OP DE KOFFIE #16 - Haroun Iqbal

Ever so often one encounters truly inspiring people, Haroun Iqbal is one of those. A young guitar player with the drive of a curious and enterprising musician. He is open, searching, developing a universe of his own by diving deep into a couple of traditional styles and marrying them to his jazz background. Diving deep into styles that happen to be close to my heart as well.
It was an energising encounter, that autumn day in our studio, as well while playing music as while exchanging insights and inspirational material, philosophising.
We play for you Toumani Diabate's Elyne Road and an exploration of the North Indian Raag Malkosh in teentaal (16 beat cycle).
As always I want to point out that listening with headphones or decent speakers will give you a better experience and will honour the music and sound in a better way.
"Op de koffie" means so much as "visiting for a cup of coffee" in my mother tongue, Dutch. In 2023, I will be inviting 27 people to meet in Studio Galinella, this wonderful place I share with some friends. We have fun together and play some music, connecting through the most beautiful language we have.
