    You might try running the discharge hose into the other sink so that all you have to do is run cold water in the first

      I've changed stills since this video and invented a smart still controller system. See this TH-cam short video. th-cam.com/users/shortsey3eZ-AycLk

      That would be another reason why I got rid of that big ugly monster still and replaced it with a T-500 system. If you check out my smart still controller videos I've uploaded lately, my still has a nice hiding place behind a door in my laundry room.

    Just started to get into distilling and am loving the vids. Very simple and concise, exactly what I need. Used to live in Scottsbluff... cool to see a Cornhusker distilling.

    I had to watch your vido again it is very good , I would like to ask you when you start with water do you add the sugar when you start

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the first video in this playlist actually shows when I added it. But, ever since I discovered liquid high temperature enzymes, I don't even bother with the sugar anymore, no reason to. Those cheap powdered versions of amalayse don't fully convert all of the starches like the high temp liquid ones do.

    Im planning to make about 20l mash with ground corn which is available near my store.. how much corn would i need ? and if i supplement some corn with sugar... is there any way the sugar content can be to high? eg a bad taste from the liquour or something like that?
    thanks

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want to make sure that it's cracked corn unless you have a mill to grind whole corn. You'll also want to be sure to have amalayse enzyme to convert the corn starch to sugar or you'll just end up making nothing more than corn starch flavored sugar wash and you'll just cake up the inside of your boiler with starch. As for too much sugar, yes it is possible to have too much. You will need a brix refractometer or a triple scale hydrometer to read the amount of sugar or "specific gravity". Try not to go over 21.5 brix or 1.090 on the specific gravity because your alcohol level can actually go high enough to kill your yeast.
      Here's a video that covers why you don't want to just make corn starch flavored sugar wash. th-cam.com/video/1gREO7d0eD0/w-d-xo.html

    Did you let the methanol go into the parrot, and catch it with the bowl after that? Or do you catch it before the parrot? The parrot I am familiar with does not have the air gap from the still.

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are a common parrot, the only type I've seen. The output of the still feeds the parrot from the bottom->up and it overflows into the jar.

    Still liking the videos !! These are done in a way that a complete novice will gain some understanding of what and how distilling is done. Just a couple of points of clarification -- water boils at 212 not 200, or 100c. Probably a simple misspeak. The condenser that you called a shot gun condenser is a Liebig condenser and in the instance or your still, is an extension of the Lyne arm. Nice still by the way, Brewhaus by chance ?? Brewhaus makes very nice stuff, as does my favorite, Mile-Hi. Keep up the great work. -- den
    PS. Just a caution to newbies, be very careful when using " aquarium charcoal " . Make sure there are no additives or treatments that can leech into your spirit. There is plenty of information in the forums as to what size activated carbon granules are best for spirit filtration, and how to prepare the carbon for use.

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, water will boil at different temperatures based on your altitude, but I'm not concerned with absolute specifics. I'm not even running a channel here for any other reason than to provide some instructions for my cousin, I have no idea why people would be subscribing to this channel because it's just here for sharing private videos with my greenhouse customers.
      The condenser was listed as a shotgun condenser in the website product listing, so that's all I'm going by.

      @@PanhandlePonics Absolutely correct ! 212F is at sea level ( 29.92 mm/Hg ). I just didn't want people to think that you had to shut down a run at 200 because of too much water vapor getting into the distillate.
      No worries on the condenser, I just wanted you to know it had a name. You will come across condensers with more that one tube encased in the jacket, but I haven't seen one on a small still. It doesn't take that much cooling to knock down the vapor in small stills. Often time these condensers will be called " shot gun " condensers.
      As far as why people would follow you, well, because you did a excellent job with your 5 videos on mashing in and distilling !!! You should be proud, and your cousin got a pretty good education if he paid attention. Thank you from all of us for a great series !! -- den

    I heard somebody say that as soon as it quits bubble and you need to run it or bad stuff can happen you could lose alcohol or I could turn the vinegar

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not any of that is true. The only way you could lose alcohol content is if it evaporates and that can't happen unless you leave it open to the air. As for turning into vinegar, the chances of you having the correct type of bacteria floating in the air to do that is almost nil. Whomever told you this stuff has no idea what they're talking about or how any of this works.

    Do you rinse the stuff in the brew bag?

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I ferment on the grain. These days I ferment in a 10 gallon insulated cooler and just transfer everything, including the brew bag over to it.

    Can you provide a brand name or other detail about the airstill? I see prices from $90 to $300. Can I use just a water distiller?
    Thanks for your wonderful videos!! Learning a lot.

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The one that I got is no longer available, but there are plenty of others out there that would be an equivalent. You want one that you can adjust the temperature on because one that distills water only will run too hot and you'll get too much water in your distillate.

      No, I don't even understand why anybody would want to do that. Then again, I also don't understand why people do a lot of things to complicate stuff. If the old moonshiners never did it and major operations like Jim Beam don't do it, then I also don't see any reason to.

    So if you distill it all instead of cutting. Then, distill it again..Is it all safe to drink?

    • @PanhandlePonics
      @PanhandlePonics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's how they do it in a commercial distillery, especially in vodka distilleries. That thing with cuts is just a hobbyist thing, they don't have people in commercial distilleries standing around and tasting cuts.

    • @LordLarryWho
      @LordLarryWho ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll notice in a lot of videos from Still-It, Jesse throws heads, tails, cuts, into other batches that he distills. So the answer to your question is yes, you can always clean things up by redistilling them.
