    Excellent use of the old nuts, strong and easy to weld and above all nice and cheap :-)

      Sure is mate, trying to make it strong and reliable and not cost too much at the same time!

    Looking good, love your comment about projects, so true it's exponential the closer you get to the end the slower it goes! (Oh and I now have a rocket roadster hulking in the workshop, oh did I mention that... :-). )

      Hi Ted... is the Rocket yours mate?... and you're right, the more you do the more you reliase there is still more to do! Cheers Del

    You say "there are better way's to do it". Sure could be, but the way you handle it, is just the way you like it, nothing wrong with! Working the way you want gives more joy (in my opinion).

      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree Joppie, it's a project to be enjoyed for the journey! The end result is not important at this point... thanks for watching, take care, Del

      Thanks buddy, much appreciated, I know how it is, I used to follow builds on line when I had the time and they get addictive! Moving along now and starting to enjoy it!

    Good tip on locating the bolts Del. I love Allfix, I didn't know about them until you had them in a video when you needed a bolt to block that EU gubbins off. I used them for some bolts I needed for my bars, perfect bolts and extremely cheap!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure thing mate, I've picked up the bolts now and all five I needed cost less than one single OE bolt from Triumph! ... happy days!

  • @guywren4801
    @guywren4801 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another way of marking those bolt positions might have been to use a pair of those X-Ray spectacles they used to advertise in the back of Mad Magazine - although on reflection they might not have been strong enough to see through your steel as they were only designed to see through young ladies' clothing!

    • @Moonfleet41

      Ah that reminds me of the brilliant B-movie with Rex Harrison, The Man With X-Ray Eyes! See you on the next ride out mate... cheers Del

    Nice progresses on your project mate.. slowly but surely you're getting there!
    I saw a custom Harley at the dealer where I bought mine with a bash plate, and they did weld little cylinders across the frame on which they eventually bolted the plate itself: a job very well done as well as very nice to see, I believe though they went to a professional welder to get that done, your way is much "easier" and also leaves the plate clean of too many bolts and studs..
    Here I've started putting my hands on my 48, starting with a few accessories and hopefully will manage to make some mods eventually.. just have to do everything on the street as I haven't got a garage but I've already posted a walkaround video of my bike and will keep you posted.. you get ready to receive more questions in the coming weeks!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matteo, good to hear from you again... just watched your video, and I can't believe that some careless idiot keeps hitting your bike! Some people just don't care, do they?! With the rear fender, have you thought about contacting one of the guys that do paintless dent removal to see if they can life the dent out and save you buying a new one? Must be worth a try eh?...
      You can get a kit to drop your indicators to the bottom clamp, it basically replaces the 'arms', you use your indicator heads and junk the factory ones, rather than grinding the pegs off...
      Good luck with any mods you have planned... my first one would be to set a bear trap for the bastard who keeps knocking it over! I didn't realise you were in England, so why not join our forum mate, and make some more friends? Here's a link... bikers.boards.net/... Cheers Del

      @matteocenturioni5259 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Del!
      thanks for your kind comments.. there are in fact so many idiots out there!
      I must say the guys at HD have been pretty supportive with me, and they should help me out with the rear fender and pull it together for a little more than a hundred quid, I will however get a few more quotes (or maybe even try to do something myself with an hammer and a lot of patience?)
      Concerning the indicators, the official HD kit doesn't actually fit the 48 - 2014, at least this is what they told me in HD.. I will keep looking and see what I can find, maybe some after market stuff.
      I've already thought about fitting some cameras pointing at the bike.. might be doing that, for peace of mind you know?
      Thanks for the link mate, I actually joined the forum already, it's just that I am a bit rubbish at that and don't really go on there very often.
      Thanks for that and again nice job with the bash plate!
      p.s.: nice pronunciation on the Q&A vid: you sounded like a proper Italian when saying my name!
      M.

    Pretty much the same way I would have tackled it buddy, and I'm the same never throw anything away, unfortunately most people know this and always pop round with the usual, "Oh I'm don'y suppose you've got one of these by any chance have you" and yeah I normally have, the problem occurs when you want one for yourself and then realize you gave it some bugger else, which is probably where you're forth bolt went, lol, RSMF.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was as noble a place as giving it to a needy mate then I would have been happy, but knowing my luck it prolly just rolled under the f*kin bench and no doubt I'll find it when I don't need it! Losing things in the garage can FRO! Cheers mate, Del

    If you want something you have to put in the time as you say.
    A simple trick when you need to make an impression like for the 4 bolts, you could use lipstick. Choose the color you fancy and smudge some on the bolt heads. I have used this trick many times on edges of electrical boxes to outline where they are when I need to drywall over them for a home.
    Seeing as the bolts were inset, I guess you could have just used 2 so the outside would look cleaner, just a suggestion that is too late ;)
    All too true with the unfinished projects you speak of. It is always difficult to project how much time is really required to finish things, especially when doing one off's.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right mate, any one off build gets slower and slower the further along you get, which is why so many unfinished projects are for sale!

  • @paulelverstone8677
    @paulelverstone8677 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a thought. Is it essential to weld the nuts to the bashplate or is it just good workshop practice to do so? Surely when you bolt everything together and it all cinches up they're going to be held in the same position and do the same job?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess you could do it that way, Paul, but better to have them nice and secure, that way when I take it off for cleaning, I won't get a handful of shrapnel falling out the back! It also has to have the frame brace plate hanging on the bolts when they go in too!

  • @navythomas8
    @navythomas8 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I prolly would have used stud bolts. That way you could have gone stainless.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will be using stainless allen bolts obviously as in that environment nothing else would last.. you'll see in the next video!
