Italian here. France is far better team than Italy and would have won all the same and fully deserving it, clear like the sunlight, still I watched the match (specially the first halves of the two times) with the slightly unpleasant impression the referee was whistling to the Azzurrri "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT". Either that or the Azzurri forgot all the basics of this sport.

This French team is fantastic, the athleticism and skills are impressive, along with the traditional French flair for attack, and their uncanny ability to offload. I'm also delighted to see they've finally returned to their traditional strip, the tricolor of their national flag, which I personally think is one of the world's classiest, instantly identifying the team as France, instead of the drab and anonymous dull blue they've worn in recent years. There's something glorious about wearing your country's flag, and it could maybe stoke the fire of patriotism that bit more. Good luck France - I'm backing Ireland to become champions, but France are my 2nd choice - either way, it's time for a new world champion!

Uruguay were very good in this tournament. Not easy beats against the big teams.
They played well. But I wouldn't say they weren't easy beats. They lost 73-0 to Ab's.
They weren’t, the French coach started players who are normally substitutes. Uruguay fought well against France, showed some interesting things, and that’s about it. They got annihilated by New Zealand

France is absolutely crushing it this tournament.
It was expected. The real challenge will be South Africa and Ireland. Neither France nor NZ looked great when they played each other for the opener. France struggled a bit with an unusual lineup against a brave Uruguayan team. They played great and attacked non stop against Namibia and Italy, but both opponents were trash. I’d say both France and Ireland got the job done so far, as expected. Now the real competition is about to start; this group phase is a joke honestly.
Fax....France is now going from the trashiest defence to not just good defence but the best defence. South Africa's defence is crazyyy. Watch what they did to England in the final they won in 2019. 27 phases of defence in just 20 minutes

France and Ireland look like favorites, SA and NZ right behind them in my opinion. Upsets are totally possible. Italy looked terrible, and those 70+ points games against teams like Namibia (France) and Romania (Ireland) are a joke. The likes of Namibia, Chile, Romania don’t belong in a World Cup playing teams like France and Ireland.

Indeed but they 've been playing well for quite a good among of time now after the horrific 2011/19 period of poor if not garbage brand of rugby. They've won the Grand Slam in 22 despite being a pretty young team and beat everyone in the process including all the SH teams.

Yes. All eyes are usually on Ntamack that was out of the rwc but Jalibert is also a phenomal fly half in the shadow of Ntamack.

Terrible call on clean out which stopped first Italian try. Rugby is a contact sport where heads are touched post tackle all the time. Italy looked good when they were on.

Italy has not the pool of players and talent that France can pick from. Unfortunately rugby is still not so popular in Italy but it's getting there. France players are more athletic and skilled.
We still sorely miss Dupont at nine (the difference was blinding even if Lucu was OK), and Wilhelmse in the second row (the scrum is weak, the mauls so-so, this won't be enough vs the Boks)...Also, one can see clearly why Jelonch was indispensable, such defense!
I'm still not convinced with Bielle-Biarrey (even we Frenchmen have a hard time pronouncing his name, don't worry), but we're weak on the left wing, fact.
Jalibert is getting more confident by the day, that's good, even if his tactical kicking lacks length and accuracy.
I really hope that some kind of miracle occurs and Dupont shows up in the quarter-final...

As a French fan I realy hope for a miracle but as a nurse I would nor recommend to play pro level rugby right after a face fracture. Could be realy damaging for his cute face

It's a french record against Italy. The french team has never scored more than 50 points (approximatively if I remember) against Italy in its history.
Considering the meeting between France and Italy. Yes for them. Just because the AB had higher score does not mean it’s a smashed record. NZ record have been 100+ numerous times they’ve met Italy. France have not.

They are outsiders, not favorites.
We might see in the semis if I'm wrong, since I think Argentina stands a real chance against Wales but honestly the semis (and really because they lucky enough to face the weakest #1 seed) looks like the best they can reach.

Most of the world cup matches are mismatches.
I am a passionate Rugby fan all my life.
But there is one very disappointing factor about this World Cup.
We have fewer tier one team nations.
Italy has declined massively. Argentina and Japan similarly are all in decline.
Australia is arguably not a tier one rugby national anymore.
Most of the games are foregone conclusions before they start, and it's a month into the World Cup before it starts in earnest.
I know some will mention Uruguay and Chile as having improved, but it's very slight.
This has been the case since the very first World Cup, but it's even worse now.
The powers that be in rugby really need to address the issue with falling performances outside the top 8 teams.
Rugby is in danger of becoming a totally niche sport played only by a small number of elites.

It's what the Rugby Board wants. An elite sport with masonic values.
After the top two teams have gone through I would like to see the bottom two teams of each group go through to their own midweek tournament. Similar to Sevens with the Bowl and plate finals.
It'll give smaller teams more interest in the whole world cup experience and ensure they play more games against emerging nations than they currently get a chance to do.
Australia will be back and Fiji at least can take some scalps. And 2 of the top 4 will be out very soon.
@pittchaser but that doesn't make it more exciting because then the next round will be the victorious juggernauts against the stronger of 4 weaker sides again, which is not what you ideally want to have for the semi finals
The big problem for France and Ireland is to break their weakness which blocked them from winning world cup, which is to go pass their demons, mental breakdown during finals.

No the problem is to have a ref that allow them to win. The w c 2011 was stolen by a cheating SA ref and given on a plate to a cheating NZ team. Same in 1/2 final 1995. Rugby governing body is Anglo-Saxon and don’t like the idea of a non Anglo-Saxon team winning. Corrupt 100%
