Hello Sir. Why is there written 8 Bay, I see 9 bays. Is 1 bay not functioning?

Thank you for covering DAS units. As a professional photographer having access to my older Lightroom Catalogs is needed. Its looking like I will need to replace my Drobo at some point and looking for something in the 5 bay size.

Honestly, the aspect of this video that most surprised me is the fact that Drobo is apparently still in business? (I haven’t heard their name mentioned within the techiverse in years.)

I am looking for a Drobo5D replacement. As Drobo didn’t move on from KEXT for MacOS and Apple gave everyone plenty of time to change I need a replacement. They have put a message on their website it won’t be supported in MacOS Ventura. The question is, shall I go Synology 1522+, but these videos have come at a great time for me

Excellent introduction. I'm running a ThunderBay Flex 8 and would have given this unit serious consideration if it were available at the time. I'd be eager to see a performance comparison between hardware vs software RAID on those two devices with SoftRAID running on a high-end system.

I would also love to see a comparison between a comparable OWC DAS and this unit.

I was looking at upgrading from 2 Thunderbay drives to that Flex 8… would also love to see a side by side comparison :-)

I’m looking at one of these to migrate from a couple drobos for my Plex server. Been trying to compare different QNAP, Synology, and Terra devices.

I wish they would make these just for 2.5" SSD's as thats all i want to use it for - and thus its huge overkill..

    Hi excellent video!
Where did you source yours from?
    I can only find imports.
    Cheers

Oh, the lack of hard drive flexibility is a deal breaker for me, boo

How about RAID NAS thunderbolt 4 Storage? All my laptops and Desktop workstations support Native Thunderbolt 4 and I run Dell UP3218K (8K) monitors through the Native Thunderbolt 4. So where is the update on why or why not wait for Thunderbolt 4 RAID NAS devices?

Hello! Thank you for your video! I just bought one of these and I’m curious: I cannot find the online raid expansion utility you mention on the video… also, when tried to migrate/upgrade from RAID 5 - 4 to 5 discs (on MAC) - it just crashes and stop working

Thank you for such fantastic and educative videos.I wonder if you can help me in 2 questions:
    1. What's the difference between those 2 DAS: D8-332 Thunderbolt 3 RAID 8 AND the TerraMaster F8-422 (The White tower ONE)
    2. Usina one of Terramaster's DAS... does Backblaze (personal backup account) will be able to backup , let's say, a RAID 5 configuration?
    Thanks

I would like to see you review softraid from OWC. It would work with the DAS systems setup as jbod. It seems really nice and I’m curious what you would think

I've never had a RAID system, but have been looking into it for a long time. I was holding out for Drobo to come back. But after almost filling up a new 2 TB internal hard drive very quickly, I need to act faster on a RAID system. I'm thinking about getting the other DAS 8-bay Terramaster though because it can use RAID 6, which I think I want for a little more peace of mind. I'm so glad I came across your TH-cam channel! Like you say, I want to get it right the first time! Thanks so much for this video!

Thanks a lot! It makes me "sad" that TB3 is only 2m max for cables (6ft? - I know only metric measures 🙂). If you are on a Mac + Apple Display (TB3 only as well), this means the DAS has to be nearby. Noise....
If you have the chance to compare a DAS like this to a NAS with 10Gbit (or even 25GBit) in a real world scenario, that would be really helpful. Like how an appplication performs with these kind of storage solutions. I am happy to loose 20% performance, if the HDDs are in another room and are not able to drive me mad. On paper, it is four times the bandwith, but what is the impact in a real world scenario?
If you did it in the past: Sorry, it is a lot of stuff to watch and I am a "channel newbie". Still learning what to look for...

I purchased a 4.5m TB3 cable from Amazon (US) recently and haven't experienced any issues.

@@cantera631 I have to check it out. You are sure it is TB3 and not 10/20GBit USB 3.2 2x2 (or whatever 🙂)? If I can get such a cable to Europe, that would make my day…

Stay tuned for a vide later today - it's very much on the theme of TB3 RAID...

    • @roamingyak

@@nascompares I hope your not releasing a brand new product as I just bought four 8TB SSD's and a OWC mini enclosure!!
I have 25TB of 4K footage from Africa to crack on with editing... I don't like OWC Softraid at all - but the D8-332 is very big and expensive when your just wanting to use SSD's, and the TM 5 bay TB 3 older model seems to be slow if your using SSD's in Raid 0. I back everything up to a TM TB3 2 drive unit (2 * 16TB in Raid 0) and then a USB-C 5 bay TM unit in single disk mode. Plus the original HD's I backed up to in the bush after capture.
So really I just want space and speed for my main editing disks.

Hi buddy. Apologies for not replying to you in thanks for your donation (the comment earlier was genuinely independent of that and regards my Drobo video upgrade later. Thanks for being awesome dude.
