    What you should try is using a plastic cup and make a small hole where you can put the aircleaner pipe without any wasps flying out of the hole and then close the nest inside of the cup, then spray them down without any wasps escaping/attacking you.

    These bee/wasp videos are always entertaining to watch.
    If you are seriously just wanting to get rid of a wasp nest step one is to locate the wasp nest or nests during the daylight hours and then leave them alone till later. Next wait till 11:00P, go out armed with a flashlight/head lamp and wasp spray to known wasp locations and spray them. By doing it this way, you get them all because they are all home.
    Done deal.
    Go back inside watch a movie, go to bed, and sweep them up in the morning.
    Life is good.

    I know a bug guy who used to remove these pests from houses at night. You get a stick and a flashlight; you make sure you are not standing under the nest, and you just knock it down. It does help if you have a bright porch light or bug zapper nearby (but not too close), as the wasps will be drawn away from you. Ants will usually destroy the nest if you leave it on the ground. If you do this once a month, you will be wasp-free for the most part. They will return, but they are insects, so this is a given.

    Few tips if you want to use the air can to kill wasps.
    As you could probably figure out, have at least two fingers pinching the pipe so it doesn't fly out like that.
    Second, start your spray low. Aim below your intended target, pull the trigger, then readjust the spray up. This is because there is an air front that might push the bugs away before the refrigerant hits them.
    The tricky part is to determine how much to pull the trigger and what distance. It doesn't have much of a range but closer usually means faster freeze but less area. It doesn't have to be on full blast to freeze either and may even end up blowing the bugs away due to the pressure.
    Last tip is to restrict the targets to small prey. Small wasp nests like those or maybe fast bugs you can't seem to catch are good. Don't go for medium or big nests as the spray will not affect the entire thing in time. The only exception is the enclosed wasp nests and only if everyone is inside; then spray the entrance (don't stick the pole in and spray into it as the guys near the front will be least affected and fly out).
    Happy hunting.

    I used my favorite method... hairspray and a lighter, with small bursts of flames that singe their wings off. From there, they're harmless little targets on the ground for larger bursts of flames. You just have to be careful not to burn everything else around the nest, or set anything on fire.

    Those look like invasive European paper wasps. They arrived about 25 years ago and have spread all over the eastern US. They started nesting everywhere around my house several years ago. Last year, not so many. This year none at all. They almost displaced the common brown Northern wasp. I seldom find them now. Hoping something native started controlling them. I live in Connecticut, so maybe it's different where you are. Enjoyed your video!

    Not sure what the problem is. I have wasp nests all over the place with absolutely no worries. They get used to you if you don't act the fool. I have sat next to a wasp nest for many hours at a time reading books. Not once was I accosted.

    • @pH7oslo
      @pH7oslo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't have a problem sharing my garden with bees and wasps either - you leave them alone, they leave you alone. Only problem is if they land on your food while you're eating it (they seem to love jam on buttered toast) and you fail to notice.
      If I want to get rid of a nest, I prefer convincing them to move rather than killing them. They build their nests where they keep dry, so all you have to do is use the garden hose and "let it rain". After you've done that a few times they find somewhere drier to build their nests.

    • @JACKnJESUS
      @JACKnJESUS 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @rogue.red.dragon

    If you want to freeze them go to the auto parts store and buy a can of brake cleen. works great on wasps and bees. It comes out as a fluid and soaks then but it is also designed for rapid evaporation which happens so fast the draws the heat from their body and they drop like a rock. I and most guys I know keep a can handy around the shop specifically for wasps.

  • @sorensenscott
    @sorensenscott 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    get some spray adhesive from your local hardware store, just what ever is cheap/clear. All you need to do is spray a small amount on the nest. The ones that are there that get sprayed will have their wings stuck together and can't fly. The ones that return then get stuck to the nest. I have used this for years and you do not even need to run away or even worry about getting stung once they can't fly.

    I've found that "identifying" the nests in the daytime and then going out after dark with the Wasp 15' spray works extremely well... they are all "at home" so you get ALL of them and they don't come flying after you as in the daytime. For what it's worth!

  • @Peorhum

    Night time if often the best time to deal with wasps. Odd you have so many wasps moving in. You have a bird bath or fish pond near by, wasp drink a lot of water? Or a source of food for them that keeps them moving in like that? The answer maybe getting rid of the water and or food sources near by. That said they could be eating worse pests around your area.

    We got a nearby tree filled with wasps the size of a thumb. Taking them at day or night is suicide because once you hurt one it sends out a panic signal and you get a cloud of those coming in. Killed one in the house, couldn't go outside for a few hours.

    What about using a propane flame? It would toast the hives instantly. If you are careful the house wouldn't catch fire although it might get scorched.

    I don't know if it would work or not but somebody was saying that if you crush up a big paper grocery bag in the shape of a hornet's nest and place in a visible corner of your home, it would deter wasps from nesting anywhere near it because it looks to them like a predator's nest so they avoid it like the plague. I don't know the effectiveness of this but if it does work, it would be a very cheap alternative to wasp sprays and exterminators.

    Gotta use brake part cleaner. Dries them out so fast they turn crispy before they hit the ground.

    Can you show one where you use an stunner gun and zap the hive to electrocute the wasps? That would be cool to see and learn.

    I think just freezing them will not kill them. After freezing you will have to make a secondary kill to the frozen wasp. I would suggest a Co2 extinguisher, more bang for the buck. Lots of ammo on target at once. A funnel nozzle style should just about cover the nest. Happy hunting. Dawn Dish soap and water in spray bottle works best of and thing I have used.

    Okay for a minute I thought that you were going to totally freeze the wasps with the air spray until that darn straw came out! XD

    "Those things are not happy, ohh this is a bad idea..." *shoot the nest with the salt gun again*

    Try a healthy squirt or around a tablespoon on Dawn dish soap per gallon water in your garden sprayer. Works just like Raid or whatever at the store. Dawn dissolves the wax on their bodies and they suffocate. Knocks them down like you hit them with Raid and a heck of a lot cheaper...

    evening is always best no matter the method, this way all wasps are back on the nest. fun to see all the different approaches.

    I have used that exact same spray. I have about 3 cans I keep. I don't play but a really fun one is a pressure washer with a wide tip. That's how I got most down.

    best solution? shopvac with a long hose.
    a water hose on jet works good too, they'll abandon the nest soon after you blast it down.

    Light a lighter, and then blow through it with your duster can. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy, however. Also you might try to just use the extinguisher to start with.

    In case you didn't already do it always crush the nests by stomping on them and squishing them because of the larvae.

    Soapy water does the trick too. Using a garden sprayer so you don't have to get close.

    Plain soap and water works good also. The soap is lipid soluble. It dissolves their exoskeleton.

    It was a lot of laughs watching you some advice come back to see if the spray actually killed them. Its been noticed fly spray doesn't do it any more they drop to the ground spin around get up all groggy then recover fully.

    mechanic's know this..but one of the best instant killers of wasps is brakleen. . brake parts cleaner ..the old bad for you clorinated type is best, they literally die mid air and instantaneously.. not the best range but the straw helps so does using a thumb tac or drill to open up the orifice on the nozzle a bit for more flow/range

    Wasp spray on sale at ACE this week. One can at night would have killed all your nests.
