- Old Nightwish Fan who didn't even know there was a new singer since Annette! 7 Days to the wolves is my personal favorite from Anette era and I was excited to see it with Floor!

With Tarja it always felt like I was listening to *TARJA* ... with backing band.
With Anette I always felt like I was listening to Nightwish with a session singer.
With floor I always feel like I'm listening to something complete. Nightwish as a whole.

With Floor almost every song is better live then studio. Even "her" NW songs sounds better live then her in studio. And her not NW songs are better live then studio :)
Yeah, I don't like how they made Floor sound on the studio version of Endless Forms Most Beautiful.
*better than. "Then" signifies temporal change. For example, I walked then I sat down. "Than" is used for comparison, i.e. every song is better than the studio versions.
I generally agree, even if sometimes I think that both versions are excellent. Or, in a live version, I sometimes hear that Floor is tired (it happens in Buenos Aires or in Wembley). Finally, I must say that I prefer Wacken 2013 versions to more recent interpretations of Floor. Live, she 'butters' her interpretation with a bit too much drama to my taste, but I understand that I am watching a video where the camera is 6 feet from her face. The live audience must appreciate that. On an audio only listening, I prefer Floor 2013. That being said, it is like comparing a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. At this level of excellence, it is a matter of taste.
The great thing about Nightwish for me is that the band thinks about themselves as a BAND first. I've heard criticisms of Empuu for instance, wondering why he doesn't just go nuts and show off in solos more often. That's just not what this band is about. Everyone serves the song first. That's why I love them so much.
This band is one of the few who don't just pay mere lip service to the whole "play to the song" idea. Everyone talks about it; Nightwish does it.
Floor and Troy along with Kai have rejuvenated Nightwish into a monster LIVE band!! Anything, and I mean anything that Floor does with this band has to be LIVE!!! The studio versions don't do Floor justice and often the music there overwhelms her, that NEVER happens LIVE no matter what!!!Her and Marco are a dynamic duo and Troy slides in with his soft back up vocals on many of their duets. The LIVE performance where Floor's stage presence just electrifies the crowd which in turn just pumps the band up even more is something to watch!!! Great reaction and while Annette did some great studio work particularly on those ballads, Floor's range power and stage presence just dominates the stage with this band and they all let her shine as they shine too with their musicianship. Floor does change up the songs done by Tarja and Annette and that is why she has a good relationship with them, she is different and the songs are different but still her own (Ghost Love Score!!!!).
I love how much fun they have on stage together!
My favorite for them having fun is I want my tears back now!

She owns the stage. There are no bad or mediocre NW tracks with her on the stage.
"Ghost River" and "Song of Myself" from Wacken 2013 need to come soon. Marko and Floor both sound amazing in those.
It has been a joy to see you rediscover Nightwish. Although I got into Nightwish within the last year.
I really think you will enjoy Yours is an Empty Hope live. I don't want to give too much away, just pay attention to the chorus.
I went and checked out Wintersun, just to see where Kai came from. Ho Lee Sheet. He's probably not even breaking a sweat in Nightwish, he's relaxing, and getting paid a lot more.
JayTor2112 this is a quote by Kai stated on the WE WERE HERE book, page 170: “ after the first rehearsals my muscles ached like hell. We had played for hours, and I realised that playing with NW was much more physical than with some other bands. With Wintersun, for example, I didn’t have to move my arms so much, and with Swallow the Sun, the tempo was deliberately sluggish...” hard to believe but he said it himself!
So happy to see you back! Glad you enjoyed it. This is definitely one of my most favorite Nightwish songs. Floor always seems to really *feel* the music and has such great stage presence. She is a perfect muse for Tuomas, and the whole band just clicks now. 😁

With all the respect to Tarja and Anette, Floor's stage presence is just AMAZING. She just fits the band like a glove. Perfect match. And the windmills :)
What I like about your channel is the fact that you know very well the old Nightwish, and that appreciated that period in time. Your are an OLD and young (or fresh) reactor at the same time. There is obviously a level of excitement with the 'recreation' of old songs (Something the album 'Decades : Live in Buenos Aires' does so well). The abilities of Floor give many songs a new dimension, as if - musically- the songs come to completion. These are exciting times for Nightwish fans !!!

I mean, people are going to keep recommending them, but I like that you picked one you were interested in seeing based on your OWN love of the band. Pretty much anything is going to be a treat for you. I do hope you venture into their new album soon! (Weak Fantasy at Tempere! or (doublebracket! I said this one before!) Honestly, seeing you react to the songs you loved BEFORE is really fun, because they are just mindblowingly amazing now, and they were ALWAYS great. Floor is just a vocal beast. No matter what direction you go it'll be enjoyable for us

you need to watch their documentary Showtime, Storytime which will give you an insight of what the band went through in the imaginaerum world tour until they had Floor in to fill for Anette. you will clearly notice how the band was in miserable state at a point of time, then the joy/happiness once Floor came in the band.

As other people mentioned already, you need to listen to a few songs from their latest album with Floor. Yours Is An Empty Hope live from the cruise and The Greatest Show on Earth from Tampere. You won't be disappointed.
Oh please check out Floor's version of 'Amaranth' live at Wacken. It's good at Tampere too, but it doesn't have the energy that Wacken has. It'll blow you away!
I've been in your place aswell m8. I was a huge Nightwish fan back then, but they lost me when Tarja left, I still tried to listen to some of Annete Stuff,but it just wasn't the same, they didn't had that Nightwish feel anymore, so I moved on.
Then around 2 years ago, I started seeing loads of Nightwish videos on recomended here on youtube, I had never came back to them, even knewing they had another noew singer, and that was until I trid that epic Ghost Love Score on Wacken, and I was floored. They sounded like the old Nightwish, that feel came back and I've been listening to them loads since then, they just sound awesome again with Floor :)

One of my favorite songs! Great reaction! During the 2nd & 3rd chorus you had a look of amazement on your face. Unfortunately Annette cannot pull this one off live. "Is this Where Hero's and Coward's part Ways"? I think it is obvious. Floor belts this line out with such a dramatic and powerhouse delivery. Notice how Floor holds the last note out for the entire 10 half time beats. During the instrumental part in the middle Annette just stands around bopping her head and watching Jukka, but Floor is leading the headbangers! And then "Light the Fire Feast" takes it to another level completely. I liked Annette on the studio version, but she is weak on her breathing and lung capacity, which shows in her live performance. Then the final three "Hero Coward" lines you can hear how Floor starts out singing with Marco then she goes up to a higher harmony on the last 2 lines . This adds so much more intensity to the climax especially the last line. Both Floor and Marco hold that line "No More" out together in perfect harmony for 25 double time beats.
Watch at 10:02 of your reaction video as Floor goes Lycanthropic and shows us her fangs. You think she feels this song? This woman is a beast in so many good ways! Take a listen to Sahara. Another of my Favorites! This one shows off the beautiful and sensual side of Floor the woman.

Great song, great performance, great reaction! Only discovered Nightwish this year but am utterly spellbound by the writing, arrangements, performances, band chemistry in live performances, and, not least, Floor's singing and charisma. Have tried the earlier singers but not gotten hooked nearly to the same extent. I have seen that Tarja has a devoted following but have to side with Troy that her voice does not do it for me. I appreciate her in the slower material but in the heavier material just no comparison with Floor. Anyway, those are of course matters of taste and really quite a gift to have this variety of singers to choose from.
When it comes to this performance -- in addition to all the obvious virtues, I just love that little pout at 3:10 and the big bad wolf (or is it a werewolf?) impersonation at 10:02.

You should try "The Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean" live at Bloodstock 2018. The mix of the sound ain't great, but you can see... Again one hell of a performance from Floor on a song that wasn't written for her initially.... She just loves to own it all 😂

I just want to take a moment to recognize Ann Waychoff. We were notified of her passing on 6/29/2020. I'm posting this on this song under her comment as Song of Myself was her favorite Nightwish song.

When I started this channel it was based off a user comment on another video. I released my first reaction video to GLS and that's where I got my first comment from Ann. She's been here on almost every video since and always felt like one of my biggest supporters.
I'm another who has used the power of Nightwish to get me through many tough times with their emotional and powerful music.
As Nightwish fans let us acknowledge Ann Waychoff's passing in proper Nightwish fashion. My meaning here is to celebrate her life as the journey and celebrate the joy she brought and spread. You should check out some After Forever. That was Floor's first band which was started at approximately the same time as Nightwish and split up in 2007.
Btw, Mark Jansen (not related) from Epica also was a band member and songwriter for that band, too.

I'm not sure if Marco ever said it right out, but with Floor, he doesn't have to adjust his pitch when harmonising...
She also takes him to account. Tarja didn't really do so, though Marco and Tarja in the Phantom are perfect. And Anette couldn't keep up with Marco.

This is exactly what I feel.
I saved my CDs, because the live and floor versions are new and superior songs.
If you want songs from the latest album, I'd recommend Weak Fantasy or Yours is an Empty Hope.
They're both pretty hard, the former being more melodic and the latter being very heavy, with lots of growling from Floor. ;)
I don’t think anyone disagrees that Floor is making their songs better live than in studio.
When you're checking out Floor's renditions of old Tarja era songs, you simply must not overlook "She Is My Sin," "Deep, Silent, Complete," "Sahara," "Stargazers," "Sleeping Sun," "Dark Chest of Wonders," and "Dead Boy's Poem!" Some of those will not be found on high quality pro-shot DVDs, and you have to settle for cell-phone vids made by concert attendees, but pretty decent copies DO exist out there and are worth the time to check them out! ....... ADDENDUM EDIT: For Deep Silent Complete the best version might be squinty4e's upload recorded at The Egg in Albany, NY, 2018 ( th-cam.com/video/4tDgdUzzV2s/w-d-xo.html ). The band sounds also more heavy because they can play now lowder, because the 2 singers you still hear them, that was not possible with Tarja and Annet that is for the band great.

I think I would be disappointed if Floor tried to be Tarja or Anette and not just be Floor. She honors the women before her by singing her way, it demonstrates the durability of the music and the singing.

This was never one of my favourites. But Wow, this changed just a few seconds ago.
I think it is pretty different to the initial version. Floor is adding a lot of emotion to the song, as always.
I'm stunned over her live performance and I think she is also energizing the rest of nightwish.
The voices of Marco and Floor match extremly well.

Annette was a pop singer with a lighter voice than Floor. Floor is more dynamic and versatile. That's not a dig against Annette. It's just that Floor is a stronger soprano with a richer voice which fits NW better since they need a classical singer at times and a heavy singer at others.
Totally agree bud, all these songs sound better live, and they all become Floor songs - also your point about Annette is spot on, she wasn't bad, she just wasn't right 🤘

Tbh I think 99% NW songs sound better live with Floor than the studio versions, especially from the Anette era it's not even close as Floor is simply so much superior vocally.. I have nothing but live Floor versions on my playlists, expect for the latest stuff that doesn't have live versions yet.. Romanticide as well, just listened to the studio version with Tarja again and I really like the live version with Floor better.. With Tarja the vocals do not seem to fit the rock metal sound, where the vocals of Floor very much do.. Only a few songs fit Tarja vocal style better I think, but even then Floor's vocals are so technical superior and also fitting it's really hard to beat.. In the end it does not matter, music is art and art is always very subjective..
Marco can overpower every vocalist in the world, but not this ONE... ;-)
They fit perfect together: I want my tears back from Wacken and Slaying the Dreamer from Bloodstock 2018 are awesome. Slaying the Dreamer is Tarja song but Marco and Floor make it a Nighwish Song.
I'll say it. Floor's versions of these classics won't be surpassed in 200 years, most likely.
