I think you were too harsh on Intel's IGPUs. Iris Xe was a major step forward compared to UHD and brought Intel into competitive benchmark scores of AMDs Vega IGPUs. Intel only started to fall behind with the 680M and the soon to be released 780M. The major drawback to Iris Xe was the driver/game support. For instance, you can play God of War but it wouldn't load some models and textures correctly.

Intel can only get so much out of Intel 7 they desperately need Meteor Lake to launch without hiccups. Apple just like Intel can only get so much out of TSMC 5nm, M2 shows a slight performance efficiency increase over M1. I think Apple will have a better offering with the M3 on TSMC 3nm.

I just bought one two weeks ago, refurbished. It's an *amazing* laptop. The screen is jaw-dropping and so is the performance. The iGPU is spectacular as well, you can actually do some legit gaming on it, even on AAA titles, as long as you lower the settings a bit and/or resolution. Doesn't get too hot to the touch, the fan is inaudible most of the time and is totally bearable under full load. The keyboard is also phenomenal which was totally unexpected, I never liked ASUS' keyboards before. Not at all mushy as some reviewers pointed out but rather firm and the keys spring back a lot sooner than you'd expect. I write for a living so that's a huge plus. Really nothing to complain about whatsoever. Well built although by no means a premium as some other options on the market. The battery life also varies quite a lot depending on your brightness setting but you can definitely get nine or ten hours with general productivity work on 60% brightness and on the Silent fan profile which limits the TDP to around 12W or so.
In any case, if you can get one for a reasonable price, don't think twice.

Genuine question. You complain about the different model ranges of intel cpu, but surely this is preferable to say nvidias appraoch, where literally the same gpu designation will perform wildly differently based on TGP? Personally i think it makes sense to have different cpu offerings in each power class, as you may still want a different core configuration or iGpu based on usage.

The battery part is what worries me the most about Intel's H35 processor lineup. 12 hours with FHD display + unusally big battery might sound impressive on paper.
But how would the same Intel 1370P chip fare with a brighter QHD display + higher-watt speakers + 60Wh in a same 13-14" size laptop? Can that even last 10 hours? Because last year's Lenovo Slim 7i Pro X 14" fully specced out with i7-1280P lasted barely 5 hours for me.

I know everyone doesn't enjoy tinkering with their laptop, but if you are willing to put in a bit of modest work undervolting, you can get something that runs extremely cool with ridiculous battery life in a tiny package for a Windows laptop. I paid € 550 for mine on clearance. I also picked up a GPD G1 7600 XT for € 400. Net result is a setup with 10+ hours of battery life, better than M3'ish performance on the CPU, better than Max GPU performance (when needed), in a < 1 kg package. I love it.

Josh I have a question, why you say is a 1360p on the Amazon listing, but your test show a 1370p, why is that, which processor is the correct one? Also can you do an H series comparison specially on the battery efficiency comparing m processors sustain better even with 2 k displays like in the MacBook air..

Judging by the video, this isn't really an M2 air killer; rather, it's a competitor. We're more than aware that MacOS's advantage isn't in benchmarks -- I'd love to see some real world performance metrics in a future review, if possible.

Far from perfect due to poor graphics, no OLED, 120Hz or QHD (2.8K), but it has merit compared to the Windows ultrabook market. For example, the new Galaxy Book3 Pro is priced similarly with half the RAM and storage. The Galaxy has OLED 3K 120Hz, so it may suit more than the higher spec of the MSI or vice versa.
With the MB Air and discounted MB Pro 14, I will easily go towards Apple as Intel laptops now match Apple in pricing. Even the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 8GB/i5/256GB is currently £200 more than the same spec MB Air M2!

I like your style... but :) You can't really compare them they way you are...
    1. Did you run all the benchmarks while connected to power?
    2. If you did(I bet you did), then why are you talking batterylife just after?
    3. If you want to talk batterylife, then run your benchmarks without power connected - that's a more fair comparison.
    4. Batterylife is only relevant including the benchmarks so people can see what power they are getting on the road.
Let me know what the scores are on the 1370P on batterypower ;) hehe

    Not as impressive.

Just test on balanced mode and use some applications. Not video playback. Intel laptop maybe will run normally only with disabled turbo boost. Because for every execution it runs at high frequency and boost's voltage on the chip. This "optimized" power control of laptops = laptop heat + increased battery drain.
I hope someone understands what I'm talking about.
Talking about unstable lifetime and loud fan noise under load.

I understand what you are talking about. However, I do not think we, the consumers, should be forced to run our laptops handicapped i.e. without turbo boost. If laptop can't properly cool processor with Turbo Boost on, then put a less powerful processor inside, which will also save us some money!

I don't like the battery life testing methodology, under no curcumstance will anyone does video playback only. My Dell XPS 13 plus with 1260P died after 4 hours of work.
An alternate testing methodology such as using a script running a set of daily tasks such as web browsing/ running Microsoft office suite/ chatting on discord and so on, performing those tasks each for like 10 minutes repeatedly, record how long it lasts and record the battery percentage. I believe it can be more close to real world use.

I'm in this weird mid-space, where I do a lot of photoediting as my hobby, but also prefer Windows and the least weight possible due to frequent work/travel regime - it's always M2 Air vs anything new that comes out, and this one seems to tick all the boxes, except the graphics and possibly thermal issues (I spend a lot of time in hot climates)
