  • Witchcraft Among The Azande - Once one of the largest tribes in Africa, the Azande kingdom spread across what is now the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Southern Sudan.
    The Azande tribe was decimated by the European slave trade and later, the kingdom divided geographically by the colonial rule of Belgium, France, and Anglo-Egyptian Sudan.
    In this remarkable documentary, we get close to the practices and beliefs of this powerful tribe.
    The documentary series “Disappearing World” was originally broadcasted between 1970-1975.
    As an anthropological landmark of its time, the series tells the story of traditional communities endangered by the modern world’s progressions.
    The series stands as a historical document of daily life in remote and threatened societies, such as the Cuiva, Embera and Panare Indians of Colombia, the nomadic Tuareg of the Sahara, the Kurdish Dervishes and the Meo of China.

    • @danielabassano8565
      @danielabassano8565 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @emma jones the problem is that usually in western media every time they illustrate any crime or any reportage connected with certain types of traditional practices involving people of African origin or African born or also Black Brazilians or people from Louisiana or Haiti or Caribe black people they refer to those people as "African " and they refers to the practices as of "African tribal origins " suggesting all African people and all African tribes are involved in that. African tribes are all very different among each other as all African state is different from another. ...Is good to see a documentary highlighting a specific tribal identity connecting its traditional practices just to it.

      I think you may understand more than most the real reason for superstition of the tribe are meant to keep people acting out in the 1st place they use fear to control the population even a small one like a tribe. and it's not just this tribe many of us can trace our roots back to things like this going on. with limited growth of the country also keeps people in the past mind set if you will. it's not for us to damn or call it right or wrong the people who live that life have to be willing to make that change as a people. after all they are the ones living and dying by the laws within the tribe. I enjoyed the video and it's cool getting to peek back in time at what might have been going on in some of our own past.

    Whether a chicken lives or dies is nothing different than the role of the dice, or what stick the termites eat. Committing adultery long ago has nothing to do with whether a chicken lives or dies. I would think his wife had already suspected it, came forward and accused them, and it was only chance that their previous adultery was uncovered. I wonder if a person investigated deeper whether all such cases turn out the same way and actually reveal some truth.

    • @wdfktv8555
      @wdfktv8555 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There have been Christian missionaries many denominations in this country for well over 100 years, the path to being civilized is a very long and rough road, in general people will hold on to long-held beliefs with a death grip. It takes many generations and extreme patience for change to occur. Not all change is positive, these people lived in Africa for thousands of years and were perfectly happy with their culture and customs. Then, Along Came the self-proclaimed wise and righteous to impose their beliefs on people who were perfectly well living in harmony with nature. The Azandi believe everything and I do mean everything in nature has a spirit and a soul. I once thought this concept to be a little on the Nutty side, then I grew up and was able to see the bigger picture. Perhaps if more cultures around the world had this belief, we would treat our planet and each other with more care and respect.
