For anyone wondering, the war planchet will be one that contains the 35% silver. The reason the 1946 nickel featured is worth $9k is because it was supposed to be stuck on a non-silver planchet but was instead struck on a 35% silver war planchet. How to tell the difference? Maybe weight or magnetic resistance. Unfortunately the presenter of the video does not provide the information.

    • @jamaraquai4224

It’d be nice if you showed a non-error 1946 for comparison. You showed 42-45 with mint marks above the monument saying that makes them part silver but the $9k one doesn’t have that. How do you tell if it’s struck on a war planchet?

I have 2- 1946 and 1 looks different then other- I’m trying my best to understand all this but it’s so difficult I wish I had a lil more understanding ( me getting it) I still need something to weigh the coins& place them in( using a plastic bags for ones I think maybe worth something) this channel definitely gives best knowledge- I’m just dumb at getting it! Hope I hit big 1 day! Lol

If you have anything at all it's more likely to be a Henning nickel then a 1946 on a silver planchet. Look at the R on pluribus. If it's a Henning nickel you'll see a hole or gouge at the bottom of the R

    • @darthsilversith667

I've collected coins for over 50 years, and have found to know that I know about as much as anyone on this subject. Five grams is the intended weight for ALL Jefferson nickels, no matter what the composition of metals. Wear, damage, or a light planchet (which should've been culled before reaching the mint, are about the only reasons for a coin being underweight.

    • @thomasharvill5459
      @thomasharvill5459 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

On the overweight side of this subject, planchets that were sent to the mint (regardless of the mints location) which also should've also been culled before being minted.
There is an ever so slight weight tolerance/allowance both ways. I believe it to be plus or minus 2 to 3 HUNDREDTHS.
NOW THE INFO YOU SEEK! LOL! There are at least THREE WAYS that I know about to find out the composition of a coin without causing damage to it. We certainly wouldn't want that to happen!
      1. A specific gravity test.
      2. By using a SIGMA machine.
      3. Pinging/sounding.
Do some reading on these three.
I hope this helps. Take care!

I have a 1946 D nickel that looks suspiciously like it may have been struck on a silver planchet. But a simple and definitive test is hard to come by as the particular silver alloy used was chosen so that the silver planchet would have the same weight as the "normal" one. Any suggestions?

    • @darthsilversith667

X-ray diffraction device will non-destructively tell you if silver is present, but it is expensive so only a coin shop, pawn shop or bullion dealer can justify purchasing one.

I very much disagree with the grade that PCGS gave that coin. With the obvious GOUGES on both the obverse and reverse there is no way that coin could have straight graded. Probably slightly over graded as well and should have been designated as "VG Details" at best.

The best thing you could do is send them pennies to a reputable company that will grade the penny and tell you what it's worth that's the only way to get full value..💰 Because China is making a lot of counterfeit Morgan dollars and other coins destroying the industry on purpose.. you can weigh them on a scale if you have one or you can go on eBay and compare prices of what you have..They could go from $5 dollars to $2,000 or more it all depends if they are double die or DDO also..Alot of counterfeit coins and prices on eBay..👉🏻👀💰👨‍💻👈
