Once they' re detoxed, CLEAN & SOBER, they are such wonderful, caring, human beings. So capable to be loving & compassionate. I' ve met some wonderful, caring decent people in the program. It helps to have a faith. But when using & drugging the addict is like a total different person. In Maurice' s honest, raw interview after he found his SOBRIETY, ---he said that himself, ---when he was drinking,--he was all about himSELF. But their Program has to be worked by THEM. Growing up, my father was an alcoholic and wasn't around very much. When he was home he wasn't physically abusive, but his words always were. In the last few years he has gotten better, but it's hard for me to get close to him. Both of my sisters have gotten close but since I was the oldest, I always got the worst of his and my mother's rage growing up. The only person I was ever close to was my grandfather. If it hadn't been for him I would have killed myself years ago.
