  • how to reduce your has bills by running the heating at a lower temperature.
This tip works with any Heat only / conventional / regular condensing boiler if you have a hot water cylinder and two port / 3 port zone valves in the airing cupboard.
in this example we are using a Worcester Greenstar Ri boiler, but this will work with any make or model of heat only or system boiler. the lower the temperature of the water being heated by the boiler , the more heat the boiler can get out of the gas meaning more condensing and more efficiency.

We have just moved into a rural bungalow with an LPG fuelled one of these. It’s costing a fortune in gas. We have it set to come on 3 times a day like the combi in our old house, but it’s not working well, the radiators take forever to warm and it’s freezing. We have tried turning it down and keeping on longer but we get no flow through the roads unless set at about 3/4. The old dear who lived here before had the room thermostat set to 26 day and night and I don’t think she used any more than we do at present! We just can’t work it out and hate it.

You forgot one crucial point. If the boiler cannot modulate itself low enough to produce such low feed temps, then it will start cycling. When it cycles, efficiency goes out the window.

Hi just wondering is it possible to have WB 40CDI regular boiler setup to have different flow temps or a boost flow using any method of external control?
Basically id like to get my flow temp down but I need the boiler to boost my HW cylinder temp for legionnaires control. Thanks.

You need to look into priority hot water . This will allow you to have 2 different flow temps 👍

I am considering replacing a 30+ year old Potterton Kingfisher RS 50 CAT 1N boiler.
The hot water tank iis gravity fed with an overhead tank.
Thermostatically controlled power shower require such a tank.
Any advice on selecting an external central heating pump and a 3-port control valve?
    Many thanks!

Yes. You should use a priority hot water valve with weather compensation

      Thanks!
      Planning on a WB 12Ri or a 15Ri
any suggestions as to the make and model for the heating pump and the priority hot water valve with weather compensation?

My conventional heat only boiler is in a outhouse and the frost protection system is costing me a fortune. There is only a radiator control dial on the front, should I turn this down? it's a British Gas 330 boiler. Are there any other ways to save money?

British gas 330 is a re badged glowworm flexicom heat only .
The frost stat may be set too high . Try setting it lower (maybe 3°c)

Can any boiler do this automatically?

Yes most modern boilers can. it's called weather compensation. If there is a hot water cylinder you need what's called a priority hot water kit.
