I was here back in '86! Boy it has changed a lot. It was a slow paced small town with little to no tourists. I was only 11 years old. We stayed in bungalow's on the beach just to the north in the El Marlyn Azul area. One room, no AC!. Just a bed and a hammock with doors that opened right out to the gulf only 30 yards away. Best two weeks of my life!
I'm heading to Playa Del Carmen in a month for my first visit to Mexico. so looking forward to this trip. Thank you for the helpful info. looks amazing!!
Thank you for Very useful information. I'm planning a trip for scuba diving in a few months as well as excursions. These are great tips and things to keep in mind.
I haven't been to Playacar since 2000, but went there 3 times in the 90s. I loved Mike's on the Avenue Steakhouse and Karen's Pizza on 5th Ave. There was a bar on the beach that have swings at bar, I think it's called Columpias Bar now...it was something else back then, super fun! Looks like it's changed so much. The beach does not look at blue water as I remember at the shoreline. We stayed at The Royal Hideaway and Continental Plaza on our past trips there.
Thank you Kim. I just booked 7 nights at Thompson's beach house thanks to your recommendation. I am also traveling in March per your advice. I have been to Cancun 3x and am looking for something a bit different. I told the hotel I want to get booked on their shuttle to get a ride to the hotel from the Airport. Let's see what happens. I'm getting excited about my upcoming trip! Thanks for your very helpful insight!
When I go I usually stay at the Riu Tequila. Been going there since the 80's. It's all-inclusive and the staff is great. There is a bus from Apple that picks you up from the airport and drives you back on your departure date. I wouldn't go any other way. Thank you for sharing
Great video. I want to visit here. And I want to stay at Thompson Hotel or The Palm at Playa. The area looks amazing. And, I want to go to the walmart there...lol
I've been visiting the Yucatan for almost 20 years. I'm not really a fan of Playa because of the crowds. It doesn't feel authentic. But all of your suggestions are legit for PdC visitors, both new and old. The last tropical storm was TS Rina in October 2011.
A couple years ago, Mexico started to stop taking US dollars (long ago, they used to take US dollars everywhere). I guess that didn't last long and old habit comes back:)
Great info, Thanks. Suggestion: In Mx - and most of the world - they used Celcius and Kilometers. It would be nice when you mention temperature to use Celcius as Fahrenheit is ??
I really enjoyed staying at the grand Hyatt, it’s a beautiful resort. My suggestion is to stay away from the north side of the resort as it’s a day beach club.
Kim, very informative. A lot of good info for folks who have never been. But ‘ pull-ease’ discontinue calling it Playa. PDC works! Carmen works! But…Beach?!? That’s so lame. If you were headed to Myrtle Beach - Daytona Beach - Miami Beach, would you tell friends you’re going to….Beach?!?
@@renatowarrens5552 Renato, they probably do ! ‘Cuz they’ve given up trying to stop that trend. I like La Playa, or even Las Playas. But Playa!! Can’t/won’t say that. That’s too much for the ears ! I do realize I can’t win this crusade, but I can’t help myself !! Just returned from two weeks just north of PDC. Whatever we call the area, it’s a nice place to be when it’s below freezing at home !
Is PDC mainly a cash area or do the restaurants and bars take credit cards? Is it easy enough to pick up essentials like sunscreen there? I try to travel light and not bring a ton of toiletries with me...
1 nuevo peso is actually 1000 old pesos so now it would be like 18000 old pesos to the dollar. old presidents do not want you to know the old peso. hehe!
Is not crappy tip, 15% normal, 18% better , 20%+ if the service is awesome, but everyone think aslo if anything less than 15%, is bad only 2 time I didn't tip at all service was fucking awful

This is my favorite place to go on holiday! If you could do more on the area I would love to learn from you!
I have a couple more videos coming in the next weeks! Thanks for your feedback, I also love Playa! What's your favorite part about it?

I’m so glad you enjoyed the video, and I’m so glad you made your choices based on my video. Please let me know what you think of this wonderful hotel.
@@TheAbundantTraveler I also hired "Happy Shuttle" to pick me up when I get to Cancun. I should Tip the Driver yeah? Thanks

Hahaha yes! Those hotels are both gorgeous choices. I'm not so sure about the walmart! 🙎

Doug Robinson Thank you so much! There are other locations I love as well.
Hi. I love your videos. Any info on taking uber from Playa to Cancun airport?
A lot of useful information!
Thank you so much for your kind words, and thank you for watching.

Thanks for sharing your comments. Stay safe!
Great video Kim! Super useful.
Thanks so much friend!
Playa Del Carmen is pretty amazing! So glad we found this place ;)
It really is!
Stalactites hold "tight" to the ceiling. Stalagmite's are on the floor and "might" reach the ceiling . that's an easy way to tell the difference.
Thanks for the clarification and tips
I got so into videos I almost lost you. Subscribed
That's awesome. Thank you so much!
Excellent info, very useful 👍
Glad it was helpful! Make sure to sub to the channel

Good suggestion. Since most of my subscribers are in the US, I use F. Thanks for sharing.
Finally a helpful video
I'm so glad you liked it!
Thanks for this valuable information.
Glad it was helpful!
The Abundant Traveler: I can't remember the last time a hurricane actually hit Playa del Carmen
Hurricane Delta: Am I a joke to you?
I got stuck in Gamma in October, and I believe Delta came through later that week.
What a great summary!
Thank you so much!
New sub- thanks for all of the great tips! We are going there in a couple of weeks. Appreciate your suggestions!
Thanks for the sub!
The reason I like Playa rather than Cancun is because it's center of everything. Cozumel is only a ferry ride away.
I like Playa better as well.
Have you ever been to Playa del Carmen? I'd love to hear your thoughts on these tips! Happy travels ☺
Yes, first time in 2006 and I've been back almost every winter.
I’ve never been 😓 I wanna know more is there a way to contact you
I’m planning on going this is a great video..
How much was the shuttle?
I’m going in February and trying tj do ad much research as possible
Closest airport is Cozumel international
Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed the video, do you know anything about playacar?
I haven't been to Playacar, but I've heard good things. Thanks for watching, and please subscribe to the channel.
Thank u !!! 💞
You're welcome 😊
It doesn't take 100 peso to go on the taxi in PdC...I paid 30, 40, 50 peso mostly - once I could navigated I walked.
Agreed, but it takes some understanding and practice before you learn the ropes.
I would only use an ATM if I need cash. Everything else, I would use the credit card. highest exchange rate and no fees.
good tip.
Do you use ur debit card?
What if my credit card company says there is a 2.5% fee? Is that still cheaper to use?
What in your opinion is a good Resort to stay at? Looking for something on the beach with an ocean view
The Hyatt or the Thompson Beach House are great options.
Hi how was your stay at Grand Hyatt? ANY pros cons?
I really enjoyed staying at the grand Hyatt, it’s a beautiful resort. My suggestion is to stay away from the north side of the resort as it’s a day beach club.

Hello! Can you recommend a restaurant for a casual couples dinner in Playa de Carmen? Thank you.
I love La Perla Pixin, Axiote and Los Aguachiles. Have a blast!

Restaurants take credit cards. Taco stands etc are only cash. Yes, it’s easy to get everything you need. Have a blast!
@@TheAbundantTraveler Thank you!
What hotel is this at 7:15? Also what is your favorite beach club with a pool?
Grand Hyatt. tidd.ly/3DSlbLt
I heard there are atms to avoid that would steak your information, is that true and which ones to avoid?
I'd said avoid the ones on 5th Ave. It's best to use ATMs at a bank.
Do we need to tip in a taxi or at a restaurant ? How much
Taxis round up. Restaurants I usually tip 15/20% depending on the service.
Are you still in PDC? I'm visiting this Monday. Athlete student here.
No. I'm back home. Have a great time.
creepy
Hi
Esta lleno de sargazo 😰 y no se puede ir a la Playa… muy mal olor tambien… que locos van a
Playa del carmen ??

Be ready for tons and tons of seaweed so thick you cant get to the beach
It wasn't terrible when I was there Feb 2020.
Kim are you single
15% is a crappy tip. Shame on you.
Is not crappy tip, 15% normal, 18% better , 20%+ if the service is awesome, but everyone think aslo if anything less than 15%, is bad only 2 time I didn't tip at all service was fucking awful
15% is excellent tip. Ask for a raise from your employer instead of annoying the costumers !!
