Actally BMW was not the first to fit the telescopic fork (Not hydraulic) to their bikes. Nimbus beat BMW by a year. However, the BMW fork had hydraulic damping, while the Nimbus only had that from 1939 on.
Saw one of these in 1962 on my paper route in Iowa in 4th grade just sitting for 3 years outside ...
My favourite is the R 60/2 from 1968. Great bike.
I had a 1966 R60 and a 1967 R69S BMW. Sadly, we will never see these days again. I certainly miss the BMW R69S.
