    After 6 years and 320 hours, it’s finally starting to give me an issue. The deck belt keeps breaking and John Deere wants $90 per belt. You can get them aftermarket on Amazon for $30 though. I’m not sure what’s causing this. I’ll update when I figure it out

      I’d be willing to bet your deck is bent for one or for two. A spindle is bent I can’t say cuz I’ve never looked at it

      Check for bearings beginning to seize on the spindles.

    Hey young man thank you for your efforts...Outstanding tutorial ! You nailed it. A commonsense approach. I'm a retired Fireman, just bought a used X350 from a gentleman that I'm buying a house from. I wanted to give you a shout out by saying that if you were at the Fire house giving a presentation like that you'd of made the members very proud.
    You were very smart including your camera operator in your video... Best wishes Very refreshing

    This was a great video. My husband passed away and we just got this and I needed to learn how to put oil in it. And you taught me some good tips! He’s been gone for a year now and I haven’t put oil in it the whole time. He would be mad at me about that. Thanks for your help!

    Thank you showing how everything works, plus comparing types of John Deere engines. Bought mine used without a manual. Listening you I know I bought the right one, for I use it more as a mini tractor than a mower! Thanx again!

    Thanks for this video. I just bought an X350 this week and have used it for two hours today on my large lawn. You answered my main question, which was when to change out the breakin oil for regular oil. The JD manual is confusing. Since I have two other JDs their manual specifically stated "after 8 hours" but the manual for the X350 just says "break in to 50 hours" whatever that means. Your mentioning 8-10 hours is appreciated and confirms what my experience with JDs told me. As others have mentioned, you didn't properly check the oil with the dipstick. This is a Kawasaki engine and you never screw the dipstick in for a proper oil level. But, perhaps you now know this after a year's use.

    This is more information that the dealer gave me. One additional item is the push/pull rod on the rear end. When you are hand pushing the mower to load, you pull the rear rod out. Then when you are driving it, you push the rod in. Another tip for changing the filter. I save my old t-shirts, cut them in half and stuff the piece of t- shirt in and around the oil filter. Keeping a can of parts/brake cleaner handy to clean away any residue. One other tip, I use my leaf blower to blow the mower clean after each use. Very helpful video. Thanks for your work.

    Thank you for the post. I have a X390 with the 54" deck. Like you said, it's a great mower series. I put a small cloth towel under my oil filter to save most of the mess when changing it. I also write the hours on the filter so I know when it was changed last. Your deck will last longer if you can clean it with compressed air. Water tends to get into the spindles and rust them out when you park it after washing. I seldom buy from the John Deere dealer. ebay has the same items for cheaper prices. Have a great summer season :)

    I went with the 2019 X370 because of the hydraulic lift for the mower and snowblower, and the power steering. I had 14 years of great luck with my 2004 L110 and sold it in 2 hours on craigslist. Hope the X370 is as good. Tractor was $3299, but $7045 with mower, blower, weights, chains, cab and leaf bagger.

    I have the S240 42 inch deck. I use cereal cardboard and fashion an open top chute to catch the oil filter leakage. I also use synthetic blend 5w20 and a aftermarket filter. I change oil and filter in the fall when storing for winter.

    This video was made when his John Deere X350 was new, it's now 5 years later and I hope it's still running strong? I have a JD x350 but I have the 48" deck which I have to say never gets clogged on me. I also have the 22hp. Kawasaki engine which John Deere used for years. I also use the Power Chute Bagger for the lawns, mine is Zoysia grass which is thatch prone so don't want to double the Problem with dead grass clipping. I agree with you 100% on the oil filter mess when changing it, but my deck has for rollers and is easy to unhook so just move the deck and rags on the frame helps. Good Video.

      Thank you for watching. Yes, I still have this same mower 5 1/2 years later. It now has 320 hours on it. I haven’t the first issue with until here recently. It broke its original deck belt. I bought an aftermarket one on Amazon for $30 being John Deere belt was $90. It lasted 5 hrs then broke. So I figured it was maybe because it was the cheap one so I coughed up the $90 for a John Deere. That one lasted 3 hours, and broke. I haven’t figured out what’s causing it, some of the bearings on the deck have play/howling sounds. May be time for a compete deck rebuild. The mower owes me nothing. It’s been fantastic.

    The JD "EZ Change" has the oil in the filter (I don't know if that works for the X350) - I have a 2018 X350 as well and did my Spring service just last weekend - I opt'd for the "Kit" (LG 265) which included a new air, oil, and fuel filter along with 2 qts. of 10w30, and two new plugs. I found that if I lowered the deck to it's lowest point I could get my drain pain almost under the frame and catch most of the oil from the filter so only had a drop or two on the frame and deck to clean up. I filled to 1.5 qts. then added a little more than a 1/4 more and that brought me up to the full line with the dipstick NOT screwed in. The grease fittings are around the front axles the steering pivot, deck pullies and the one everybody forgets the deck leaver. It's a two or three beer job depending on if you drink your first beer while you wait for the oil to drain all the way - slight design change suggestion - put the oil drain on the same side as the beer holder so you don't have to walk around the tractor as much. As 1776 Outdoors said the battery is easy to remove - the fuel filter replacement is a bit easier with the battery out.

    Get rid of that mulching kit (if you decide to keep it, they have an electric switch activation now 42A electric one-touch MulchControl attachment - BUC10164) and replace blades with high lift blades..that grass will thrown 20 feet.. I bag occasionally too and have not had a problem yet..love my X350

  • @sylkelster
    @sylkelster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I disabled the reverse blade disengagement 'safety' feature, and now use the yellow button for a horn. A forklift style horn works perfect. As far as the blade disengagement safety system goes, the older mowers didn't have it, and the new mowers don't need it as long as you are paying attention to what you are doing and not texting while mowing, or mowing drunk. Lol. It's also considerable additional wear on the PTO clutch when you forget to press the button over the course of time.

    • @guermeisterdoodlebug7980
      @guermeisterdoodlebug7980 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s really interesting. I would never have thought of a horn on an X350. Is it for registering your displeasure to other drivers?

    • @sylkelster
      @sylkelster 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@guermeisterdoodlebug7980 My neighbor's large John Deere tractor has one, and he honks at me at times saying "hey." I figured why not. It's totally useless in a practical sense but a fun side project. I found the blade disengagement feature vexing, along with the seat switch. 'Features' designed to protect people from themselves. Important thing to note is that no mods made to the factory wiring harness, everything 100% reversible without a trace, which is important for warranty purposes.

    Best to make a cardboard funnel to jam under the filter...that chutes the oil straight into the funnel and can..... Also best to take the oil filler cap off when draining the oil..that way non gets held up by vacuum inside the engine.. Also on these engines, being over-full can be bad....

    • @boeingnut787
      @boeingnut787 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Geoff Wilson this is correct. If the mulching kit was not installed then the mower would have the normal high lift blades.

  • @alans.4658
    @alans.4658 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For super tall grass, almost brush hog conditions near the end of your video, you would get optimal performance by removing the mulch kit completely. The kit and blades are removed in a few minutes and removing prevents unnecessary strain on all the belts, deck components and engine.

    I was never told to do the first oil change after 8 hours by the dealer and both the manual and the instructions under the hood read 50 hours for the first change. After I went to the dealer for a grease gun and grease for the wheels was the first time I was told it needs an oil change after 8 hours. It currently has 26 hours on it and it will be getting it's first oil change, so question is what kind of potential damage could have occurred or is there any great reason for that concern.

      There's a few sellers on eBay that sell ones with a 1" or 2" receiver on them too (bumper) I've mounted a 2" receiver on the back of my X350 and it works great for moving my utility trailer from the back of the property to where my truck is (or for hay rides in the fall). As far as not being messy with the filter - if you lower your deck you can get most shallow oil pans underneath the frame - just don't forget to set the deck height back up or you'll butcher your next lawn ;-)

    Rather slap-dash way of changing oil. Need to remove the dipstick to allow oil to fully drain from crankcase. When checking the oil level on this model you do NOT screw the dipstick in but rather just insert and not screw in, else it will read high level. And, the book says to START with 1.8 quarts, not just dump in 2 quarts and call it good enough. I have both an S240 and an X350 and both are great machines.

    Some of the stock filters are put on with an air gun so 'hand tight' is a joke. But once off, a Fram or Supertech 3614 will fit and has twice the filter media inside. easier to remove next time as well. This is an 'air cooled' engine so 10w-40 would be better but synthetic at least.

    • @gordbaker896
      @gordbaker896 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stay away from Fram filters. 10W40 is for Diesel.

      @@gordbaker896 I agree,I'll never put a frame filter on anything. Air cooled engines run hotter than liquid cooled,so I always buy 10w30 just for lawn equipment, whether its Briggs and Stratton oil,john deere,etc.

      King Hoffbeers the fan you see between the rear tires is part of the transmission. The engine is air cooled.

      Snail5341.....Obviously you are not an owner or a buyer of an X350, just a troll or you would have more to say about why you say it is garbage and not heavy duty. Please state your reasons and experience with the machine so that we may all know what you are talking about. Talk is cheap w/o facts and documentations. Bring it on! We are all adults and want to hear your expert opinion.

      100 hours on it now. Zero problems so far knock on wood. Still have 4 years left on warranty. No big deal to swap out transmission if it ever dies. If I can get 800 hours out of the trans I’ll be happy. If it goes bad after warranty I’ll throw another one in there. Thanks for watching
