"Gentlemen, the victory in this war will belong to which of the two belligerents which will be the first to place a gun of 75 [mm] on a vehicle able to be driven on all terrain" - Jean Baptiste Eugène Estienne

    日本軍にこの発想の柔軟さがあれば、もっと自走砲を活用できたであろう。
If the Japanese army had the flexibility of this idea, they would have been able to use more SPGs.

I dont know how the french has such a terrible combat history given the fact that they ALWAYS had developed the mos modern a lethal weapons ever. Since the bronze catridge to the exocet missile....
...i think the trick is not to fight but sell weapons.

      2 really bad experiences (1870, 1940) don't make a trend
2 things: the French is (was, since we took the alliance road after the last culling of Europe) surrounded by countries that were, each at their own moment, global power and, still exist. It say much and in particular, that France record isn't that bad...
now, there are a few problem with France and one is that, it need to be IN the precipice to react and change its way and rebound. Tendency to sleep on their laurels, if one may say so...
But then, when they react and actually mobilize the budget for, they innovate far more than anyone else do, because they understand that they have to throw all preconceived certainties out of the window... when they do that, sclerotic decision maker are pushed aside and new standards that end up adopted by everyone appear...
France did that a few times and basically modernized the way wars are fought each time...
France also did fail monumentally a few time also, but recovered...
the way the race for modernization goes, France influence is far less noticeable, but it could resumed by this: "There are 2 ways to do things. The right way and the wrong way. Then there is the French way." The alternate way to do things results sometime in nonsense, sometime in the future new standard. Where Americans (for example) throw money at a problem to resolve it, French, for the lack of budget, throw brain cells and outside of the box thinking.
System D (démerdes-toi, débrouillardise), = resourcefulness, is a trait French like very much...
