We were cleaning my Grandmother's house during rennovation and I found at least 8 or so shuttles. Some we know belonged to my Great-Grandmothers and some to my Grandmother. Some date back from the late 1800s, early 1900s. Grandmother has dimentia so she isn't able to show us how to carry on with this beautiful gifting. Thank you for these videos. My mom, sisters, aunts, nieces, and cousins plan to have crafting nights to try and keep things like this alive in our family and a vital part of our heritage and legacy.
Hi Vicki. Oh that makes me smile when I hear what you and your family is doing to continue with tradition. I have other channels out that will help you learn easier how to tat. I do all the videos for Georgia Seitz online classes. I will share the links to those channels with you. During your adventure in this please feel free to ask questions as they come up. I do wish you all the best and wished I could join you in this. It sounds like so much fun. thank you for your tatting tutorials and all the hard work that goes into making these videos, thanks to your informative well explained videos, I learned how to wind my bobbin, attach it to my shuttle, do the ring, and learn how to make stitches and get them even, all in a matter of hours, and I've never tatted before, and I'm very grateful
Thank you very much and Happy Tatting. I do also make the videos for Georgia Seitz online classes and those are free to all that want to learn. You can join us as well if you would like. Contact Georgia at aktatter@aol.com. She will get you signed up and ready for the fall classes in Sept. You will be able to converse with some of the most well known designers around. PS I look forward to more vids in the tatalong series. Your vids on jewelry making have inspired me to get back in to hem work and beading. Happy holidays and tatting.
Great information here. I needle tatt and use size 10 Lydia thread & it's great to work with. I have tried J.P. Coats and it was horrible to tatt with. I will stay with Aunt Lydia.
My favorites are Lizbeth and DMC cebelia, for needle tatting the Lydia works good, the one I hate is the DMC pearl cotton.. that thread always breaks when I pulled for rings and gets fuzzy if I remove stitches...
Hi, thank you for what you said in the beginning of the video. As a blind tatter I had no idea about the pictures on a monitor. I always thought the photo showed the actual size of something. This makes me feel a whole lot better knowing the playing field is a bit more level. The way you explain things has given me the courage to keep going. I'll watch these over and over till I get it right and my tatting looks lovely. I'm a crocheter as well, oh and a lace knitter I think I'll get a moonlight shuttle and a tatsy. I've got a tatting chatelain which I'm happy wit. Happy tatting. Tiffany
Hi Tiffany. Thank you for making my day. Your kind words brought a smile to my face and a song to my heart. People like you are the reason these videos came about. I am working with the teacher of the beginners tatting class that Georgia Seitz sponsors in doing these videos. We decided some time last year I believe to make these because of the limited supply of detailed videos to new tatters. I do have some new ones coming out by the end of the week showing some advanced techniques you will be able to do. Also hopefully if everything continues to work out the way it has I will be doing a video tat along and you will be tatting a doily that has all the beginner techniques in it. I am still in the designing phase of that but it is coming along nicely. I want people to know they can do this and it isn't as complicated as it seems. The tat along will be done for both the needle and shuttle tatters as 2 seperate video series. I hope you will join me and watch the tat along. If you are subscribed it should let you know as soon as the first of the series is released. Thank you again and Happy Tatting to you as well :)
I'll stick around to see what comes next. In the mean time there are a couple blind friendly sites I can check out where I might find another nonvisual tatter.I'm also looking in to getting a full tatting setup with filiment loops and a proper tatting bag a couple starlight shuttles, those are the ones with the hook right? And my aunt is sending me some steel hooks for my crochetin. Thank you for all your hard work on behalf of beginner tatters like me. Tiffany.
Great Tiffany!!!! The shuttles your talking about are called moonlit shuttles. The startlight shuttles have a very big pick on the end to use to join. Most all tatters that buy those with that kind of pick cut off the pick because with smaller threads like size 20 it makes the picots stretch out. Also you have to make very large picots to even get the pick into it to pull the thread up. The Sunlit shuttles have a smaller plastic pick on them like the clovers do. I just like the crochet hook type of pick on the shuttle. That way your smaller picots look like they are supposed to and don't get distorted by the pick. Hope that helps. Happy Tatting.
yes you can. You don't always have to use 2 shuttles however some techniques will require 2 shuttles. One being a split ring. It can be difficult to use a ball of thread. Hope that helps you. Happy Tatting
it will help however the thread you use has a lot to do with stiffness of a piece as well as how tight you tat. There are many factors pertaining to stiffening. These are just a few.
@@priclix Yes. Lizbeth from Handy Hands is really a high quality thread for tatting especially needle tatters. Any nylon or polyester thread will work as well. Those are my go to threads depending on what the pattern is used for.
Hi, I haven't had much luck with the online tatting class, one reason being I am not able to login since the last IOS update and also the class is very dependent on photos. Problem three is the intatters site became craftree and all the tatters who were very helpful before aren't on there these days. Getting tatting explained in a non visual way is also quite difficult as I have been unable to find a blind tatter who is a bit ahead of me to explain what should be happening to the work in my hand. I can make rings and chains and nice looking picots if there aren't too many in a ring I've got a nice chain of split rings, several simple butterflies, one ring and chain snowflake, and one chain upon chain rosette. I was able to do this because of the guidance from intatters and the vid you did on split rings. i I feel locked out of the tatting world at the moment and can't find the way back in. DO you know of any other blind tatters? Nancy Tracy and the tatsaway blog have the best and most clearly written patterns I have been able to find. I love the tatting section of MrsBeeton's needlework book. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Tiffany.
Hi Tiffany, I am glad you liked the tat along. As far as the classes goes next year the classes are going to have for their access only videos for the class done by yours truly. I am working with Cynthia currently to re-design the whole layout of the classes as well as an online forum very similar to the intatters group but a tad bit more secure as so the only people to be able to access donated patterns by designers for the class are in the classes and part of the group. Next year promises to be a very exhilarating year for the beginners classes. I will have Cynthia send you all the information once it is all set up. We are out for winter break until the 19th of January. During that time many changes are coming. I do hope you will check us out with all the new trimmings. I will post a link here on the main page of the channel. I will also be working with some designers next year for new patterns to share on this channel. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

I like to work with Aunt lydia in needle but not on shuttles, for shuttles I prefer lizbeth thread.
Can I use thread from ball while tatting like making bracelet or earrings? If I use two colors do I use two shuttles?
