Make Variable Power Supply by Increasing Computer ATX Power Supply Output Voltage. in this video i demonstrated how to make adjustable / variable power supply from computer atx power supply / PSU to make benchtop / workbench power supply OR you can use as 12V car battery charger OR for dc motor based room cooler / desert room cooler or many other projects and applications. Computer ATX Power Supply can be hacked to convert it in very simple steps.

first disable the overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuit protection by disabling atx supervisor IC or LM339 or any comparator or operation amplifier IC working as ATX housekeeping function.

How To Disable Voltage & Current Protection from ATX PSU.
i demonstrated TL494 / KA7500 based atx psu, it is using LM339 comparator ic. this works as ATX supervisor ic for housekeeping and monitoring all the atx function and it turns off TL494 /KA7500 in any abnormal case (over voltage, under voltage, short circuit, over current ) it will pull up pin 4 of the TL494/KA7500 that is dead-time control pin when this pin is pulled up above 2 volt, it shutdown the ATX and disables the SMPS controller option
it prevent the atx operation by auto shutdown from under voltage, overvoltage and overcurrent conditions. so you can modify/ Disable short circuit and overload Computer ATX Power Supply into car battery charger or lab power supply for your electronics workbench or you can make it variable dc power supply. I have some HP server power supplies nice compact units with 65 amp on the 12 volt bus. Would like to do this to them. Can you suggest a source for a schematic for them?
After removing one leg of the resistors on the +3.3v and +5v output lines from the PCB board, what were the voltage values of these two lines? You didn't show this in your video.
0 for each. Taking those resistors out of circuit effectively opened the circuit for them.

Can someone explain why psu is turning off when load is connected? Is that because load consumes more power than psu is rated for?

How psu knows when to not cut off power?
almost all power supplies have output supervisor IC, that IC monitors the output voltage for undervoltage and overvoltage and imbalancing between the output lines
if any voltage drops, the second line will incraese, thus the supervisor ic will turn off the PWM controller IC
in case any output capacitor gets open or short circuited or leaked, the volatge values on supervisor IC's input lines (sense lines for 3.3 volt, 5 volt, 12 volt) will change and it will terminate the PSON interlock to disable PWM drive
please consult the datasheet for supervisor IC installed in your PSU's output stage

I did modified my ATX unit and the output varied properly I'm yet to add a suitable load though. But I also want to point to a problem I encountered and what I did as a solution. Problem:>>>> After using this trick I noticed that power resistors at the output became very hot. Solution:>>>> I removed them know they were working as a dummy load and for current measurement purposely. I'll replace it later though with a suitable one. But i'm posting this because I know some people will encounter such. And I also want to ask if you as well encountered this same problem? ....... Hope to get your response or anyone's response.

if you are using computer power supply, most of time, maximum output can be taken from computer power supply that is 400-700 watts. while 12 volt section can provide maximum 200 watts in an excellent power supply.
that will not enough to run your amplifier.
moreover, you need to remove protections and then it is doable

but we can add a linear voltage regulator circuit with current regulator (as LM723)

you can use a linear voltage regulator and current regulator in the output

But in 30sec main mosfet over heat & its gone. Main mosfet control using fuji FA8A86 ic. In main capacitor 305v indicate not switching time. But main mosfet swichin mormet main capacitor voltage drop to 271v. What am I do sir. Comments please

I've replaced the 16V 1000uF capacitor from output with 25V 1000uF capacitor but it's going up to 18V, should i buy a 35V or it has something to do with the fact that i've soldered a 2K resistor for ground(i haven't had a 1K when i wanted to test it)

we cannot increase amperes, because the transformer is limited at a rated current, if we will try to draw more current by hacking the protection, it will cause to overheat the transformer, MOSFETs and it will lead to destroy it rapidly
