Hey ACTORS WITHOUT CLASS tutorial Peter Patrikios! Our resources are to help nursing students through nursing school. We cannot give out any medical advice. We always recommend if you have any medical specific questions they are best addressed with your healthcare provider. Thank you for understanding. Hope you have a great day! 😊
@@NursingSOS did some research and got the answer I was looking for fortunately I attended medical school for a little bit and so I can understand what I was reading relatively clearly and one thing I did not remember is that the liver stores sugar and can release it at times when a person is hungry and not eating
Lee Rene, great question! Glucagon is released to help prevent the blood glucose level from dropping too low. So since glucagon ultimately will increase blood sugar, it will also increase insulin secretion as well. I hope that helps, friend! If you have any other questions, we are always available. :)
I'm pretty sure it takes a lot longer than "a couple hours" for one's blood sugar to drop low enough for the liver to start gluconeogenesis. Speaking as a person who is actively pursuing a solution to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, it seems like it takes closer to upwards of 20-hours or more to get to that point. Exercise tends to speed things up nicely but I could only wish to go into gluconeogenesis in "a couple hours".

Yes, glycogen is stored in the liver, but it is also stored in muscles throughout the body. The glycogen stored in muscle is primarily used by the muscles themselves, while that stored in the liver is distributed throughout the body - mainly to the brain and spinal cord. The other point that you neglected to mention is that insulin is the body's Fat storage hormone, and the Glucose stored in the cells is body fat.
