It's funny to think that some years ago I watched this video and I thought "Wow! This guy is amazing! I don't know why I haven't heard of him before. JTC should pay more attention to him" without even realizing that he is THE FOUNDER of JTC! It's great to know that the boss is a hell of a player too!
Shredders take note: - blasting away at a million miles an hour is entertaining for about 5 minutes, this kind of playing is far more memorable. If most of us could play half as well as this guy we would be happy, texture, phrasing, melody, tone - its all here and it's fantastic - Thanks Jan
It's about putting it all together. If you listen to somebody give a speech you don't want Is monotone speaking, You want inflection. Say it loud say it soft, Speed up slow down, Et cetera
I’m not a guitarist but I would sell my soul to play like this. I have Jan’s album “Guitar Heroes” Guthrie Govan guests on a few tracks as well James Graydon, Alex Hutchings, Clive Caroll and couple more guitarists love the album for all the different styles approached. I’m just the bloke who hangs around musicians, a Drummer I take this approach to playing and listening to music Close my eyes Listen with my ears Feel it with my heart. Jan Cyrka’s playing is perfect for my very simplistic approach, it has feeling to it.
It’s crazy, but this just got recommended to me, and I am at a point in my playing, where I want to slow down and start falling back on really intricate phrasing rather than just shred solos like I used to do. This piece would be tough for me personally just because I know I’d unintentionally rush a lot of the notes.
I Remember Jan from the upper george Halifax 1982. I first saw him play in Bradford and we became pals. He didn't hang around Halifax long as he was destined for bigger things. Your looking well Jan and still you have the magic fingers. All the best from Allan.
He has a preamp built into the guitar which boosts the output signal by around four times. This has a low pass filter on it to get rid of the fizzy highs. Combined with the Boss OD-1 and the Laney, and the way he strikes the strings of course, is how he gets that tone. Hope that helps.
Absolutely one of this country's finest musicians. I had the pleasure of meeting him once back in 1999. His music is so inspiring and as a listener it takes you somewhere else.
Wow.I have discovered him then UK.I went to charity shop and there was this CD with him with his guitar on the cover sitting under the tree.I thought I would give it a try and then I was nicely surprised at home.👏🎸👌😀
Jan, your album Beyond the common ground was with me in greatest time in my life, I love it. But this song... its amazing, soulful and... I dont have words to tell this. I cant even imagine how hard to play this song is. You are great. Greetings from Poland!
True perfection....One of the most perfect and well written composition on guitar....Simply amazing...timeless masterpiece...The technique and sensitive playing...plus tthe fabulous guitar tone....everything is touching perfectionJust perfect...perfect....perfect.
I cannot believe that I discovered him just now !!!!!!!!!!!!! I love his music I am a guitar lover, not a player , but love guitar for the last 50 years . From Jeff Beck, Al di Meola, Pat Metheny, Larry Carlton, Frank Gambale, Allan Hodsworth, Shaw Lane , Neal Schon etc... And my all time favourite Andrew Latimer. I am looking forward to listening to more of his
Have visited this piece so many times but still love it. Truly a real musician and best thing, so humble but recognised by the lack of self indulgence. A true star in my eyes.
Kocham ten utwór niezmiennie od 15 lat ! Dear Jan. I love this song since I was starting to play the guitar. It was 15 years ago. You have done a lot of beautiful and fantastic music! Thank you a lot!
Insane. I remember listening to this masterpiece for the first time 15 years ago and it really blew my mind. The tone, phrasing, pinch harmonics, etc. perfect! I come back to this song al least once a week to get inspired and remind myself you don't have to play 300 notes a second but you need to make sure every note is a hit. Im pretty sure I will come back every week for the next 15 years too. Thanks Jan!
Obviously before Guthrie Govan came on the scene but ye! I too love this and think Jan is the man. I like the fact that he is just playing in the mood and not trying to impress as well we know he can play anything. This just has it all for me, I just love it. Peace!
Never heard of Jan Cyrka and came across this video by accident looking at Kramer stuff. 13 years later but hey, that's some fantastic playing. I really enjoyed that.
What an awesome guitarist, will have this track played at my funeral!! I received the cd " Beyond The Common Ground" as a birthday pressie, made turning 50 acceptable!! An absolutely awesome cd for any fan of rock guitar music and by far Jan's best work. Joe Satriani rates him very highly, (his own words). If you ever decide to tour the UK, please come to Cardiff !!!!!
How can these 44 haters not like such a masterpiece...this question will stay with me probably next 50 years or more...Pozdrowienia z Polski Panie Janie...wielki talent...gratulacje...słucham juz dłuuugo Pańskich płyt...
theres a reason why Joe Satriani said the only guy worth listening to in the UK was Jan. For me, he has bags of taste, and style and a great touch. when you gonna tour again Jan ?.
un touché exemplaire !!! une vrai lecon de maitise !!!! j'ai rencontré yan en 1993 a montpellier en france et depuis j'adore !!!!! a touchdown copy magnificent player guitar ! a true lesson of maitise! I met Yan in 1993 at montpellier in france and since I love!
One camera angle, no fire works, just pure emotions... If there is a definition of "the flow" in the music, this one is the one to describe it to me...
since i can't shred, I feel really comfortable playing Jan Cyrka songs by ear, yet, the hardest part in the process is to play his songs with the same amount of feelings he has, really amazing player, RESPECT!
I agree with your oppinions: this was and is (even more now that I've seen it "live") one of my favourite ballad for guitar. The strong feeling and musicality of this short masterpiece is really hard to reach... ...Many thanks Jan!!!
Such a fine player & sad he's been around so long & doesn't really get the credit he deserves . Such a unique & awesome feeling way to approach to using the Whammy Bar to work those notes to their fullest . Took some hard looking years ago to find a few of his 90s recordings but well worth it . A real legend more need to hear.
Wow, what a find. Had this album back in the day - lost the cd, I'm afraid. Used to play along to this song, as it was my fave. Played along to it right now and most of it was still in my fingers. So cool. :)
I do have the record "Spirit" done by this very man! It Is Great! And to all of you who just look out for the "media-ones", Mr. Joe Satriani has said Mr. Jan Cyrka is one of his favourite guitarists!! `nuff said!!
Jan is a great musician that play the guitar with magic touch, perfect sound and the vibrato is perfect for his songs and style. Please Jan , play your song "Beyond the Common Ground" and show us in youtube , Is my favorite song and the middle section (a la Vai) is AMAZINGGGG ¡¡¡¡¡ Thank you for your music ¡¡¡
So splendid... Why have you stopped recording albums, really ? I loved the ballads with beautiful synth orchestrations... There's quite a lot of Jeff Beck (in the 80's and later albums) in this... It took me some time to realize it.
This definitely brings me back... He is one of those rare breed that choses sweeping melody over shredding. My favorite track on his Spirit album is Breaking Point... this is close second. Jan really knows how to make the guitar sing....
Your obviously not a guitar man then. Same thing??? Ye, Quality, class, superiority, talent, understated, truly pleasing and uplifting. Phew!! Sometimes the spaces and gaps in life are more productive than the garbled hyper speedy moments. Chill oot an relax my friend. X
Brilliant ! and living proof that pulling strange faces and looking as though you are in pain are not essential prerequisites to making the guitar sing.
Yes I know you were my friend and I too think Dave is in a class of his own but so is Jan and Guthrie and many many more and probably ( hopefully ) more in the future. I for one, as a player, can only admire and respect this type of player as it must be hard for him not to show off and do all the technical stuff he is more than capable of and just concentrate on playing soul stirring, emotional and spiritually uplifting guitar music. The more the merrier, I say. Have fun and ROKON.
Watch the latest Jan Cyrka composed ballad here: th-cam.com/video/dKWo4sWU7ok/w-d-xo.html

This music is like a warm blanket.
He's one of the living proofs that is not necessary to shred for being EPIC!!!

Master of his trade ...the man is a legend.Well for me anyway. He is a legend.
He has a preamp built into the guitar which boosts the output signal by around four times. This has a low pass filter on it to get rid of the fizzy highs. Combined with the Boss OD-1 and the Laney, and the way he strikes the strings of course, is how he gets that tone. Hope that helps.
Super, I was wondering if he had put a sustainer in the middle pick up... thanks for clearing that up. 😎🤘
I always come back to Jan Cyrka guitar instrumentals for great tone and playing ability. What a fantastic player.
Absolutely one of this country's finest musicians. I had the pleasure of meeting him once back in 1999. His music is so inspiring and as a listener it takes you somewhere else.

Jan Cyrka the best guitar solo I've ever heard in my life
Jan, your album Beyond the common ground was with me in greatest time in my life, I love it. But this song... its amazing, soulful and... I dont have words to tell this.

O jesteś z Polski.Odkryłem tego Pana w UK...Niesamowity jest
I Freaking LOVE His Kramer guitar.
This guy has a very beautiful, ballad-y style of playing. Very impressive.
Still the same Kramer! Jan, you'r the shredder that got the best bends, smart phrasings I ve heard. So glad to hear you. I feel like a kid.
I love this jam. This shows that playing fast isn't the only route to beautiful, emotive music from the guitar.
Amazing tone and control of that nice guitar!!!!!
He can shred, yes my friend he can - but in this piece: the heart played!
Big like!

I can't help myself, I come back here every once in a while to enjoy this wonderful piece of music, well done Jan !
ten czlowiek jest wielki!!! idealny przyklad na to ze czasem lepiej zargac pare dzwiekow z niesamowitym feelingiem niz wylac ich tysiace bez serca....
I remember playing along to this song endlessly a while back. One of my fave guitar power ballads ever. Good stuff.
That fucking guitar is freaking crying!!! i can get enough of this music....best vibrato EVER!
I totally agree with you, his vibrato techniques are amazing
the good old Laney+Kramer combo, that nice old Andy Timmons sound, perfect attack, perfect drive sound, love it
Have visited this piece so many times but still love it. Truly a real musician and best thing, so humble but recognised by the lack of self indulgence. A true star in my eyes.
less is much more, simple and beautifull, a really melody from heart...
Jan has amazing feel, tone and his whammy-texture work is one of a kind!!

That song is so beautiful. I've cried when i heard that for the very first time. Completely beautiful.
Same here. This piece just tickles all the right memories. It makes me both smile and cry depending on my mood .
Beautiful! This is real online proof that really valuable music stays as in-depth lists of best songs, independent of the count of likes

Can't believe today is the first I've heard of this master of just sweet sweet love guitar playing. WOW. :) 02/05/2024 Rod was here.

Because they are probably Steve Vai or Joe Satriani fanboys who need to see a ton of blazing fast notes to be entertained ;)

Happy birthday !! Jan
There's a million shredders but only one Jan Cyrka. I know who I'd like to play like.
I keep coming back to this - I just love it.
