You should definitely give it a try, especially if you don't play that many shooters. If you are used to modern ego shooters Fallout 3's gameplay might feel a little too simple unfortunately, but I think the atmosphere of the game is still great.
The Fallout US must have had some damn good anti-warhead defense for their CAPITAL to be still standing this good 200 years after a nuclear war. If they didnt, DC would just be a big crater.
Or alternatively it wasn't hit with all nukes in existence in the hands of China, just one nuke, like any other bigger city. Look at Fallout 4, a nuke hit Boston (well an area close to Boston) and your character even sees it with their own eyes, yet they live to tell about it. There is a "Crater of Atom" in the middle of the Glowing Sea (where the nuke hit), but it didn't level the whole area.
@@Croftice1 yeah, but that's not really how nuclear war works, especially in a setting like Fallout where the absurdity of us as a species mass producing hundreds of many different types of incredibly destructive bombs, I mean even IRL we've got some world shakers, is amped up to a comical degree. They probably have even MORE of the kind of weapons that can carpet the surface of our planet probably several times over. Plus, they sent 77 warheads at Las Vegas, they're defs going to send more at the capital. It makes way more sense that Fallout's US government had crazy advanced anti-warhead tech that made most nukes detonate in the sky (still horrible and apocalyptic, but at least monuments will remain standing), rather than these countries with an abundance of nukes just sending 1 lonesome bomb for each city when they've got 100 for every population center, military base and industrial sector and nothing to lose at this point. Also considering that everyone pre-war was quite obviously expecting a nuclear war, they were definitely developing and used sci-fi counter missile stuff for all Fallout cities to not be just empty craters.
The thing that bugs me is that the bridge that you think is the “Arlington Memorial Bridge” but it’s actually the Francis Scott Key Bridge but it’s in the place of the Arlington Memorial Bridge

Even though the dimensions of the areas are mostly wrong I still love that they put in a lot of little eastereggs like street signs with real street names.
Of course the white house is just a complete crater in the event of nuclear war lol. No doubt a direct target.
Dean Martin is great Frank Sinatra is good and bing crosby had a voice as smooth as honey. Love the oldies they are so nostalgic.
It goes perfect with Dean martin and Frank sinatra singing in the background
Fallout 3 is the only one produced by Bethesda to have fully captured the post-atomic atmosphere, even that green filter is special and in fact the graphic mods that remove it take away a good chunk of the atmosphere.
I completely agree with you. Fallout 3 holds a special place in my heart because no other Fallout game has managed to give me that strangely unique and constant feeling of nostalgia and desolation.
they're never going to be able to find a replacer for the acid filter. no matter what, fo3 is a special case. bleak as it is, sun still shines over the ruins of man
Don't know why but that video just made me feel happy.
I have to remember this is a alternate universe
God I miss this game... I mean, when I was young and was playing F3 for the first time ever. Nothing will ever recreate the experiences.
I went to the air and space museum in dc a few years back and they were playing the fallout 3 soundtrack in the gift shop
Nice.
That was a great video! Interesting to see the comparisons between the game and real life.
Am I the only potato who after years of playing only just realized the citadel is the pentagon?
u deserve way more subs ur so good
thx a lot, maybe my stuff is too random
can you imagine how many terabytes the game would be if they included the entire unground structures in the game? it would be like a 200TB install lol
Ever thought about doing more locations? Other fallouts? The music as well as my love for these games made this a very pleasant video that I can't help but rewatch time and time again.
Hi Nate, thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoy the video :) I thought about making more comparisons with other Fallout games but then I noticed that there already are such videos about New Vegas and Fallout 4 out there. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games so this project was dear to my heart but unfortunately I don't think I'm going to make more videos like this in the forseeable future.
it's funny that part of Abraham lincoln's head was found by some random wastelander away from the memorial.
Nelson Muntz is part of the fallout universe?
I have been to a lot of these places so it’s really cool to see it in a fallout game but I still haven’t played fallout 3 yet
You should definitely give it a try, especially if you don't play that many shooters. If you are used to modern ego shooters Fallout 3's gameplay might feel a little too simple unfortunately, but I think the atmosphere of the game is still great.
if you think about it, it's a little bit scary because it can really happen in real life, just like the 1963 almost nuclear war.
Growing up in the DMV, this game has a special place in my heart.
I visited DC after playing Fallout 3. It was pretty freaking cool
I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but I never realized that the citadel was the pentagon lol
John Henry Eden says so on Enclave Radio.
@@deletdis6173 I never listened to them tbh I hate the enclave so much that I was never willing to add to their audience numbers haha
@@pyroAdapt Ave, amicus
Didn't realise on my first playthrough either
Well done and great choices of music! Love Dino and Frank too!
I am replaying the game and I appreciate this comparison so much, thank you!
so glad that this video ended up in my recommendations
Fallout 3 has always been my favorite because I live in real life just about where megatown is located
You can tell a foreigner made this because he’s using full names for the landmarks instead of the last names only.
Yep ;)
white house? more like wide hole
They should add Money Burns A Hole In My Pocket into Fallout 5
Went from being amazing with fallout 4 to what the fuck with fallout 76
Damn it’s crazy, but this is how everything would actually look like if the bombs dropped.
All this time i thought Raven Rock was a reference to Morrowind.
After playing this and going to DC it’s very weird to see all of it put together and not in ruins
This was just plain awesome.
No wonder i couldn't find the white house, it was wiped from existence
Holy shit I never even realized the White House was in this game, and I have played MAAAANY hours. I suppose the fence there makes sense now.
it always seems like Frank Sinatra is adding more and more songs to his discography...
1:07 Remembers me of the fresh prince of bel air mansion
Seeing this makes me hope I get to play a fallout game set in the Illinois wasteland… trying to see home just ya know blown tf up
New to the fallout games but being from Maryland this makes all this so creepy haha.
Excellent work and good music choice
Ah home, feels good to play a fallout game that takes place in your home town. I've been all over DC and the metro ceiling is spot on.
It's an alternate universe so the buildings and locations will be different.
Born and raised in Fairfax county, about a 15 min drive outside of DC, needless to say this is my favorite fallout game.
Love the before and afters
Just went to DC and saw quite a few fallout 3 locations.
Pretty cool.
Didn't see any mutants, Raiders or ghouls though.
Do y’all ever just miss the Mojave and Capital Wasteland like it was a real place? Me too.
I definitely miss the atmosphere of Capital Wasteland.
@@gizzly50I don’t have my copies of either game anymore but I used to boot them up just to walk around. I left my heart in New Vegas…
So many iconic locations in this game which you can get lost especially in the metro in fallout 4 this was kind of lacking .
You are right, i messed this up. I already clarfied this in a comment a while ago, should be pinned beneath the video.
@@gizzly50 Even I thought it was the Arlington Memorial Bridge until I checked the wiki
Basically fallout with no destruction
excellent comparison. although it would be better to show post-nuclear pictures after real version
Thank you :) I think it depends on what you know better. I only knew the game when making the video and i played this game way too much. So for me the real life pictures were the revealing part. If you know the real locations better then it is propably the other way round.
Great comparison of the locations, thanks
