  • You guys chose this video.
I dont really have much to say. Its a #snapper #lawnmower from the 1960's. Seriously what do you want me to put here?
I cant even think of another tag so Im just gonna add #minecraft to it so some people searching for that may click on this and help me gain some ad revenue off this stupid video that shouldn't exist.
Next video will be car stuff.

when i'd back these off the truck and down the ramps those tubes at the back lowest point would hit the ground and jerk the thing to a stop, wake you up better than coffee. There was some missing asphalt in spots from the two locals that had these still into the 2010's. Learned so much about antiques from power equipment before ever owning an antique automoblile.

Having watched you a couple years now i appreciate the wisdom of your folks not letting you mow with it as a child.
My 73 Toro Whirlwind 25 is my favorite mower I've ever used, so i understand.
The Snapper is only dangerous if you're an idiot.

I wish I had my old wheel horse lawn tractor. I could put it in granny gear and hop off it go in the house and grab a beer and get back on it. It may have moved 10 feet in that short amount of time.

This is explains why the old guys wanted me as a kid to mow. Bike handle bars... lever throttles.. no safety switches. They wanted me for my straight lines so their boss wouldnt find out they'd been drinking since 8am. The thing is running and it looks like fun! It's amazing how serviceable tools can keep working. Enjoyed your off brand video,

Man this takes me back. Way back before we had them color movie picture boxes.. I remember it like yesterday. Believe was sometime around 1994 to be precise... 😂
My best friend Paul and I went to an estate sale at our neighbors and found a John deere riding mower, believe it was a model 80? Electric riding mower. Ran 36 volts on 3 deep cycle marine batteries. Wooo boy, that was the best $100 we EVER spent.. And also, probably the dumbest idea ever. Y'all know where this is going.... The thing was fun, would run for about two hours on a full charge, but damn was it slow. Being the backyard engineer I always was, got to looking at the drive system a little closer. The three speed gearbox had about a 9 inch pulley, while the motor had about a 1.5 inch pulley. Let's reverse them and see what happens! Hooooly shit was that a wheelie machine, and somehow it'd do damn near 30mph. Next we found a little yard trailer, so one of us could drive and the other could ride in the trailer. McDonald's drive through, here we come!!!
The worst trouble we got into was when the city was resurfacing the street, putting in sidewalks and curbs. There was this tiny mud hole, and we decided to do some bogging. Man my parents neighbor was NEXT LEVEL pissed about that! The second worst... We'd toodle up the street in the grass right next to the road.. Well, up ahead was an evergreen tree that was growing right next to a privacy fence, and the branches extended into the easement we used as our road. I'm not gonna let that stop us! So I kept going... That tree ended up scraping me off the mower completely, snagged the steering wheel and turned the mower hard right..... Right THROUGH this 6 foot tall privacy fence and just kept right on going. Surprised I'm not still paying that repair bill off today... 😂😂😂
Best fun of my life. What I'd give to have that mower still today.. Never once did we actually cut any grass with it.
Edit: it was the John Deere Electric 90

That mower's safety isn't anything compared to the home-made riding lawnmower my grandfather made. It was made of wood, turned on a dime and had a 8HP horizontal shaft Briggs hanging off the back of it, and a mower deck out front off of some other riding mower from the 60's. It was called the crazy mower, and he built two of them. My cousin has the second one, and it's still operational. People would stop in the middle of the street to see either my dad, uncle or grandfather mowing the lawn with it, and it would throw your ass off and run you over no problem if you didn't know what you're doing with it.

As some one who worked on these types of machines, Kohler hard failed on the easy spin thing for a few generations of motors. The lash on the valves would constantly go out of spec and you'd have it spin til it hit that ramp but come to a stop. My father had an old school style shop so doing these and old push mowers was great. There were some push mowers with no operator presence controls either, you'd step one foot on them and pull the cord from the motor straight upwards. You probably don't have much to do with snow blowers down there, it was our winter bread and butter up here in Massachusetts. Checkout something called a lovejoy clutch, also ancient tech. We had some giant snow blowers that could rip your arm out the socket when backfiring, chain saws are also super fun, some of the stuff we worked on for tree companies were the equivalent of a 125 cc dirt bike in the palm of your hand. Power equipment is awesome and especially the antique stuff.

I think Snappers were really a premium lawnmower back in the day, as I recall. I used to use my grandfather's Snapper back in the 70's and it was built like a tank compared to the no name ones (he worked in a garden shop so I got to play with a bunch).

The problem with those old Snapper riders is the track. It's not wide enough to be stable. In the early 70's my grandparents in Estill Springs Tenn. got a used Snapper. Which i proceeded to roll 2 complete rolls down the steep embankment that was their yard. I landd in the street, upside down, blade spinning furiously & gas pouring everywhere.

I bought one of those used and kept it for almost thirty years until it finally fell apart. I figured I would buy another one, so I went online and ordered one. What a colossal piece of crap. I had that thing repaired 4 times in eight years, the worst part being it started acting up as soon as it was out of warranty. It cuts well and the 13.5 hp motor runs strong but the drive system isn't worth two cents. Right now, it will only go in reverse, and I refuse to have it repaired again. Apparently, it was so bad it was discontinued. I put up an ad and the photos I took look great, it appears brand new, but I listed it as "for parts only" because I don't want to screw over someone. I just bought a John Deere lawn tractor and I'm pretty sure I'll have better luck than that snapper.

Hey brother! /G\ is there any Masonic lineage involved with said lawnmower? Shriner Parades? Always dug these old Snappers. My family used to go up to this cottage up North and the family that ran it, the grandson had to cut the lawn on the property with one of these and I always thought it was so cool and would bug him and try to get convince to let me drive it
