Oh, Roger. I just heard this song for the 1st time, and like all the other listeners who loved Freddie, I am moved to tears. It is a beautiful, beautiful song and a very sweet expression of your love for Freddie. I can only imagine what it must have been like for you and all his loved ones to see him suffer from such a deadly disease and imminent death. It is my understanding that Freddie faced death courageously and without self-pity. I sincerely appreciate all that you and the other members of Queen have done over the past 30 years to keep Freddie's memory alive and to keep performing the awesome music that fans so desperately need and adore.
The original version of this song is on the 2008 album The Cosmos Rocks by Queen + Paul Rodgers - the first verse sung as on this version by Roger, then the 2nd verse sung by Brian, harmony vocals by both of them, and the rest sung by Paul. That was an album a lot of Queen fans dismissed and didn't buy. They really shouldn't have been so quick to discount it though. It's well worth getting hold of if you've never heard it. Here's the original Say it's not True th-cam.com/video/dUBfFh9QovI/w-d-xo.html
Roger, what a beautiful song, captures the emotion and disbelief when Freddie died. I remember the shock when I heard the news on tv. My youngest brother aged 19, became obsessed with Freddie after hearing of his death and played his music a lot. Unfortunately for my family my brother, died unexpectedly a week before Christmas 1991, weeks after Freddie's death. I played my Queen Greatest Hits cassette repeatedly for about a year. I have never felt the same way about Christmas since. I have dreaded it ever since.
Omg! Roger , You did your friend Freddie so good with this dedication! I sitting here in tears, the emotion in your voice is so painful! I've lost friends to this awful disease too and the lyrics are perfect! Im so sorry you , Brian and John lost Freddie, I'm sorry I don't get to know him! I have watched everything I possibly could on the internet, and like so many others I too feel as if I know him on some personal level , Freddie was a lucky , lucky man to have 1 true friend in his short lifetime, but even with all of his money , he had at least 7 that loved him without condition! That is what made him a truly rich man!! It makes my heart so happy to know that all 7 of you circled the wagons and protected our sweet , gentle Freddie! Who wanted nothing more to love and be loved! Thank you aĺl for sharing him with us , as painful as it seems for the 3 of you , you keep on keeping on making sure dear Freddie is never forgotten! ! You truly are such wonderful gentlemen for allowing us into your personal studio time and showing us your human side! I say this because to me and I'm sure so many others, you were not just mere mortals, you were Rock God's!! And still are!! Love you Roger and Brian!! ( and John ) ♡♥♡
@Roger Taylor solo Thank you so much for this absolutely beautiful song!! What a wonderful tribute to our beloved Freddie!! I am so grateful for the music of Queen each and every day. You all helped me beat breast cancer and for that I will be forever in your debt. Id give ANYTHING to see you play live so if youre ever in the USA close to Indiana, please let me know alright?!! Much much love!!Your #OneFan in the 🇺🇸.
OMG What an amazingly beautiful song. In 2017, my husband of 31 years nearly passed away with heart problems. Being together for 35 years, it was so tough. I thought I would be left alone. I wish I had heard this song at the time, but now in 2019, it really stands true for me. I have had to think of the future, so I am planning my funeral. Roger, I would be honoured if my Children and Grandchildren could play it at my Cremation with the other Queen songs. Thank you xxx Dee
First time I have heard this. Roger, this was so beautiful. It got me right in the heart. I never wanted it to end! LOVE YOU, Roger! Really, love YOU! It was for Freddie...we know! What you all went through! Here you are keeping him and all of Queen alive. You will always have US!
Very powerful great job Roger, Saw Queen November 1977 Boston Garden You truly never get over a loss you just do your best to make it through another day
Each time I listen to this song, I cry. Every word express exactly what I feel. Nobody “knows the sense of his leaving”. Thanks to you and Brian for your great job since Freddie left us, you make him still alive
Thank you Roger and Jeff for such a beautiful tribute to Freddie. I wish it would all go way and Freddie would still be with us. I fall to pieces when I listen to this. Love you xx RIP dear Freddie...missing you so much. xx
Oh, man. Queen fan since '73, the image of Roger in my head will always be the Pretty Boy, the Party Boy. It's heartbreaking to see this photo of him looking so sorrowful and hearing him almost literally crying out the pain of his loss of his friend Freddie. God bless you Roger, and Brian and John. We all miss Freddie, but none of us can really fathom how much the 3 of you do and always will. ❤️❤️❤️ 💛
O.M.G.what an emotional I felt with an amazing voice and a beautiful song hearing early in the morning.Gosh I've had a teary eyes.Thank you Roger Queen Taylor.I still love you.

I can’t stop listening to this. I discovered it like three days ago, listened to it over 10 times. Thanks Roger Taylor for making such beautiful music!
Such a magnificent and moving song... The music, lyrics, vocals are really splendid... and Jeff Beck's magnificent guitar tone and playing : the icing on the cake. But it's hard not to be sad when listening to it....
I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like he's describing, not just his, but also John's, Brian's, Mary's, and Jim's coping methods in this song.
I had the privilege to hear you sing this live, and it rattled my very soul. It was the Hyde Park gig after the London bombings. I was on the trains coming in to London to see you, when the bombings took place, and came again to the rescheduled gig, and the sun shone down on us and all that love and defiance in the face of hatred... it is an indelible memory for me. This is more prescient now than ever, thank you Rog. Xxx
I ha e this song on my favorites playlist. It’s the most beautiful song ever written. I know it was for Freddie but I think of my beloved best friend who died of AIDS, too, and it touches me right in the heart every time. Thank you for posting.
I always felt Roger had an extremely sensitive voice, love it
