For being such a failure, MVCI and the discussions sbfp had over it taught me so much about fighting games, and how a fine game can die out when it should have dominated by just a few key elements that I, for most other genres of games, had looked past.
One thing I can say in favor of Infinite is that at least Captain Marvel doesn't have that stupid pseudo-Mohawk thing with her hair like she does in the comics. That hair style triggered me more than it really should.
I am tired of his GG videos too, most of the cast are interesting and unique, but nope let's just play the 2 easy to get in characters, Max and Edgelord... sigh....
But Max and others who are so deep into the fighting game scene are not representitive of the average player so unless you are also at that level it doesn't matter how much he likes it.
Seeing the side by side comparisons in character designs saddens me. Seriously, how do you fuck this up so badly. The game has a scene of Dante high-fiving Iron man and they made it look lame. DANTE HIGH-FIVES IRONMAN AND THEY MADE IT LOOK LAME. How do you archive such a level of unhype?
Yeah, I mean hell, I'm not asking for an Award winning script. A simple yet spectacular story can work just fine, as long as the writing is good. This was not one of those unfortunately.
The worse part is that the ending had potential, but the way they ended it just kind of felt like they're just waiting in the shadows to rub their hands together before shilling as much money as they can with some story DLC.
Max Romano - I'm not. Imagine Nero vs Luke Cage or Leon vs Daredevil. Dude, Capcom had an EASY slam dunk in their hands but instead somehow threw the ball off court hitting the guy selling beverages in the face spillling all that shit over the public
Both woolie and maxs views on the game couldnt make the game look worse. Its so much worse then just hating it because it just looks like a joyless waste of time.
MVCI is the Battleborn of the FGC, once DBFZ comes out it's going to quickly bleed players until there's nothing left but hardcore Capcom fanboys and tourney shills.
I agree with Woolie. I was enjoying the gameplay but once I realized that the only character I actually cared about was Jedah it got stale real quick seeing as the roster was whatever to me. Hopefully Monster Hunter can get me back into it and give my Jedah an actual teammate.
Yeah, and several of them haven't been in Versus games. We've had Morrigan, Felicia, Anakaris, Jedah, B.B. Hood, Demitri, and Hsien-Ko. I wanna see others like Rikuo, Talbain, Q-Bee, Donovan, etc. for sure!
Woolie is 100% right about MvC:I being the Tekken Revolution of the MvC franchise.I played every single Tekken(even Advance for GBA) but I didn't give a fuck about Revolution. And that was FREE TO PLAY LOL.Also this game biggest problem is that it has been released waaaay too quickly.People were praying for MVC3 to come out because of how many years passed since MVC2.So it doesn't really matter how good MvC:I gameplay is because IMHO nobody really wanted it(not as bad as MvC3 at least)and came out just to compensate for SF5 failure, relying on a MCU based roster hoping at least kids would buy the game
"Max was born with a smile on his face." I mean I'd have a pretty big smile on my face if people donated literally thousands of dollars every day in a attempt to get my attention. I'd be fucking goofballs insane.
No where near chaotic?! Have these fools seen a match with two really good players? My god when a good Dante, Ultron, Dr.Strange, Dormammu are in there, WHOA, that shit is chaotic as fuck.
David Salcedo So many lights! So much meter! My mind!!! I can see the eternal expanse of the outer cosmos!!! Huh...the outer cosmos plays well but is kind of bland. Oh well.
David Salcedo too bad the majority of players will never experience anything like that so who cares. Capcom keeps trying to make these fighters for evo but forget that its trying to makes its games for a very small amount of people and it ends with these games being hallow and unfun
Joel Rodriguez I think they are talking about an accidental leak were an employee accidentally uploaded a 5 minute video meant for internal use, to youtube, explaining their plans for MvsC infinite tournaments and how much money they were expecting to get and how it was gonna be split between marvel and capcom. I dont remember much but there is a thread on neogaf about the whole thing.
The rosters really not concerning to people. It's pretty much whoever you'd expect in a Dbz game. It's seeing these people in a new game play style that has people hyped.
I disagree If it's only 20 characters I will for the sake of not being a hypocrite be critical of that in the same way I am of MvCI I'm going into this as a Dragonball fan first
Way I see it is if a game sequel makes a previous installment have no value whatsoever (See Left 4 Dead 2, Payday 2, Borderlands 2, etc) or has nothing new to offer to the franchise (see MvC: I) then it has at least partially failed as a sequel. A sequel should improve upon the original while remaining it's own entity.
Left 4 Dead 1 has way more interesting protagonists and storylines, Borderlands 1 has a overall much better atmosphere and Secret Armory is an amazing piece of DLC. But I also only think your point is valid when it comes to heavily story driven experiences, (RPG's). A sequel of any game where the main focus of the game is gameplay should absolutely blow the first game out of the water. Assassin's Creed 2 is such a good game not only because of it's story, but because the gameplay innovations are so distinct.
There is a specific line that Nova states in this game that pisses me off that he made it in instead of a very requested character from a series that marvel is real pushing. Pretty much Nova stole Star-Lord's roster spot as a Guardians Rep. so every time I fight this character online I think, your a waste of a character to bring back.
"Even the people who are defending the gameplay are like... Ehh" Really? Tell that to Maximilian Dood. His hype for this game is the ONLY real reason I went out and bought it. ... That and my ignorant hope that Sigma will be cool.
Jonadiah13 Max himself said the Gameplay is a 10 but the Presentation is a 6. You watch his video and even at the end he is like "eh, I could see why people wouldn't want to play this because it's hard to recommend"
I'm not bitching I'm literally just saying that I'm not gonna use that code cause I'm not gonna use that costume anyway I just find it funny that the grand pre order bonus is a costume of one of the most unpopular heroes today
Harry Casanova who gives a shot about how much the top players like it when everything around the game is so bland and joyless. If those people got what they wanted we would always get function vs function and you would always have to play on the training stage. Because what what those people like is not what the majority of buyers want to see.
Are you going to sell a game to the top 32 best players or are you going to sell a game to a million potential buyers. Everyone is admitting that the gameplay is pretty solid, nobody is disagreeing there, but when you're a top level player you only have to see function vs function because that's how you win tourneys. For literally everyone else, if we can't enjoy what we are looking at, it doesn't matter if the gameplay is good, these stale feelings won't go away. Not to mention, people are going to just wait for ultimate infinite anyway. Just shut up and take your lumps until Capcom fixes it anyway
the problem with this game is that it has a fucking story mode.... i will only say this once *no one but fucking idiots by fighting games for the story* fighting games can have story's yeah arc system know how to do it but because you have to make shit tons of cutscenes for characters and everything's gotta be affordable. mvc 1-3 are limited to the highest degree when it comes to plot and all of that is invested into game play ascetics etc. I believe none of the graphical issues and and such would happen if they just made it like the other ones and I CAN GUARANTEE the roster would be far more diverse.
no you like the nostalgia flood of retelling the plots to the first 3 games and parts of other games. mk9's story is literally just the equivalent to watching the movie version of a book you like that skims past everything that isnt essential so they can meet the budget and time quota. name one original thing besides raidens time gimmick that was new?
also i'm not saying no lore or fighting games, in fact i love lore like oro ties his arm back so he doesn't kill people or how iori yagami is actually a pacifist bass player who is only trying to murder someone because he hates his face, but don't waste time trying to make campaigns when you can just have arcade mode sprinkle those things with supplementary materials. soul caliburs (and tekkens) lore is great but don't rob us of gameplay for a couple of cutscenes. i'm never coming back for story mode so a one time gimmick for casuals who will drop the game afterwards so and i don't think anyone else who really plays fighting games will either.just give us character bio's/ backgrounds with some why are they here moments in arcade.
I think the state of fighting game stories is really interesting. They're either horrible and only done to unlock something and ignored (infinite, various streetfighters and Kof's, Ssbm) or mildly interesting and never returned to (MK9-10, KI, Tekken 6) I've heard about the anime games having good stories but can't speak on them personally. What I can speak on is Soul Calibur 3's adventure mode which may not have been the main story but that format has an enormous amount of potential and I highly recommend you check out what I'm talking about since you read this far.
Damn the way woolie feels about this game, i kinda feel that way about dbfz. Its a beautiful game with alot of love put into it, but i always found dbz's combat scheme to be boring. I really wish a different shonen was used instead.
Same, a lot of DBZ's power comes from nostalgia. I don't think I could sit through it now that I'm an adult. It was never a big part of my childhood so I don't have that connection. Would have rather had Arcsys do a JoJo or One Piece fighting game. It will be interesting to see how it pans out competitively. I believe it will get good sales but hemorrhage population due to the influx of casuals that are going to pick it up.
Those are great examples. in those series, character abilities are much more unique and different from one another. You wouldn't hear the complaint that characters feel samey.
They do the same shit to. Yamcha a little less maybe. kick, punch, beam , energy balls yada yada. WHen I say this Im talking about the fighting in dragonball in general. The Fighting other series like one piece , jojo, etc just make dbz boring in comparison. This is just my opinion anyway so whatever. Also you know what make trunks cooler than everyone else off the bat? he uses a sword.
In addition to still looking samey (because the source material does not have that much variety itself, alas.) the mechanics also seem mostly like "MVC3 but polished" with the same sort of assists, 3v3, with the Sparking/X-factor trigger that feels the same way. The cool parts of that gameplay are like, the rush flying thing, and actually taking control out when someone is downed to start at neutral.
MVCI may not have the most amazing rooster but the gameplay is great and could have been way worse. with someone slapping fox and marvel on the wrist and talking some sense (for better characters) into them and a bit more time in the oven this could be from an 7 to a 10 Also it has nothing to do with disney it's all fox and marvel's fault.
sokumo tanaka How is it Fox's fault at all? Just bcause they own the *movie rights* to the X-Men? Marvel has free reign over the characters' appearances *in-game,* but they don't want to give FOX any attention when they could push their own MCU (and, might I add, poorly so).
Jordy Morty They also own the in game rights, at first I was on the same boat as you until they stated it in some interviews and such again you can watch a Maximillion dude video. So marvel can't use them and I'm not just saying it's exclusivly their fault but marvel and their pettiness is what's halting characters from being used.
Does anyone just play fighting games anymore? I mean shit this game is really good. of course it has flaws everything does. mvc2 was dominated by 4 god tier characters and reused a bunch of old sprites. mvc3 brought us the most lame comeback mechanic ever in x factor. street fighter 2 has random stun. street fighter 4 was nothing but option selects and all ultra brought was reused sfxt assets and a cammy clone. we played them though cause they were fun. fighting games are about the fight.
really dbfz is so boring only because it's beautiful people can play it...i am already bored of beams everywhere....pick 3 saiyan and you can't tell difference until you pay attention
Nah don't worry about it, Yamcha and Tien(and other characters) will fix that problem immediately. Plus, you just have to judge dbfz on its release date before you can say that it's "boring". However, if you are really desperate for high level dbfz gameplay, check out this link (th-cam.com/video/jWUwPm34v48/w-d-xo.html) and Nakkiel's channel. You won't regret it.
Pat's little howl of anguish as he remembers Tekken Revolution is hilarious
For being such a failure, MVCI and the discussions sbfp had over it taught me so much about fighting games, and how a fine game can die out when it should have dominated by just a few key elements that I, for most other genres of games, had looked past.
I like how nobody mentioned how unbearably long the loading screens are.
Funny how a character from Dragon Ball that everyone shits on for fun gets me more hyped than any character in MvC:I.
That's what hype trains can do. They can make you do some dumb, illogical things.
*Any character other than Jedah
The cast in MVC:I sucks, there is no one there to get hyped about. Except maybe Jedah, but that's about it.
Toriyama Handjob Effect
One thing I can say in favor of Infinite is that at least Captain Marvel doesn't have that stupid pseudo-Mohawk thing with her hair like she does in the comics. That hair style triggered me more than it really should.
16:16 well for Max he's actually playing more characters than I've ever seen him try before so there's that.
I love Max but he usually sticks to characters like "that one Ken-like shoto that hits really hard" and "actually Ken".
If Max could only use one character in KOF14, he would just stick to Rock and say "FUCK YOU" to everybody else! He needs to expand his options.
+joedatius+ now I'm curious what exactly "so there's that" implied
Dude your channel shoots these out fast!! once again thanks for the upload.
If my internet connection weren't shit I would upload faster.
Still thanks.
This fucking guy. :P
Kofi Smith: F-fast!!
jamg: You should see me with my weights off.
I miss the chaos factor
That's the whole reason I loved MvC2 and 3
I think the gameplay is great, but I'll wait for the inevitable ultimate edition to pick it up myself.
How do you archive such a level of unhype?
ncala Part of that was because of bad writing mind you. Not that you're wrong, just saying.
It's important to remember they cleaned up a lot of those models in the final release XP
ncala despite the extremely shitty models, the gameplay itself is very fun and balanced imho
With DBFZ and BBXTB coming out, I'm cool with MvCI being bad.
Max Romano - I'm not. Imagine Nero vs Luke Cage or Leon vs Daredevil. Dude, Capcom had an EASY slam dunk in their hands but instead somehow threw the ball off court hitting the guy selling beverages in the face spillling all that shit over the public
Capcom need to release a free character pack, even if it's returning characters from Umvc3 would create some goodwill, but I doubt it.
This isn't a fighting game
IT'S A PRISON
So is like we never leave UMvC3? I can understand the tired coming from somewhere like that.
I'd rather buy Injustice 2 than MvCI and I'm way more of a fan of MvC than Mortal Kombat/Injustice style games.
Both woolie and maxs views on the game couldnt make the game look worse. Its so much worse then just hating it because it just looks like a joyless waste of time.
Yeah, it may play well, but it's just sad how Infinite is lacking so much of what the past games had
So if this had been MvC3, Woolie would have been getting it on with the bi babes
Since when was Reuben Langdon the voice of Chris, Pat...?
Also fuck Luffy
He isn't, he does the motion capture.
Aaahh ok, I suppose he's beefy enough
Dang, was kind of hoping it included the other small talks of Marvel that was all through the rest of the podcast too, such as the E-Mail reply.
More Darkstalkers in general are needed.
Talbain, Felicia and Bulleta, we need those three back.
Yeah, and several of them haven't been in Versus games. We've had Morrigan, Felicia, Anakaris, Jedah, B.B. Hood, Demitri, and Hsien-Ko. I wanna see others like Rikuo, Talbain, Q-Bee, Donovan, etc. for sure!
Holy shit. I’ve never noticed..
oh look no matt
HA
The Ace>Luffy analogy was fucking incredible
Ultimate MvCI when though
Woolie is 100% right about MvC:I being the Tekken Revolution of the MvC franchise.I played every single Tekken(even Advance for GBA) but I didn't give a fuck about Revolution. And that was FREE TO PLAY LOL.Also this game biggest problem is that it has been released waaaay too quickly.People were praying for MVC3 to come out because of how many years passed since MVC2.So it doesn't really matter how good MvC:I gameplay is because IMHO nobody really wanted it(not as bad as MvC3 at least)and came out just to compensate for SF5 failure, relying on a MCU based roster hoping at least kids would buy the game

i'm not sure if Salty is the word your looking for lol
did no one tell them mvci stole mechanics from naruto ninja storm series?
MaryJanePSO2 Details?

I dont remember much but there is a thread on neogaf about the whole thing.
+sascachuhuan+ thanks.
It got beat by fight of gods? Really is it boming that hard?
So put simply, the roster is weak?
The gameplay is great, the roster's weak because of DLC bullshit.
Well these will be a fun LP of ranting right?
Lets pray DB FighterZ won't have the character fatique
And let's also hope that if it does they won't be huge hypocrites about it
The rosters really not concerning to people. It's pretty much whoever you'd expect in a Dbz game. It's seeing these people in a new game play style that has people hyped.
But if it's just 20 people then that's the same issue that this game has
I disagree
If it's only 20 characters I will for the sake of not being a hypocrite be critical of that in the same way I am of MvCI
I'm going into this as a Dragonball fan first
I get that
And that's also totally fine
It really comes down to being happy and being very happy with DB FighterZ
Thats what happens when you remove the xmen from the roster and not change the combos
They're whole thing with Ace and Luffy is pretty much me with Zeke and Rex in Xenoblade 2.
Way I see it is if a game sequel makes a previous installment have no value whatsoever (See Left 4 Dead 2, Payday 2, Borderlands 2, etc) or has nothing new to offer to the franchise (see MvC: I) then it has at least partially failed as a sequel. FuegoNintendo Do people give a shit about Nova? I would be marking out hard if Drax and Star-Lord joined so we got the entire GotG lineup.
I really cant see the comparison to the ftp "sequels" this is miles ahead of that soul calibur/tekken games
They are right characters give incentive to stick with a game. Luckily for me marvel has ghost rider rocket and others that i like.
"Even the people who are defending the gameplay are like... Ehh"

The game even came with a download code for shitty Captain Marvel that I didn't use
It was free and I felt ripped off
BlueBlazer ummm, No Capitan marvel was in the base cast. the fuck you takin about?
I'm talking about that in the box theres a code for Major Carol Denvers with short hair
Aka Shitty Captain Marvel
BlueBlazer were talking about a costume you don't have to use. Jesus. that's some dumb shit to be bitching about
I'm not bitching
I'm literally just saying that I'm not gonna use that code cause I'm not gonna use that costume anyway
I just find it funny that the grand pre order bonus is a costume of one of the most unpopular heroes today
BlueBlazer sounds a lot like Bitching.
