    Yaay! Really enjoyed watching you guys open your second box. I am so pleased to see that you loved this one ☺️ This box was definitely more up your alley compared to the Christmas box. So interesting watching you try our things for the first time!

      @@FromtheHobbitHole May I, as a Brit, point something out? You don't leave the teabag in the mug! Once the tea is strong enough for your taste, remove the bag. If you don't, the tea will get stronger and stronger...
      You can also add a little cold milk (and I mean a little!) and a little sugar or a sweetener - although these additions are down to personal taste. You may prefer the tea without milk or without sugar (or without both!).
      As for "Dairy milk", you'll find that it is simply "Cadbury's Dairy Milk" chocolate (read the packaging). This simply denotes that Cadbury's chocolate contains dairy (or full cream) milk. There is no separate brand called "Dairy Milk".

    • @FromtheHobbitHole
      @FromtheHobbitHole  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for specifying the Dairy Milk thing! As for the tea, we typically do take the tea bag out of the cup once it’s properly steeped, but we forgot this time as we were wrapped up in making the video 😝 We do like to add creamers to certain teas, depending on the tea. Thanks for commenting and have a great day!

    Hello guys, I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching you taste test UK sweets and crisps, I would class Quavers as more of a savoury snack than actual crisps, the Yorkie bar also comes in Raisin and biscuit flavour which would knock your socks off I hope. lol.
    If you get another wagon wheel try dunking it in your tea and see what you think. Us Brits are dunking mad.. thanks for a great video and I'm looking forward to the next one.. Have a lovely Sunday..

    You likely won’t be seeing this but in the U.K. we have two main brands of chocolate.
    Cadbury is the classic one- it’s rich and milky. Dairy milk and bournville are products of Cadbury.
    Galaxy- it’s less rich and creamy than Cadbury, but it’s very silky and smooth.

  • @martynadams2011
    @martynadams2011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A bit of Cadbury history for you. The company started in the early 1800s by the Cadbury family. Being a Quaker family they decided to build their factory and then own ‘village’ or town called Bournville around the factory for all the workers to live in a pleasant atmosphere. Google Bournville if you’d like to see what a wonderful place it is - still to this day. The Cadbury chocolate recipe was very secret of course and totally unchanged for many many years - then Cadbury was bought by the American Kraft group who a) changed the recipe, b) moved production to Poland c) closed down production at Bournville and d) lost the plot. I understand the decision to close Bournville has been reversed and the recipe is being slowly resumed. Note - there are lots of ingredients in chocolate that can be substituted or quantities changed to save money. Kraft are learning -slowly- that it doesn’t work when you’re dealing with a brand so well established. That was a bit of a rant - sorry, my father worked at Bournville making chocolate bars for over 40 years and I worked there myself too for a while so it’s in the blood. We used to get cheap “waste” from the factory shop. Anything that was not perfect was waste and we loved it ! Subscribed as I enjoy your quiet style and honest opinions.

    Dairy milk is Cadbury’s way of saying "this is just milk chocolate", their dark chocolate is Bournville and everything else is the dairy milk mixed with something/air rated or layered.

    Good video. In the UK there's been a return of old style sweet shops over the past few years and they sell sweets loose, by weight, with lots of choice - sherbet lemons, American hard gums, wine gums, cola cubes, blackcurrant & licorice, fruit thins, pastilles and so on - hundreds of different individual sweets. You could have a field day !
    I think my favourite sweets are tootie frooties (chewy fruit flavoured sweets), curly wurly (a chocolate coated caramel bar) and wheat crunchies (a savoury snack that comes in various flavours).
    Now I'm hungry !
    Ps - a little tip. If you leave the teabag in the cup the tea becomes what we called "stewed" where the flavour spoils. It's better to infuse until you get the strength you want, then remove the bag. Most Brits add milk to their tea, which I don't think you do in the US.

    • @FromtheHobbitHole
      @FromtheHobbitHole  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great...now we’re hungry for those things too! Haha 😆 All of those sound wonderful and we’d love to try them one day! As for the tea, we typically do remove the tea bags once the tea steeps but we found ourselves wrapped up in making the video and totally forgot 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏻‍♂️ Some Americans do add milk to their tea. A popular thing to add for us is honey. In our own personal “hobbit hole,” we find ourselves using coffee creamers and eggnog around the holidays.

    Rowntree's is an English confectionery business based in York. Rowntree developed the Kit Kat, Aero, Fruit Pastilles, Smarties brands, Rolo's, Yorkie and Quality Street brands when it merged with Mackintosh's in 1969 to form Rowntree Mackintosh Confectionery. Inturn Rowntree's were boughtout by Nestle.

    I don't know if anyone's mentioned it before, but when it comes to tea 'etiquette', you have to take into account the type of tea & how it's prepared.
    If your tea is called just 'tea', it's generally made with a little milk & sugar, but if it's a bit 'posh', you just drink it on it's own, or perhaps with a lemon wedge.
    My personal favourite is what's known over here as 'builders' tea, meaning any brand, as long as it's strong & sweet, & usually in the largest mug you can find! 🤣

    Dairy Milk is Cadbury's flagship line, known for its creaminess as it contains a glass and a half of milk per individual bar. It tends to be used for the solid chocolates such as bars and the buttons. Whereas other products Cadbury make, that have alternative textures such as aerated or flaky chocolate use a different recipie that is richer and less creamy. Hope that helps!

    Dairy Milk is a brand made by Cadbury.
    The striped yellow bag is called a pick and mix. Sweet shops in the UK commonly sell these mixed bags based on price. You will say can i have a (whatever price you want) pick and mix. You will then get random sweets to the value. Big stores and cinemas do a pick your own style. They come in 2 types. By weight and by container. By weight you pay based on how heavy it is. By container you get to put as much in the container as you like for a set price.
    Almost all shops have the same selection of sweets gummies chocolates and sweets. The biggest and most famous supplier of these is called Candy King.
    Also it's not recommended to leave your teabag in the cup while drinking.

      Just remember we're fond of our squashes/cordials, which need diluting before drinking, roughly 1:5 though adjust to taste - Vimto is a particularly good one & most things by Robinson's are pretty tasty.
      If you want something really quintessentially British, keep an eye out for Bovril - it's far nicer than Marmite & pretty versatile, you can make it into a drink, spread it on toast or add it to a number of meat dishes to add extra richness.

    • @FromtheHobbitHole
      @FromtheHobbitHole  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vimto sounds familiar. Here in the states we call drinks that need diluting concentrates since they’re in their strongest form until you add water.
      Someone else mentioned Marmite to us and it made us want to try it. We definitely will keep an eye out for the Bovril. It sounds super interesting!

It is like us saying just because we sell Hershey’s in the U.K it is ours. Which horrifies me as Hershey’s is terrible and should be banned for its chemicals. Dairy milk is just what we class as milk chocolate whereas sometimes there is more cocoa in the ordinary Cadbury’s but it has to have an even higher percentage to be classed as our plain chocolate and then again with our dark chocolate. Hi
    Thought you should be made aware that although (British) Cadbury’s Dairy Milk chocolate is available in other countries, it is made locally “under licence”.
    Therefore, under such licence, there are often ‘tweaks’ to both the ingredients and the manufacturing process.
    This can result in (often, in my experience, negative) variations in taste.

    • @FromtheHobbitHole
      @FromtheHobbitHole  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Thanks for commenting. We do have Cadbury in the US, but like you said, it’s under license to the Hershey Company. And, like you said, isn’t as good as the Cadbury we’ve tried through these British Candy Boxes.

      @@FromtheHobbitHole All Cadbury chocolate used to be the same recipe and Dairy Milk was just the name of their regular milk chocolate bar. However, around 15 years ago they decided to turn Dairy Milk into an umbrella brand for many of their products (including Cadbury Buttons which became Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons). From then on, any products with the Dairy Milk brand used the original Cadbury recipe, and anything without it started using a different (cheaper) recipe. So what used to be the distinctive Cadbury taste is now the Cadbury Dairy Milk taste. It was basically a way of introducing two different tiers of chocolate recipes. Hope that makes sense!
