Great video. The bell box outside rings because the panel battery is faulty. The panel inside switches off , and the bell box rings on its internal battery (wire tamper feature).
It's a common occurrence with alarms that aren't regularly serviced.
It will usually stop ringing after around 15-20 minutes.
    Hope this helped 👍🏼

Adam's done a good job of that. Tell him to take no notice of some of the comments you can't always make a board look like a work of art and symmetrical. Hows the back now? I am sure it is frustrating but you don't want to come back on the tools too soon if not fully healed and regret it later.

Most alarms will go off if a cable has been cut /disconnected , its the tamper proof link that sets the bell ringing , also even disconnecting the mains and the backup battey the bell can still ring , as that has its own battery up in the bell box , but it will stop ringing in about 15-20 min

Nick, as loads are mentioning, the back up battery in panel was flat so Bellbox lost power. Carry round a spare battery in future either sell to customer or just use temporarily while on site.
    I would get 12v 2ah and 12v 7ah for different size panels.
Or just wait the 15-20min and it'll stop...

Nick SWA. Don't quote me on the but the reason someone will have said that it's not double insulated! The inner core or SWA is referred to as the "bedding" normally made from PVC but the bedding will not have a BSI recognised rating. Reading the datasheet may state that the bedding has been tested to the same standard although still not recognised by BSI. So as the designer of the circuit you could statement that it is okay to use the bedding as the double insulation. Some people won't want to take this risk with a statement and as such will give it a second level of protection.

So the theme that I am seeing are a lot of houses there have the service entrance buried in the house somewhere and many times the main fuse is right there as well. How does the fire dept find the main shutoff during a fire so they don't get electrocuted? In the US, the meter 99% of the time is on the outside of the house and can be pulled off to isolate the house. Same with gas meters, they are outside so they can be shut off there. In the US the new 2020 code requires single shutoff location outside as well so that the fire dept doesn't have to pull the meter now and can just flip a disconnect to isolate the entire house. Keep up the good work guys! 🍺👍😎

    • @haldo691

If they have any concerns they call the local gas or electric company and if no easy method can be found to isolate the property the whole road will be cut off. All modern houses have the supply outside in a box now

On the alarm, some need a battery in the panel. An some have a maintenance code you can type in that puts the system into power off mode.
Out of curiosity, did anyone (the public, the authorities) challenge you for the Alarm going off? [I often think the alarm is a waste of time as no one does anything. My car alarm went of for ages once and no one told me]

The battery in the alarm is dead. The bell box will sound from its own internal battery if 12V from the alarm panel is removed. Replacing the battery in the panel with a charged one will make it stop. Engineers code for the alarm panel will be needed though as the panel will come back on with a tamper alarm.

Back boxes for smokes alarms - shock horror, even dare I say it back boxes for lights. I would go to that standard it makes everything serviceable in the future. I suspect that while UK 18edition would not rule against it. People often laugh about US electricians twisting ground wires that actually helps physically to ensure ground continuity across the circuit even if they pop out of socket. However US standards require back boxes for all devices avoiding hidden junctions boxes or worse still Wago boxes. Doing so makes a house more serviceable and slightly easier to trace faults.

Pretty F**king stupid alarm design if it goes off during a power fail, the whole system should be battery backed up so it couldn't care less about a power fail particularly if it isn't even armed at the time. People that buy/install alarms like that are complete muppets.
