Everyone that does it in America acts like they're saying stuff from a script. Bring some energy and personality to the characters like us from Australia. Make them yours. I was Zeke during our HSM this year and was applauded for the fact that I made every scene I was in my own. Own the scene, own the character and own the stage. Then maybe all these American versions won't look so cringey to watch. And maybe get some people that can actually sing.
Mitchell Hansen are you serious? First off, these are kids from grades 6-8, ages 12-14. If you expect them to be professional actors, you really need to put things into perspective. Secondly, are you really gonna bring ethnicity into the mix? That alone makes me wanna vomit spontaneously. Where you’re from doesn’t define your ability. If you look in the right places, you could probably find shows from America that blow yours out of the water. Third, I really want to know how you found this, and even more so what made you so inclined to leave this comment. It’s just a middle school performance. You can’t judge it like a professional show. You can ask to ‘get people who can sing’ when you don’t even know what the talent pool was at the schools who participated all you want, won’t change anything. Your comment is rude to these kids who did their absolute best, and is also just flawed on its own.
Its always the American Productions of musicals that seem to be bad in the amateur theatre world! Im also Australian and we definitely play better than people who dont need to put on an accent.
