Olá RobSmith! The main difference is the pronunciation. In Brazil the vowels are more open in European PT are more closed. Then there are different words and pronouns are also used differently, for example the pronoun "tu" is not used in Brazil and you is common. In Portugal the pronoun you are preferentially omitted because it is considered unpolite.
