alone.
I think most ppl in this sport fly alone for the most part
That's definitely not true.
Not here,we have like 15 local pilots maybe more.
Then again we are near Tucker Valley 😁

Glad I'm not the only one with an ugly dog. Ugly dogs are the best.
