More seriously, he was afraid of his opponent casting Swarm Intelligence for the full price, with a Gxx and a Wx decks as the other players, meaning there'd be anti-enchants available; afraid enough to give the guy with a Divine Visitation in play and anti-wipe built into his creature suite a full grip and 21 mana so he could use all of it on his next turn.
I also have that deck and personally, I prefer rolling a die, it's just as randomized, there's less of a chance of people saying "You're flipping it so it's always tails" and also, heavy coin + non-double sleeved deck can equate to cards/sleeves getting little indents from the coin if said coin lands on the table.

My guess is that Tim didn't realize he could freely activate the ability in response to itself (and also didn't realize that Okaun also doubled his toughness with any successful flip). Likely just misplays from someone who didn't build the deck, which is understandable.

He should have casted zyndrsplt and draw (most of) his deck. I can hardly imagine losing from that point if it's build right. Sol ring + efreet + 3 lands meant he could have won on turn 3 if he wanted ...
13:24 : Yeah I was very confused by that with how much a threat Karlov's field was that there wasn't a Cyclonic Rift grabbed with Spell Seeker. Yes people have strong feelings for that card but the only way to deal with things that like dying is to just make them go away. Maybe it got wheeled away?

I run a Gisela deck. Most of my card draw is group hug artifacts like Temple Bell or wheel stuff like Dragon Mage. I tossed Smothering Tithe in without thinking about it, figured two or three treasures a turn would be worth it. I was not thinking that every turn dragon mage would wheel then teferi's puzzle box would semi wheel again and I'd get 30 treasure. Smothering Tithe is a bonkers card. It's madness.

The way I see it, you can activate the Efreet's ability as much as you like, and by that double Okaun's P&T... not exactly arbitrarily large, since you can't decide how many coin flips you win, but still infinitely often?
In general, there are now only 4 cards left that flip coins but don't have you win or lose the flip, Mana Clash, Molten Sentry Odds//Ends and Two-Headed Giant. Anything else has the controller flip the coin and win or lose it (unless multiple parties flip, then each one wins or loses accordingly).
I'm guessing that Island he played on turn 1 was in his hand too, and Muddstah just missed it, since those other six cards do stone nothing by themselves.

my guess is he mulliganed twice already and just didn't want to go lower than 6, and maybe also had misplaced confidence in being able to scry 1 to hit another land. a bad idea, but sometimes you go down to 5 and are no better off. some people refuse to go below 6 cards.

People saying 'why not Cyclonic Rift''...if you are 'morally opposed' then why not one of the symmetrical blue wipes, like Evacuation etc etc...methinks that Arixmethes was just not an interactive deck design and had lots of 1-2 cmc spells designed to get that Kraken 'released' asap....if I mad Arithmetic, I would probably make a 'man-land' type deck with all the 'awaken' mechanic stuff and 'bounce/destroy/freeze' non-land permanents.

I wanna say that Smothering Tithe is good, but not crazy good. Perhaps really good for specifically Boros because the ramp area for them is terrible, but outside of wheels I wanna say it’s only good.
I have played about 10 games with smothering tithe in my decks and got in on the board 6 times. It is stupid good. People draw a lot of cards in commander and paying 2 mana each draw is not cheap. I agree the wheel effect is fairy tale land but they are not required for tithe to go crazy. Pairs nicely with x spells like torment of hailfire.
@@kero1640 But if you're playing green it's close to essentially useless and if you play black you play Urborg + Coffers combo or Crypt Ghast like effects, so it's not that good if you're in those colors. Plus if you're really in anything outside of boros and somewhat azorius or mono-white, it's next to a dead card that won't get enough value. In addition if you're using it on X spells often for more than a +4 or +5, I'm afraid you're just playing too casual of opponents who don't really wanna win games.
the Zndrslpt payer made a big mistake when he gave 20 tokens to the teysa player. Also he should have used the coin flips to save Okaun from the lavalanche. i don't get why didn't the Arixmethes player grab a cyclonic rift honestly.

Frenetic Efreet weeps this game for his mis-use. You can draw your library or one shot someone with that card and either of your commanders.

Sean had stepped out at that point and Tim was piloting at the time, it's easy to forget that Okaun looks at all flips instead of just his combat ones

Because Swarm Intelligence was in Tal's hand and they wanted to get rid of it. Also, they were unaware of Smothering Tithe's power.

Divine Visitation turns every Token you would get into an Angel. Jonathan shouldnt get all the Treasure, but Angel- Token. Treasure are Token as well
