I was a crew chief on the F-111F at Mt Home from 1975 to 1978. Tail number 0382. Pretty good bird. From there I went to Lakenheath, but worked at Feltwell PMeL. Had some great times there.
Nice build and I really appreciate your narrative as I am currently building the kit. Just one thing, if you haven't figured it out already....the decal scheme is for a G and you have built a C.
Beautifuly done sir. A start up here and watching your videos and builds either wants me to do it as seriously good or makes me think "No way I'm going to be that good" and quit now. Cheers
thanks mate. All it takes is practice mate. Just watch some of my old videos to see how i have improved over time. Don't give up mate its an awesome hobby.
Thanks mate. Its just practice and patience mate. I took years to get to this point and even i have a few failures and mess ups. We are always learning and refining our techniques. It one of the great parts of this awesome hobby always trying to do better. Make sure you stick at it mate and don't judge yourself to harshly. Let me know if you ever need any help mate.
Great looking model ,brother ! I have the solution for your decal problem. Use a piece of sponge. I use a makeup triangle sponge but they come in different shapes, too. I started using a sponge I got in my gaming pieces and figures. Using the sponge is simple. once you have your setting solution on let it work for a couple of minutes. Keeping the sponge perpendicular to the surface and push "straight down" and "straight back up". That's it. Be sure that you don't move the sponge any other way but straight up and down. If you don't you can move the decal. I've used this method for decades and never had an issue. I get a painted on look to my decals even over zimmerit !
+Ennis Anderson Thanks mate. Great tip. I will be trying this out on my next build so will let you know how it goes. Getting the painted on look is the thorn in the side of a lot of model makers. Thanks again mate
I was an ASURFIN (aircraft painter RAAF) on F-111 and was involved with painting from cammo to grey. You've done a great job but the decal kit has let you down, all markings were in matt black not yellow. The air to air refuelling marking was black not red. Red was on the cammo aircraft only. But as I said you've done a great job with the information you had.
Had a PIG model over 45 years ago where the crew module was removeable and the undercarriage was retractable. No such models any more but with the crew module upgrade could you make it removeable?
Well done, this - I'm still afraid to build my kit so it doesn't end up in the bin. She's a beautiful bird though I'd have gone with the RAFL designation on the tail, sorry mate I lived near the "other" Ipswich in the UK. Haha, but seriously a great build and some very nice technique indeed.
Sorry if this is silly but when you clean your oil brushes. Do you clean them right in a big bottle or make a small batch or something? Sorry oil is new to me. Great videos thank you!
i have a 2 small cups with white spirit one is for the first dirty wash and then after cleaning the brush on paper towel i rinse it off in the second cup. Thanks mate
WOW! Your model belongs in a museum. The F-111 is one of my favorites.
thanks mate. its is a beautiful bird.
I spent my first two years in the Air Force on the F-111 at RAF Lakenheath, UK. Good times.

Looks awesome. Definitely prefer it not overly dirty and weathered. What is the stronger decal solution you mentioned?
thanks mate. The strong decal solution is called Solvaset. I had to order it from ebay but it last for ages because i only use it on problem decals.
Just found this video and was a great help with my EF-111 project

This is by far my favorite by model and scale - i have it by Hobby Boss.
Its a great fun kit to build mate and it one of my faves as well. Such a beautiful bird.
I just wish I had thought it up. Fact is, it's a tip I read many years ago in Fine Scale Modeler.
Very nice build.
