    Love it.
    While ' detailers' are shouting and laughing ,the other 99% of car owners can relate to this level of detailing.
    Nothing nicer than seeing 1scratch disappearing,and cleaning around badges (I have even broken out the cotton buds) is satisfying.

    Top tip, use grit guards in the bottom of the buckets and rub the mitt on them. Also try shooting the nozzle into the bucket with some shampoo, makes great suds!

    When my family come to visit (3 daughters) I always check their cars to see if a wash is needed. If they need a wash it's out with the power washer and if i have time maybe a bit of wax. Hate to see a dirty car. I'm glad to see the old girl finally got a bath.😄

I've had neighbours comment that look like new after cleaning and have given some to try. So glad you bought the Volvo. Always loved the shape of the 740 and 760. I bought my first, a 9 year old 1999 V70 with 105,000 on it. I put another 140,000 on it and bought a 2006 V70 with 134,000 and towed my caravan from Ireland through England to France, Belgium and Holland with it at 164,000. Their values may never be anywhere near to BMWs or Mercedes's but they are actually better cars in my opinion. Parts are not expensive either. Someone is still actually driving my old 1999 one.

    The old girl looks beautiful, proving the old cliche about how you can polish a profit into a car. Take that to a Volvo owners meet and it would attract interest. I'm old enough to remember when every Sunday afternoon would feature blokes out in the garden/drive/street cleaning and polishing the motor. It is an incredibly satisfying and therapeutic activity, men need to rediscover the rewarding activity of cleaning the car. Don't be a lazy so and so, don't take it down to the local car wash, do it yourself.
    You will find yourself incredibly engaged and satisfied by cleaning the old girl and making her look like the day you drove her away from the dealership/trader/private owner (delete as applicable). You won't get the same sense of satisfaction, peace, or oneness with the world from expensive BS therapeutic "remedies" out there as you will from cleaning your car. The guru has spoken. Salah!

  • @MegAndJas
    @MegAndJas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video and you have done a fantastic job. It's also a testament to the original quality of the Volvo paint! My two tips would be scrap the Karcher snow foam bottle and get a far superior one for not too much money which will lay the snow foam on much, much thicker and use grit guards in your buckets which has been previously suggested :)

    Although the bumper turned out beautiful, those solutions usually only last for a week or so. You should try using a heat gun, it makes the bumper (front and rear) factory black. Go over the whole bumber and keep the nozzle of the gun real close (a bit tedious). But it can only be used on the bumpers, trim etc are ruined by the heat.

  • @ronbeton1999
    @ronbeton1999 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For the bumpers and black plastics I recommend Motip Bumper Black. Did it on my 940, and you never need to redo them.

    I'm making a note of your equipment and techniques here. I'm working on a 2008 Chrysler 300c right now and despite it being a lot younger, the paintwork and trim is probably in a similar condition to your car. But hey, It's an American car. They have nothing on the swedes making what I like to call everyday tanks like these Volvos.

    When Volvo switched to water-based paint they had huge rust issues for some years especially on metallics (early 80s). This is towards the time they started to get top grips with it. My 1982 360 GLT rotted horribly, the 1988 340 was less bad, and the 1991 940 was bomb-proof.

      I do like a clay bar and use them quite alot - I did my daily C250 as soon as I got it and it made it look so much better the dealer could have added several hundred to the price if he had first! In this case the cutting compound was harsh enough not to worry

    Maybe that bent bumper can be saved now that you made it shine, there's a metal beam underneath the plastic that I think is bent out of shape and holds the plastic shell bent too. It shouldn't be too hard to straighten the metal and thus make it straight again. Earlier Volvo had a kind of shockabsorbers as mountingpoints, later on I think those where swapped to metal beams with crumplingzones. I wonder what type your 740 has?

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your Volvo looks awesome! At some point I want to tackle the paint on my old Peugeot 306 2.0 XSi Ph2 (1999), which I bought used in late 2016. I'd like a bit of advice on using rotating polisher tools on flaking clear coat, which has continued to flake a lot since I got it, along with some of my bit too aggressive Karchering with water, which possibly went through the primer on the bonnet, so that might be rusting a little now. However despite all this I can see the paint is good quality, and if anything like my first 306 which had "solid paint" then it will look half decent once cut and polished.

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you've got flaking clear coat its better to get very fine wet and dry (1200, and work to 2000 grit) and rub it back to a smooth edge, polish or cut the surrounding paint and re-lacquer it

    Superb work. Looks like new. Make me want to get to work on my 2007 XC90!

    There are three things you can do with any older car to make it look a lot better, and often neglected. Wheels, Glass, Number Plates. I almost always change the number plates for nice new ones (same number!) and it can make a massive difference to the overall appearance of a car. Wheels and Glass are more obvious. Also, for the finishing touches badges and lenses.. I have seen a cars appearance spoiled by faded badges and turn lenses. Serious Volvo fans replace the badge on the front with prancing moose... well at least the ones with a sense of humour.

      I like new plates they do make it look fresh, but these are the original dealer plates so in this case Id like to keep them
