Ulthwe is definitely my FAVOURITE Craftworld with Iyanden being my second. A black theme is so clean with their white zig zags. The lore behind Iyanden having so many Wraith constructs is cool since usually Eldar find it distasteful.
The lore of Iyanden is probably my favorite and makes the most sense for them to try and come back from being a dying race - "hey most of us have been wiped out, how about we grab those spirits and make em keep fighting."
As a new player on the table top, love these descriptive little analysis of the races subfactions. Makes it soo much easier to process everything! Hopefully you do an updated one for CSM when the codex drops 🤞🏼
I love Iyanden and run a pretty competitive wraithhost that works well. That said the rules look weak now I believe the two rules should be changed to -1 ap like Armour of Contempt and they should just straight ignore attrition like Sacred Rose and Dark Angel's. That's not to broken and I think would make the faction a tad more competitive without being broken. Ulthwe is straight ridiculous why do they have 4 rules when the others have 2...
If you want an invincible Autarch, make them a skyrunner, give the the Aegis of Eldanesh, take masters of concealment and then cast protect. You have a character that has a 2+ save and essentially ignores 2 AP, and can make one attack per turn 0 damage.
I started playing Alaitoc in 1994, when they were the poster boys of the Eldar, before the different craftworld rules existed. It was just a color choice, then. It’s been a total rollercoaster over the past few editions, since Alaitoc has been broken, OP, meta, loathed, and (currently) terrible. “Extra toughness” on Eldar is an oxymoron. If anyone shoots you, you’re still dead.
I remember those days. Back when Blood Angels were White Dwarf's poster boys for the Space Marines, and there was a major rivalry between Alaitoc and the Angels in their battle reports.
I've invested in Ynnari. You can get a lot of good Eldar shooting even if your faction rules are Melee focused. I don't soup a lot of models actually but it is great to have a lot of options available. My list just has a Troupe Master and a squad of Kabalites! You can also Ynnari plus a patrol of Harlequins not tied to Ynnari limitations on Harlequins. Which does make for quite an interesting force.
I'm finding them really interesting due to being able to take mixed Codex units. Competitiveness means nothing next to the Rule of Cool, and anyway, I'm sick of 9th ed doing everything to discourage/prevent soup.
Hail of Doom and Warding Runes have been serving me well in the games I have played recently. More than one of my opponents was surprised by the power of auto-wounding shurikens and 5+ against mortal wounds.
Not so sleepy in french meta, they are played by high skilled player, who run 10 mans harlequins troupe and give them - 4 ap, and +1 to wound. Wich turns them in incredibly powerful annihilation tool
Eldar are my first army to finally enter the hobby after watching battle reports and this channel for a couple years, the good codex inspired me to finally start playing. I’m thinking of going Biel Tan, I do like their green and white but I’m thinking of using a thousand sons blue and gold theme with white helmets.
Love the video concept. Seems too optimistic about Alaitoc, though. Illic definitely is good, but they really feel like the bottom tier of power, especially since any army with ignore cover completely negates their trait.
I painted mine up a Saim Hann and it’s what I’ve played them as, good or bad, though I’ve been thinking about running Ynnari with a couple fire prisms and the yncarne to get through the invuls of the custodes.
I love Biel-Tan with all my heart, but their WT has a problem - it must be used in the Command phase. Which means, no rerolls after deep strike or disembarking.
Alaitoc is my favourite of the main factions, if only because their fear of the Necron-threat on the opposite side of the galaxy is a great escape from the usual Chaos-this, and Slaanesh-that. Their conflicts with and manipulations of the Imperium along the way is pretty entertaining too
Can anyone clarify: When the Biel Tan Swordwind attribute says re-roll single hit roll per attack, is that per attack of individual models? I.e. if a squad of 10 guardians make 10 attacks firing 20 shots, if you slow rolled them in pairs (2 shots per guardian) you might potentially re-roll 10 misses? If that's so then you would have to slow roll all hits to make best use of the trait - asking because it's not clear to me
Might you be open to exploring an eldar Exodite army build concept? I am attempting to creat one but am a bit stumped as to how to approach this. I like the idea of many mounted eldar riding Dinos :D
I use the Ulthwe rules for my Craftworld Ava-Nile (only ever mentioned in Dawn of War), and they share the same colour scheme with my Drukari as well as being Ynnari lore wise. Just can't bring myself to use those rules though...
I really like Ulthwe it's very versatile. The +1 to cast 5+fnp are great. I think the 6+ invun comes really clutch on vehicles, when you have strands of fate. Reroll 1 wound always nice to have So far haven't tried Biel-tan, but looks very solid, I'd probably need more aspect warriors
I'm an ooooold school Ulthwe guy. Back to 3rd Ed and the original eye of terror codex list. But I'm getting tired of paint armies predominantly black. Too simple. I had some interest in Alaitoc. Have you played the star striders yet?
Hail of Doom is the STRONGEST FFC choice, not only it's gain access to shuriken spam (which is particulary strong now) the most important that's gain u very powerful MORTAL farseer with Kurnow's bow. Just imagine that farseer provide minimum 4 MW only in shooting phase! If u'll play like I said + take some MW spell (Execution + Crushing Orb) u'll destroy ur opponent only with this farseer! BTW, I know that second part is only depend on ur local meta/table, but i Really prefer Masterful Shots now (only because of Armour of Contempt), Children of the open skies ( because it's gain a very strong mobility boost which is very nice looking for some Wraithlords + jetbikes and regular infantry) and Webway warriors ( which is gain access to POWERFUL alphastrikes with Dire Avengers/ Fire dragons embarked in Falcon and deepstriking on turn 1)
@@Warintherealms123 Clearly, even though Hail of doom is really strong, i'm not sure I'd take masterful shots for my second trait, what would you recommend ?
@@loicschreyer1487 I tend to be an infantry heavy player, so I take Warding Runes for that extra bit of survivability. Plus, it's really handy against those lists that just spray MW like water from a hose....
One thing that is not clear to me in the codex is can I have Avatar and Ynnead in one army (in one or separate detachments). My guess is no, but its not clear.
Although I like Ulthwe, I am not found of this version of the craftworld. The hype for ulthwe has been mainly because of the Eldar heavy weapon platforms (especially D canons). They have been compared to Tyranid hive guards, more efficient for less points. Ulthwe is indeed the craftwolrd that synergies the best with this unit (stratagem + trait). Yet the unit is fragile and Eldar do not have the same swarm power as Tyranids to protect those units from being clicked. Ulthwe is becoming a vehicule based craftworld with brightlances to benefit the most from the re-roll wound and 6++ (with strand of fate). Aspect wariors are good in this version, and for this reason I prefer biel-tan. However I'm not sure of the real advantage of the movement boost. With wave serpent, deep strike and, strand of fate, falcon (webway gate ???) I'm not sure we really need this boost. Iyanden as weaker ? army wide Ap reduction of 1 is solid for infantry (I consider AP-3 on light/medium infantry overkill) and even light vehicules. This also makes the gost axe and shield not the obvious choices (as with AP-2 reduced to AP-1 you have the same protection with your basic 3+ with or without shield). Aspect warior benefit from it too !!! To me the armor buff is better than the Alaitoc to hit debuff. Stratagem and are also better. The error, as the unit cost a lot is to try to build an army fully based on wraith. Put a unit on webway strike. Wait for the good moment and... well strike. It's a good alternative to fire dragoons + falcon (the points spent in the falcon are used for wrait and you have a very solid unit instead of squishy 1 wound models)
Most Competetive craftworld is Ulthwe, but I prefere a custom craftworld with hail of doom and masterful shots, 9 bikes with jinx, doom ,guide and exploding 6s can do massive damage on just about anything, -1 dam does hurt though.. or 10 dire avengers , termies in cover, effective 0+ save, averages close to 3 dead termies without buffs,
Most competitive is hail of doom and masterful shots lol. That's what Nanavati used to win the open, it's definitely better than Ulthwe since AOC, as otherwise some AOC matchups (like Tsons for example) can be a bit rough.
Custom haul of doom+masterful shots is filthy. Played it and probably hands down the most strong option. Following that is ulthwe then bieltan. I like playing biel though for that assured 3 in battle focus. As for the craftworld I like, I love the lore and color scheme of Alaitoc. Just wish they were good this edition, but ignore cover and with battle focus, it really isn't good at all.
now with armor of contempt, my oppse all shuriken cannons custom craft world is garbage so what heavy weapons should I take on guardians, dark reapers, wraithlords, and other vehicles?
If not running hail of doom which definitely helps against AoC then going massed scatter lasers is still solid, if I wasn’t going HoD then I’d go Ulthwe with scatter lasers and some bright lances to use Ulthwe wound rerolls. But guide and doom and hail of doom with massed shurikens is just massive AP -3 potential. I would never call shurikens garbage with current rules.
