Hey Lou, great video that brings back memories for me. Back in those days my Uncle Leo had a used car lot and liked fast cars. At one point he bought a white '56 Chyrsler 300 B with twin quads and a French made three speed manual transmission. My Dad, being an Oldsmobile dealership mechanic, rebuilt the carburetors for my Uncle and installed a new clutch. Both my Uncle and Dad were 1950's "Gearheads", and would street race whenever the opportunity was there. My Dad having a hopped up '57 Olds Super 88 raced Leo a few times with the 300 from a roll. The Olds would pull the Chrysler to about 60 mph, then that refrigerator white 300 would blow by us, never to be caught. Unfortunately, Leo made the mistake of leaving the 300 on the lot one night, and it was gone; found a few days later minus the drive train. After that he would come over our house with some nice cars to trade my Dad for the '57. Thanks again for another excellent video.

First American car with a 300hp factory rating since Duesenberg in 1928. These cars dominated Nascar in the mid 50s. Many people, myself included, say these were the first American muscle car. Some say the 49 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 was the first. I disagree because the Rocket 88 only had a 180hp factory rating...high for 1949 but not my idea of muscle car numbers. Absolutely beautiful early Mopar muscle car

Hi, Lou! Just as this 300 makes Todd young again, the "Forward Look" that Chrysler Corporation adopted in 1955 suddenly made its cars look young in comparison to their predecessors, which were often viewed as dull. GM had typically been the style leader for most of the history of the industry, but the "Forward Look" had changed that for a time, especially when the '57s were introduced. GM didn't take it lying down and regained its accustomed style leader role after the tailfin fad ran its course.
Thanks for giving me the link to this video. I hope Todd is still staying young with this car now!

Thanks… great Classic the 300s…. Ps: I like the early STUDEBAKERS TOO. ESP the “ special “ Hawk *GT,Golden* & leading into “ STUDEBAKER Avanti “ times… Interestingly, we stayed away from 51/53 , point Nosed, Studebakers due to bad rusting out in NORTHERN INDIANA,ETC. I remember my Great Aunt’s Daughter traded her HAWK(?? Kind if flashy ) in fior a 57 THUNDERBIRD PORTHOLE (* She lived IN S BEND, INDIANA) ;; notable even then ……

The first American muscle car along with the Dodge D-500. First American car to make 300 horsepower since Duesenberg in 1928. Some say the 49 Olds Rocket 88 was the first muscle car but they were only rated at 180 horsepower from the factory. They were fast for their day but no match for the 55 Chrysler 300

6:11...That looks like a single chamber master cylinder (M/C). One of my rare compromises to originality would be to install a dual chamber M/C. If your brakes lose juice while driving with a dual chamber M/C, you only lose half your brakes. But with a single chamber, you lose ALL your brakes. I lost brake fluid ("juice") on the freeway once. If my truck had a single chamber M/C, I don't think I'd be here to tell you this. I believe the US govt required dual chamber M/Cs on all new vehicles sold in the US, beginning with the 1967 model year. Besides, if the car gets wrecked, that would destroy all it's originality.

They were good for their time...not so good by todays standards. They are four wheel drums with a single cylinder master, so stopping quickly is virtually impossible. I have three 1955 Chryslers and am currently looking to do a disc brake conversion on one to make it a daily driver.

I found some interesting info: 55 300C could do 0-60 in 9 seconds, quarter mile 76.84 (no time) and top speed 130MPH. It weights over 4,500 LBS! For comparison a 1955 Chevy Bel Air power pack 4BBL and dual exhaust could do 0-60 in 9.7 seconds, quarter mile 77 @ 17.4 and weighs 3165 LBS.
