The Fewness of the Saved

  • First Sunday of Lent.. During Lent, the spiritual battle is clearly meant to be more intense. Contemplate thy own mortality in the light of truth. Each will die and be judged - and there are only two eternal possibilities. For more please visit svfonline.org/ & remember to say 3 Hail Marys for the priest

Lord, I confess that up until now i have not lived as a Christian. I am not worthy to be numbered among Your elect. I recognise that I deserve to be damned, but Your mercy is great, and full of confidence in You grace, I say to You that i want to save my soul, even if i have to sacrifice my fortune, my honour, my very life, as long as i am saved. If i have been unfaithful up to now, i repent, i deplore, i detest my infidelity. I ask You humbly to forgive me for it. Forgive me good Jesus and strengthen me also that i may be saved. I ask You not for wealth, honour or prosperity, i ask You for one thing only, to save my soul.

I hope you are listening to the Catechism in a Year and Bible in a Year by Father Mike Schmitz ... God has already provided you with great graces to express yourself so eloquently and to have the insight to be honest with yourself and Him ... Take heart ! Now the work comes and with the struggle that we feeble weak humans grasp onto His graces to aid us each in our sacrifices to learn what it is to be holy and then strive for it with fear and trembling for our sake and the sake of the body of Christ . Don't ever let anyone make you believe they have it all together .... 99 percent do not and being sincere in your attempts ... not successes ... but constant attempts in turning away from that sin is the key to his Kingdom. Be assured of my heart felt prayers for your conversion and salvation .... and one more thing .... a quote from a prayer uttered by a doctor of our church before his full repentance that I think you need to read "Give me chastity and continence, but not yet." - Saint Augustine .... It's never too late to be the prodigal, but don't leave it too long because God does the majority of the heavy lifting but you have to prove your desire to unite yourself to Him ❤‍🔥 God Love you ❤‍🔥

It is a great prayer but it would be better said to a priest who through Christ has the power to forgive sins and bring him back into a state of grace. Leaving a comment does nothing for his soul.

Daniel: you are wrong. Once church appropriately decides on something, God approves. That is the benevolent agreement by Him because He loved His church so much. Since even a best mystic can’t glean perfectly God’s instructions, God does what is easier (and helpful for us): He simply run the world and everything else appropriately without contradicting His church.

"Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination." - Blessed Virgin Mary
When you pray the rosary for your intention, ask God for the graces of your complete conversion, sanctification and your salvation. Ask also for the grace of perfect self-knowledge, the grace of perfect contrition, the grace of perfect detachment, the grace to accomplish only God's will because Jesus said only those who did God's will will be saved (Matthew 7:21) and THE GRACE OF FINAL PERSEVERANCE because St. Jerome said many begin well but few persevere.
"But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved." - Matthew 24:13

ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II: “God loves us not because we have merited it or are worthy of it; rather, God’s love for us is freely given and unearned, surpassing all we could ever hope for or imagine.
There is no one who cannot discover and find a place in God’s love. From it flows our Christian hope. There exists no one so bad, so brought down, so broken down, that he cannot find a place in that love.”

Even if in a state of grace, one should still fear and tremble before God and the punishment of hell. The worst thing you could do is to believe that you’re in God’s favor when in reality you truly are not.

No one knows exactly what will happen until one passes over, but praying the daily rosary, repenting and turning away from sin will give you a fighting chance

How is this for Biblically founded? "And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Mt 16, 18
First pope: St. Peter 1 April 33
      - 29 June 67
      (34 years, 89 days)
      Second Pope:St. Linus
      29 June 67
      - 23 September 76
      (9 years, 86 days)
      Third Pope: St Anacletus
      23 September 76
      - 26 April 88
      Fourth Pope: St Clement I
      26 April 88
      - 23 November 99
      Fifth Pope: St Evaristus
      23 November 99
      - 27 October 107
      ......
      Now check this out:
      Seventeenth Pope: St Damasus I
      1 October 366
      - 11 December 384
Presides over the Council of Rome in 382, which sets down the canon of the Bible, telling you which book is right so you don't stumble on the false Gospels.
And then you take that exact same Bible (plus/minus what Luther dropped) that he and other Catholics at the time lead by Holy Spirit gave everybody, and here you go today saying it is not Biblical?
Heresy is that great moment when you greater spiritual insight than the fathers, doctors and saints who compiled the books and gave it to you. Noone chalenged the papacy until Luther (if we take stubborn Orthodox out of the picture. But they challenge it from a diffferent angle).
So what you are basically saying is God allowed everybody to have it wrong until Luther.
I too beg you to consider coming to One True Church established by Christ in year 33.

I need to be scared every now and then. I usually ponder the Last Four Things since it is the basis of my life. Also, I'm getting closer to death every day and I feel like I'm making up for lost time. I pray 3 Mysteries of the Rosary every day in reparation for all my sins and I pray for the knowledge of how the devil is tempting me now. The more I grow spiritually, the sneakier he gets. Truly a snake in the grass.

I think God shows man more mercy and is more concerned with saving rather than losing souls then this would lead one to believe. He gives different graces and knowledge to different people. He gave us Divine Mercy which is what lead me to studying the Catholic faith and praying the rosary. Most of my family and many friends are protestants who know what they were raised in. And one must admit, the Catholic church is not without it's problems right now so that makes it hard to convince people that it's the Holy Mother Church. They are on little life boats tethered to it but their boats don't have the same strength and ability to survive the storms and so they splinter and break apart and keep dividing. Instead of calling them condemned, which we do not know that for all things are possible with God, we need to pray, do penance and sacrifice for them. Others can be saved because of our prayers. We don't know what graces God will give a soul at the point of death, what illumination and some of that might come as a result of our prayers. Meanwhile, I hope everyone is wearing the Brown Scapular of Mt. Carmel.

The ‘problems’ are willed by God, perhaps for using our talents to seek Him ‘as God‘, that is as our first priority. Then only can we discern the subtleness yet the profoundness of the true faith from all worldly religions of devils. Our discovery of the only way to break the shackles of devils and be in His church is an effective acknowledgement that God deserve such a huge adoration.

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH (1058): “The Church prays that no one shall be lost: “Lord, let me never be parted from you.” If it is true that no one can save himself, it is also true that God “desires all men to be saved” (1Tim 2:4), and that for him “all things are possible” (Mt 19:26).

THIS IS SO FRIGHTENING! These are the means to attain salvation. They r consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary, going to confession and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist regularly, visiting Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament frequently, devotion to or praying a rosary or many rosaries everyday devoutly asking for the graces of our conversion and salvation. These r the most imporatant graces we should ask when praying the rosary, when receiving the sacraments (we must make a good confession or dont hide willfully many or even one mortal sin in the confession because many are damned by deliberately concealing their one or more mortal sins in the confession, thus making their confession invalid and sacrilegious) when visiting Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. They r perfect contrition for our sins (I understand many are damned because they dont have this grace for their hearts have been hardened by habitual sins), the virtue of humility (when we have this virtue, all the others virtues will be given to us as well or they will follow and when humility is lost in us, all other virtues that we have will also disappear from us little by little), confidence in God's Mercy, the virtue of hope ( St. Therese said that we receive God's grace in proportion to the level of our confidence and hope in God's Mercy. If we have a great hope and confidence in His Mercy, we will receive great graces as well for the good of our souls), the grace to conquer all our vices or bad habits, the practice of mortification/self-denial (every denial will put us higher and higher in the order of grace), the grace to bear our crosses patiently and for the love of God and for the salvation of our souls, the graces of perfect detachment and final perseverance and the grace to do God's will perfectly in our life (we must desire nothing in this world but to do only God's will thats why we need to ask for the grace of perfect detachment of heart because Jesus said only those who do God's will will enter God's kingdom) and above all, we must ask for the grace of PURE LOVE FOR GOD, i.e., to do things or His will only with no other motive than that of pleasing God alone. If we have a pure intention and a pure love for God, WE ARE SURE OF GOING TO HEAVEN and we will be able to help many others save their souls too. St. Therese had been (and still is) able to save many souls by just doing very simple and ordinary things but with great pure love for God. Let's ask always God to fill our hearts with great pure love for Him. I want to save many souls too thats why I am not satisfied with just loving God purely. I want to love God greatly and purely just like St. Therese did!
"If you want to become a saint, it is easy. Aim only at pleasing Jesus." - St. Therese of Lisieux

Prayers for those in purgatory is something that can only help those who die in faith, non-catholic Christians can attain salvation but without sacraments, it is very, very hard. ahhh... now you show your true colors, Mr Protestant. I never said hell. I said "sorry, too late". We Catholics pray every mass for our Catholic dead, family, friends and parishioners. But we do not pray for NON-CATHOLICS. So when someone asks me to pray for a dead non-Catholic I say sorry to late. We can pray for the sick but not for the dead. No logical error, that is canon law.

@@Edward-jq2fc THIS is why we cannot advance as a collective: Teams. Team Catholic over team Protestant. Team Orthodox over Team Catholic? If this got a rise out of you, you are judging, trapped in a narrative and will pay for it with your soul. Finding merit only in your faith and judging all others is a recipe for disgrace in the eyes of God. If you really think that if Jesus came back he would say that Catholics were the ONLY Christians to get it right you are beyond delusion, especially when the Catholic hierarchy is so corrupted and in tatters. BTW, if you're Catholic but you're a dick, God won't give you a free pass, Edward.

Our prayers, our sacrifices and our sufferings offered up, in union with Jesus's life, is powerful for conversion of sinners and salvation of souls. And of course we grow in grace too.

There are millions of people all over the world who are saved, most who come from other churches than the RCC. Remember, the first church on the day of pentecost was all Jewish (Acts chapter 2). Many who were there that day were Jewish converts (proselytes) from different countries under Roman rule.

He spoke the Truth.. so much so that the Pope, the King of France and many leaders of European society came to hear his words, and examine their life and live holier ones. So too many protestants returned to the true Church = Catholic, they par took of the sacraments and Holy Mass, because he clearly showed from scripture and the doctors of the Church that so few are saved.

Latin Mass Choir Jesus Christ is the exclusive door that leads to an eternity in heaven. Acts 4:12 says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” If we choose to reject God’s Son, we do not meet the requirements for salvation (John 3:16, 18, 36).

That's exactly right Margarita, spot-on, but so few people take that responsibility, of living the COMPLETE way Christ, seriously! They won't be saved, be it a) they are wilfully outside His one holy Catholic Church, b) those in it = Catholics don't take up their cross and follow Him in EVERYTHING they do (I'm afraid that's my failing) c) they worship money, sex, modernity and materialism instead of God for He said "you can't serve two masters", and d) they have a non existent prayer, devotional, fasting life. Ipso facto, most people damn themselves to Hell.

The problem is there are few who daily pray these powerful devotional prayers. We will be asked by our Lord why we didn't use the weapons to battle evil. I truly believe praying the rosary and divine mercy chaplet will keep one out of mortal sin which is the death of a soul.

First off great sermon but I'm skeptical about the visions. Due to other traditions that the souls in heaven are to replace the 1/3 of angels that fell. If there are already a great multitude of guardian angels unique to each person, then mathematically more than 0.01% of people are saved. Otherwise the known amount of angels in heaven would be increasing more than the amount replaced.
Someone else also pointed out that infant mortality was high during these times. Out of 33,000 there would likely be more baptized babies. Perhaps it's was only adults that were seen judged?

Believing that it is as good as doctrinally certain that few will be saved lends nothing to our mission to work with God for the salvation of souls here on Earth, engenders a superiority complex among the few who believe they probably are likely to be saved (as opposed to all of those who are radical Protestants and apostate atheists), and equally and oppositely engenders disdain for those people who it is your mission to offer salvation.
I do not bother about the certainty of how many will be saved or will be lost for those reasons (except that universalism reverses the last two; universalists, who are also wrong, loathe cruel Christians who believe in Hell and complacently assume God's mercy will save all those outside of the Church).
I think the best position in soteriology is to leave the act and the result of salvation in the hands of God, while giving yourself wholly to be His instrument in the process. In the end, all that matters is that you at least tried to bring people to Salvation, for "God desires the salvation of all men"; don't let your complacency or your despair be the reason they are not.

And common sense kicks in, when you look around and see what people are involved in. However, God has to choose us and we have to choose him. It's all in our free will! Thus, there is no need for a superiority complex, we are all sinners.

The point is to do all that Jesus Christ requires of us. Keep the commandments, the works of Mercy, love your neighbor, pray everyday. Suffer patiently. Detach from all worldly things. Fear of God is only just. He is omnipotent, we are dust. Remember that He is both just and merciful. Despairing will not help; it’s a sin. Just don’t be complacent or presumptuous. Love God because He is the source of all good. Trust in Him like a child trusts his father. That’s it. Look at how Saint Therese of Liseux lived. Follow her simple, little way. Sainthood is possible.

If we believe in our Savior and accept His salvation we are saved ... Jesus paid for it all (john 3:16) ... it does not depend on our works ... it only depend on our faith ... so that no one shall boost (Eph 2:8-9) ... and that's the truth ...

Are you going to Heaven? How righteous are you really? How righteous are "the few"?
The Holy Bible says “ As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). Again, God’s word says “ But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags…” (Isaiah 64:6).
In other words you are not righteous enough for Heaven. Your own good works will not get you to Heaven. Your church, baptism, priest/pastor, etc. cannot get you to Heaven.
What will get you to Heaven? Only the righteousness that we receive by the Lord Jesus Christ and faith in his shed blood alone.
The Holy Bible says “For he [God the Father] hath made him [God the Son, Jesus Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Again, God’s word says “ But he [Jesus Christ] was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
Christians are justified (having all their sins forgiven and having the very righteous of Christ given to us) solely by faith (complete trust) in the Lord Jesus Christ.
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” - Romans 5:1
Admit that you are a lost sinner headed for Hell
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
Call upon the name of the Lord and thou shalt be saved
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." - Romans 5:8-9
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." - Romans 10:9
"[Jesus Christ] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace" - Ephesians 1:7
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9

Sorry to sound so harsh against this Christian belief system but it all seems so nonsensical to me and am not trying to bash people’s beliefs but one of the main arguments I have against Christianity is on the subject of predestination (or conditional election ) and hell as eternal conscious torment for the damned - now
if both these ideas are true then it seems like being saved and being one of the predestined elect is like the chance of winning the lottery as only a few will be saved (Mathew 7:13-14) so for the vast majority of people they will have to face up to the fact of eternal conscious suffering forever unless they truly believe from the heart (Romans 10:9-11) and live a truly pious Christian life, so even though Christ offers a free gift it’s only in a few peoples nature to truly accept it as god expects so he has raised the bar soo high so most wont be able to - this has to be surely the case if god has predestined things and only a few are going to be saved - hence the reason why most wont make it and isn’t It’s gods responsibility for all this seen as how he effectively predestined most to hell (Ephesians 1:4-6 , Romans’ 9:22 and loads of other verses that support predestination ) and this choosing of the elect was before he even created people (or before the foundations of the world as it mentions in the verse) . And for those who try to be Christian who aren’t the elect then they will be rejected - maybe the verse applies to those - depart from me as I never knew you (Mathew 7:21-23) . But let’s say you don’t believe in predestination but that we have complete freewill to chose , even though this would conflict with the verses in the bible that seem to suggest conditional election and even though I personally don’t believe in complete freewill as I believe we are the product of our experiences which surely dictates what we think feel and believe in anyway ? I mean isn’t someone who is from a loving but strict Christian family a lot more likely to believe and be saved rather than someone who didn’t have a family or a bad one that was an orphan raised in the bronx ? But even if you still believe we have complete freewill to choose god or not and there is no predestination then don’t you think it’s still gods responsibility in the first place for allowing free agents to exist knowing in advance that only a few of them will be saved but still creates them and allows them to have the freedom to rebel against him if they so choose to ? - it’s Kind of like putting the cat amongst the pigeons so as to speak - and if you believe in eternal conscious torment then god creates that as well for them so rather than just letting them die and not receive eternal life which in itself is infinitely bad enough punishment just for a lifetime of sinning (and some live much shorter lives than others) but instead he makes them suffer eternal conscious punishment forever without any chance of parole . So effectively god created the vast majority to suffer if you believe in predestination . And am sure there are some morally better non Christians than Christians out there but because they don’t fully believe with the heart are they then going to go to hell ? Is it any fault of there’s if they don’t truly believe fully with the heart especially this day and age what with all the other religions that we now know exists and the knowledge of science about the world contradicting with some of what is taught in the bible eg on evolution and the order with which creation happened . Even the individual Christian denominations don’t agree with each other and what with all the wars and misery that religions have caused over the centuries and add to this the fact that the biblical god leaves no direct evidence he exists over any other religion other than that what was written in an ancient book thousands of years ago by an ancient tribal people . And why no revelation ? Why is it fair and necessary that people have to believe without doubt (ie from the heart) to be saved when he guves no revelation or direct evidence he exists ? Why can’t god/Jesus appear to everyone and emit his loving and radiant warmth and light to people as am sure most would then turn to him and be saved but instead he hides away and judges everyone for not believing and doing his will at the end of the world . Jesus supposedly appeared to saint Paul and he believed and went on to become one of the major followers and spread the gospel over wide areas whereas before hand he was completely opposed to Christ even killing a lot of his followers ? And am sure if god is all powerful he would find a way to convince everyone he exists . But no he would rather hide away . So if he appeared to Paul and he believed then why not the rest of mankind and so thus clear all this confusion up in the world ? And what about those lucky few who will be saved and be in this heavenly place with god - but will they be fully happy knowing that some of there loved ones are suffering somewhere else and will be for eternity just so that god can uphold his egotistical idea of righteousness and justify leaving the unsaved in that state for ever ? Especially when he created them for that exact purpose if predestination is true .
Even if we suppose , and am making a stretch here , that god didn’t decide to use his foreknowledge or completely didn’t know in advance what people would decide to do - well this wouldn’t really make sense as there are objections to this 1) Verses like Ephesians mentions he did know before he created the world who he would save and 2) if god didn’t know the outcome it would mean he isn’t all powerful and 3) it would still be unjust and irresponsible and not in line with the idea of a god of love to create creatures knowing that they could possibly end up in hell and to take that risk anyway and create them and what’s even more unfair is that he actually creates hell for them as well so he can justify his egotistical idea of righteousness ie that people have to be punished eternally for offending him when he infact created them with the potential to actually do this.
Now some Christians will say to the above ‘well it’s upto god , he can do whatever he likes, who are you to question his will ? ‘ - well I would say to that that if this god created us and supposedly loves everyone and created us with moral standards to be able to judge between right and wrong and wants us to understand him and come to him and wants us to worship and glorify him then allowing conditional election and hell to exist doesn’t seem like that’s the act of a loving god to me neither to many others . If he wanted to create beings who would love him then why create the world in this way so that in order for this to happen the consequences is that a relative small number of his creation would actually truly live him and be with him and the rest would suffer in hell which he himself created for them that didn’t .
Either way , wether we have freewill or not , the Christian God is not a god I’d really want to believe in right now but am honestly open minded and am on a journey of discovery like we all are . I would like to understand and know god but things like what I mentioned above just don’t make any sense to me .
So Is predestination correct ? What do you all think ? I’d be honestly interested in what people think on here especially if they can show me otherwise - go on , humour be lol 😝. Sorry to sound so harsh against this belief system but a lot of it seems so nonsensical to me .

listen again, there is a great deal of hope in the sermon. It is a call to conversion. If most go to hell it is only because they will not change their lives. Missions etc are the to spread the gospel as Jesus asked us to. To call the people to a new life in Christ. Don't misunderstand the message. This is your and my call to conversion. let's do it and share the message so that those we live may also hear once again Jesus words..Your sins are forgiven......Go and sin no more

The evidence from the New Testament simply does not support the existence of purgatory. In fact, the Biblical doctrine of Salvation eliminates the need for purgatory:
Our Salvation Isn’t Based On Our Good Works
According to the Biblical doctrine of Salvation, forgiveness is not based on the good works of the believer. For this reason, deeds or works perform
ed for those in purgatory are both unnecessary and ineffectual:
    Romans 3:21-24, 27-28
But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus… Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.
    Romans 8:1
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.
Our Salvation Is Based On Jesus’ Work on the Cross
According to the Biblical doctrine of Salvation, Jesus’ work on the cross (His blood) purifies us from all sin. For this reason, there isn’t a lingering sin problem requiring the existence of a place like purgatory:
    Titus 2:13-14
…we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
    1John 1:7b
…the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
    1John 1:9b
…he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
    1John 2:2
He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
    Hebrews 10:14
…because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
Our Salvation Has, Therefore, Already Been Guaranteed
According to the Biblical doctrine of Salvation, Jesus has already purified and purged believers of sin based on our faith in Him. For this reason, there is no need for a place like Purgatory where additional purging must be performed:
    1 Corinthians 6:11
But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
    Hebrews 1:3
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high
The Biblical doctrine of Salvation clearly eliminates the need for purgatory. In addition to this, the Biblical doctrine of Heaven eliminates the possibility of purgatory:
    Our Reunion Is “Wrathless”
According to the Biblical doctrine of Heaven, believers will not be subjected to the continuing wrath of God; they have been justified in spite of their sinfulness. For this reason, we do not believe God’s wrath or condemnation needs to be addressed in a place like purgatory:
    Romans 5:9
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
    John 5:24
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life”.
    Our Reunion is Immediate
According to the Biblical doctrine of Heaven, believers are united with God in Heaven the moment they die. For this reason, the existence of purgatory is simply inconsistent with the nature of Heaven as it is described in the Bible:
    2 Corinthians 5:6-8
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
    Philippians 1:20-23
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far.
    Luke 23:39-43
One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”
The Bible tells us with certainty we cannot earn our salvation with good works because Jesus’ death on the cross paid for all our sin. Jesus purged us from our impurity, and He doesn’t need any additional help from us. When we are united with God, we will not suffer God’s wrath if we have accepted the free gift of Salvation through Christ; we will join God the moment we die, and the finishing work of Jesus will be more than sufficient to guarantee our place at the table.

tamitha20 nice copy and paste job. Christ said something about persevering to the end, keeping His commandments, loving (a work) our neighbor, eating (a work) his flesh, believing (a work) etc etc. St. Paul is condemning the old law works with had 613 of them. Context. Everything in the NT speaks of being judged on our works. Rom 2 is still part of the scriptures no matter what protestant ‘pastor’ or website says.
