I probably can't change your mind, but I have to disagree with the DC DBG not being thematic. It's very thematic, just in a different way, than say, Marvel Legendary. While Legendary is thematic on an overall gameplay sense, DC truly shines with the cards. A large majority of the cards fit the effect on them extremely well. But that's just my two cents, Deck builders are pretty much the last genre that I can really get immersed with the theme on.
Can you review the new Crisis pack 3? I read that they addressed some of the length issues, and also added some new mechanics that I'm curious about. I want to like this game again,.. just recently played Legendary and really liked how simple it is in that there just isn't an much to read and figure out, versus, as much as I love the various cards in the DCDBG, it makes the game much more drawn out and complicated cause players have so much to read and figure out during a turn that yes it does kinda make it agonizing, and on top of that, the theme issues. I had worked on a version of the game that made the competitive more like a dueling game and makes it much more thematic, but haven't finalized the mechanics, and it's co-opertive in that players play in teams. And then I was also working on a version that REALLY changed the game into more of a board game adding many new elements and mechanics.
What a bummer. I've stayed away from the hero sets due to the thematic issues (no problem with FE) and really was hoping this would address the length issue so I could start playing a deck builder with DC heroes. Oh, well... here's hoping for an improvement with Crisis 3.
Only played it once, and found the same issues. Played the game over two days at over 3 hours. Just too long. But I will try it again and because I want to like it, I'll have to come up with a variant or something.
I always play with a hundred cards and I play with six random Impossible Mode villains ( including Vandal Savage on top and Crisis Nekron on bottom) as well as eight random crisis (Immortal Villain on top of the stack) It makes the games significantly shorter and it means I won't play with all the villains in one go. I also never play where the villains have to be defeated before a crisis can be beat. I've never played the game where that rule was honored.
Word of advice for next time some people depending on the situation or the games, Nick For later reviews some people prefer to know the "Bad stuff" first, then The "Good stuff" since the good is what makes people buy and the bad is typically (Although not always the case) waht might suggest people to avoid certain games or things it can be helpful!

Do these new rules fix the game?

So can you mix both expansions into the main game and have it as one big game?

I recommend playing with a hundred cards and cut the villains and crisis down to around 6-8 each.
Can you mix the DC Base set and the Hero Unite main deck?

In Legendary, it's co-op but there is only 1 winner right?
Actually it's either the players wins or they lose depending on scheme but someone can always get the most points.
some of the effects are hard to understand
