General Samuel R Curtis

Samuel R Curtis is one of the American Civil War’s forgotten generals, but he was the victor in two of the most important battles of the war. In this talk Dr Kyle Sinisi of The Citadel in Charleston, who is currently working on a biography of Curtis, explains why he has largely been ignored. This is the first of a series of lectures from The American Civil War Round Table UK’s 2022 Conference ‘War in the Trans-Mississippi’ which we will be publishing here.

His son Samuel Stephen Curtis and I carry many similar facial features. I know my great grandfather had changed our last name to Curtiss at some point. I believe the 1930s?
