A specialist in conflict resolution, Paul works as a speaker and consultant, advising companies and educational institutions on issues that range from diversity and compassion fatigue to using humor in leadership. He is a former Associate Director of Conflict Resolution at Colorado State University and Associate Dean of Student Affairs at the Culinary Institute of America, where he resolved complex issues in a manner that both supported students and aligned with the institution's mission. Despite the serious nature of his work, Paul has also been a "jack-of-all-jokes" since grade school. His experience as a stand up comic fuels his commitment to using positivity and humor to galvanize groups and ignite individual ambition.

    Summary of this video :
    1) How seriously others take us is inversely proportional to how seriously we take ourselves
    2) If we are not there to laugh at ourselves there's someone out there who would do that for us
    3) We live in a time where leaders who are imperfect, have a good sense of humor, and the ones who not take themselves too seriously are much more valued as it makes them look much more approachable and the work environment becomes less stressful
    4) There's something really genius about being childlike and finding 300 things a day to laugh at, let that ingenious silliness out cause life is too short

When i was a student at OU in Athens I had that student number with one too many 7770 and the lecturer cannot remember my name because i was too Asian to have a very cocasian sounding name , so she calls me the girl with kingky student number. Its even more kinky for the owner of student number with all 7s. I checked it out from the computer lab box shelves😳😁🤫 well as the saying goes, life is indeed like a box of chocolate.
I just appreciate humor. Glad and happy to listen to Paul.

Yes! Great talk. Leaders, now more than ever, have the ability to lead by example by bringing humanity, humor and vulnerability to team communications. With office life changing rapidly, it is more important to make the time matter in connection on Zoom and on phone as we are missing the opportunities for bonding and social time that reinforces office relationships that create trust. Adding simple ice breakers to Zoom meetings greatly impacts how creative that session will be vs. cut & dry.

The most boring people are actually those who say things like “ I wish my workplace was more fun”.

    • @paulosincup

jorge espinosa great question. Humility must be accompanied by self confidence. Self confidence without humility is arrogance, but humility without self confidence is just self deprecation. It’s good to be able to laugh at yourself and to let others laugh at you as well, but only to the point that everyone is laughing. Once it feels hurtful or uncomfortable to you then it is no longer helpful. Sometimes it can be easier to start by laughing at things you do rather than who you are. ✌️❤️
