  • 11 killer whales beached themselves in Uyeasound in Shetland back in December 1994. Apart from one which sadly died, the rest were successfully rescued and helped back to sea by a few hardy locals.
It is unclear who originally filmed this footage, so if you are the copyright holder please get in touch.

A young female died. I wonder if she was sick and came to shore which in turn brought her whole pod to beach themselves trying to help her? Family is everything to them. I've seen footage of a beached orca with its pod waiting hours and hours just deep enough for them to swim. Even calling to one another and bite marks on the beached orca where the others have tried to pull him back into the deep.

They are remarkable. I dream that any place that keeps them imprisoned for entertainment purposes can see the torture they are inflicting on these intelligent beautiful creatures and cease this continuing. They need to be with their families

@@erinholden6621 the only thing they see is $$$$. Esoecially in poor countries like spain and the likes. Do you know the story of Morgan. The captured wild orca. Caught to help her? They sold her off and now she lives in a little pool miserable and alone. She has bit her teeth on concrete and broke them. Its bloody criminal. Look it up. I am morgan.😓😢

@@bari2883 yes yes I've seen it. It's heartbreaking. There is this great New Zealand biologist, Ingrid Visser whose work with these magnificent beauties I follow. Among other endeavors, she's been working hard to get people to see the truth about how bad Morgan has it. Her tank I believe is only 35 ft long when regulation says its supposed to be minimum 48 ft. Also Loro Parque refutes that Morgan is still being attacked by the other orca but she has bites and rake marks on her. ...I mean it goes on and on doesn't it ? Being ripped from their families, malnourished, drugged, etc 😭😱 they belong in the ocean
Always happy to know there's another orca lover out there. I love all animals, just find myself mildly obsessed with orcas
      Thanks for the response 👍

@@erinholden6621 I know of ingred she is wonderful in her efforts to educate the public about orcas. I hope there is something we can do to put a stop to their captivity. A sanctuary would be an idea.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Orcas will do that. They'll try to help their family member and unfortunately end up beaching themselves.
Thanks to all these people for helping them 💕

I can't help but feel the contact we have with Orca's is getting stronger the more we interact.
These Animals are highly intelligent, and as we see, they know we are there to help
When we see Sharks and other sea life coming to us for help. I think we are seeing evolution first hand
Orca's as far as we know has never attacked humans in the wild only when they are imprisoned in sea world and alike.
Again as Humans we miss the biggest things right in front of us.

      Agreed!
Cetaceans' brains are larger (as a percentage of body weight) and more developed than ours. The fact that they don't have hands OR fire makes us believe they aren't as "smart" as humans. I believe dolphins and whales are the thinkers of the world, while we're the makers.
For intelligent species to survive and thrive we'll need to work together... and stop dumping our trash and poisons into the oceans. Cetaceans have much to teach us if we'll just learn to listen and communicate with them. And the first thing we must do is stop killing them!

Because they are from the dolphin family.

One might argue though, that different Orca "tribes" have specific prey for which they have developed hunting methods that are passed from generation to generation. They won't hunt anything else. For instance, some Orca are known to hunt a certain kind of salmon but completely ignore a very similar one. We just may not be on the menu for that reason. ;)

Why were they beached? Could it be that the one that died was sick and dying? Maybe the others just chose to stay with the sick one until it died?

If you look at that dead killer whale, the pectoral fins were extremely tiny for its size. I think it was deformed but still a good size. So sad, such beautiful creatures

Different videos of people from different countries helping Orcas, this show how world wide spread they are, and maybe this is why they are friendly towards us ? They have big brains good memory, it could be the reason ?

Tobad man has disrespect these beautiful orca's to the point they are now attacking boats and destroying rudder's to handicap the boat's and we all know they are intelligent and don't forget so if they are doing this it's for a good reason as they never was aggressive towards boats before. Sadly fishing boats are all but cleaning out the tuna leaving the one's that do survive off fish starving and not able to care for the babies, they started to steal fish off the lines then of course good ole man started tossing dynamite and harpooning them! Today orca's are endangered because of man there isn't many left and even though it's not allowed big fishing in boats still kill them to keep them away from their catch. Now I wonder if orca's will be friendly to humans in the water any more? So far they just disable boat's as many as 30 in pods and we all know if they really wanted to sink a small fishing boat they could easily.
