    Terrific video. Very informative. As a male, I find that many of the how to pack videos are not geared to men. However this contained good info regardless of gender. For instance the tip about an extra bag for souvenirs was something that I never thought of quite frankly but is a sound piece of advice. Last year on a trip to the UK my wife and I were stuffing things into our luggage with great difficulty. The spare bag as you suggest would have been a big help. Again kudos for another great video and please keep them coming.

      We are so not watching the same travel videos. Most of the videos I watch are mostly weighted towards male viewers. Probably bcos I'm a lot more practical and minimal than the average female traveller eg. this chic loses major points for me bcos she always takes a hair straightener 🙄 That's just weight and space I can use for something else (eg. a waterproof jacket!)

    I love what you said about looking like a tourist. I am going to Europe as a chaperone for a school travel club. We will be with a tour guide about 1/2 the time. Of course we will look like tourists! All the rif raff will spot us from a mile away and I refuse to be so obsessed with not being robbed that I miss experiences. Instead, I am going to take some simple precautions like copying my passport, not keeping a ton of cash, having a back up card that is not with me, staying with a buddy or in my group, not going into secluded places, not accepting things from strangers, keeping what I carry around to a minimum, and keeping my belogings in view at all time. I realize I still may be approached by scammers or pick pocketed, but I can't let that possibility ruine my trip.

    Thank you so much! These are excellent tips! I like the idea of a phone strap, so I plan to look into that. Also, I appreciated your last tip. There are so many videos out there about how to 'not look like a tourist'. While it is wise not to draw attention to yourself, the locals always know you are a tourist! (I live in a tourist area in the U.S. and it is easy to spot tourists.) That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a tourist! As you said, be respectful of local norms, be polite, and do not worry about being recognized as a tourist. 😊

    German here: i think athleisure wear is okay here when you are browsing, hiking or overall on an about. But you are definitely right, dress for the occasion. It won’t be well received in opera houses, finer restaurants or something in the line of that. I personally would want to be dressed in leggings when visiting France (especially Paris) for example.
    And i wanted to say: great video with solid tipps. Well done 👍

    Most European metros were built before lifts were invented, it is very common that you go in and out the metros (subways) by stairs, do not expect ramps as those metros were built in densely populated cities (ie no land for ramps).

    Great tips! Is using those cross body lanyards for the phone really a good option? I was thinking it advertises the phone you have and easy to just snip off with a pair of scissors.

    • @HappytoWander
      @HappytoWander  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I still haven’t bought one myself so I can’t speak from personal experience but I have loads of friends who have them and swear by them. I’ve also seen lots of people with them on all my recent city trips!
      Snipping with scissors is possible, but I think with phone theft their main priority is speed/getting away quickly so having that extra cord is a helpful deterrent. Most of the phone thefts you hear about are people getting them stolen from their hands by people on bikes/scooters, or people who leave their phone on a table… so in my head, I don’t think a snip/snatch would be that appealing as it’s not as seamless or quick. Not saying it’s impossible though!
      When I get one, I’ll probably still keep my hand on it in crowded areas/by busy roads rather than leave it dangling. Hope that long winded reply helps a little haha

    • @birdee18
      @birdee18 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      My phone lanyard is a chain link with faux leather woven between the links. I’m sure it could easily be yanked off of my neck if someone wanted to, but I think it would be difficult to cut.

    • @susie9893
      @susie9893 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think many of them have anti-slash straps (like many travel bags have). And everyone has a phone these days, it's expected. Considering this is trending in Europe I suspect this is just a way to make a practical item look good (European speciality)

      It’s perfectly fine to have your prescription pills in a pill organizer for Europe. No need to pack the bottles. Have an electronic list or photos of the prescriptions if you feel you must. You can check online the countries you are visiting and what medications are banned there. Sudafed/ ephedrine, narcotics and CBD products can be problematic.

    • @susie9893
      @susie9893 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As fishandfloral said, it's usually fine in western countries. Even in my country (Australia) where we are super strict, customs are not going to bother checking thru your pills unless you're bringing a huge amount (and I'm talking enough to set up a shop), or something else about you prompts them to do a search.
      But it does pay to carry a prescription list (on your phone) and photos from the drug company's website (so they can identify it easily) can't hurt (I had this happen ONCE, in a country even stricter than mine, but usually, if I'm even asked, once I show them I have a list they're so bored they don't even look after that).
      Just remember that going through customs might be stressful for you bcos you NEED those meds, for customs this is just their job and unless you're smuggling enough to sell they just aren't interested - you're just another boring tourist. Be willing to show them anything and they usually won't bother (this is one of few occasions where it pays to over-share, they won't be able to move you along fast enough 😂).
      Of course, if you're taking something obscure, photos are extra important. I was on a cream once that I had to draw up in a syringe (to ensure dose accuracy) and that raised a few eyebrows, but I took the instructions list the pharmacy provided and they'd start reading but then hand it back
