Introduction and translation:
Fakir Lalon Shah (Bengali: ফকির লালন শাহ, also known as Lalon Shah; c. 1774--1890)
This is a Sufi song from the district of Kushtia, situated in the north western region of present - day Bangladesh. These lyrics and many others were composed by the legendary Lalon Shah, the tune was also scored by him and the song was originally sung by him. These are called Lalon Geetis after his name. Since then many Fakirs and Bauls (who sing devotional songs) sung these songs over a period of centuries.
Shomoy Gele - English Translation:
If the time runs out (passes by) there will be no self achievement or (spiritual) or enlightenment.
Why did you not care to (or did not learn to) do the practice of self enrichment in time?
O my mind, don't you know that if all the waters dries out in the pond in the lagoons, the fish does not stay there anymore!
What good is it erecting a barrage on the river mouth (Estuary or the place where the
river meets the sea) if it is all dry!
What good it is putting in your futile labour for nothing in cultivating, doing an untimely farming! Even if the plants grow by virtue of strong seed, there will be no harvest (no fruit) !
If a day comes up when the full moon rises on the day of the dark moon, that will be the day of the final destruction. Lalon says that at that time there will not be a single moment for that (Shadhon).

She enjoyed singing that song, and her team definitely enjoyed playing the music for her. Many people here have complained about many parts about this music. If you wanted a perfect same song you could have searched and listen to others, but no, you had to listen to this imperfect song and had to complain. Here many people loves to listen to music, but only some know how to sing. When you sing on your own and there are good musicians playing musics in background and all are just happy to enjoy this magical moment playing out is the main charm of a music. For the listeners they can switch into another whenever they want.. sadly, many people will never understand how divine it feels when your voice matches the tunes playing in the background. It's like dancing in the raining for who knows how to dance in the first place.

She is a great singer and the instruments went well too.. but I do agree with you on the pa ra pi ri 😂 it just goes too far musically and does not blend well. But the rest is so good I just tolerate that part 😅
Nice rendition... but the pronunciation errors are too stark to avoid. Please try to correct them. Otherwise it's a great performance of the well-known song.

it was Bengali in the beginning then became British, the voice is there but nothing else really. if i played an instrumental version of this, i wouldn't get the bengoli thing... gazaal, kawali but the indie gunge of baul is not there. too corporate. but the pearl is in the oyster.

Need to be careful about pronunciation. Its not 'shadon', its 'shadhon.
She is an British - Bangladeshi and she was born in Britain. So undoubtedly she has some problems of bengali pronunciation.
I dont care if she is British or African. If she is singing Bangla, she should sing it properly.

May be you don't care, so what? I respect her a lot, she tried to singing a legendary bengali song & represent our folk music in London. Many of us don't speak bengali correctly as well.

বাংলা উচ্চারণে অনেক ভুল আছে, কিন্তু কন্ঠ টা অসাধারন.... সিলেটি গান গাইতে হলে সিলেটি ভাষা ভাল করে রপ্ত করতে হবে।
