The skill of a great Smith is that he can make swords, not only of the West, but the East as well. I bet you’d make a really good Jiang, or some of the Filipino blades. Thank you very much for sharing the videos of this commission!

Where did you find the fittings for this sword at? I saw they were on a wood sword.

That looks like a genuine Edo/Meiji piece. The tsuka and tsuba are not selfmade I guess.
Amazing work. Time to give the tanto and Sword complimentary handles - and hopefully some fine Saya with metal fittings.

The saya has no metal on it at all. It does have buffalo horn in the koiguchi, kurigata, and kojiri though.

    Brilliant!
I'll never question your skills again. I am currently working on my habaki. And I suck at soldering.
Also I can't believe you made a blade that fit all the fittings on the first try.

@@freerkwieringa275 I don't believe you were just lucky. You are WAY to meticulous for that. I believe got exact measurements of the fittings, and created the blade to fit.

You mean Edo period cause the Meiji era had a set of laws that prohibit the wearing of swords which put sword smith’s out of business as sword smith’s

      @@metalgearslayer9886 Generally you're right.
Maybe I should have said >genuine antiquated Edo piece with new habaki and seppa< but I felt "Meiji" was quicker. I just like the look of aged late Edo pieces with rusty iron fittings and the smudged tsuka-ito in contrast to the new blade, thick seppa and habaki. Something about the contrast makes it pop really nicely.
Freerk did excellent work and the fittings compliment the blade.

Echt Freerk, elke keer als ik je iets zie maken straalt je vakmanschap ervan af. Het mooiste vind ik de tijd die je neemt om te kijken en elk detail in je op te nemen, dat is als '5 keer meten 1 keer zagen'. Gewoon top!
(Really Freerk, every time I see you create something, your craftmanship shines. The best part I think is the time you take to look at every detail, that's like 'measuring 5 times, cutting once'. Just top notch!)

hello sir ,your work is very good, I also try to do something new by learning from you. You can tell what chemical you use to blacken the head or blade?

Iam no expert but Iam just wondering should the seam on the rayskin wrap be on the top or the bottom of the handle and not the side?
