Apart from your presentation, and details, what I also like so much about your videos is the fact that you also present all alternative versions of the myth/history that you present in your videos. This allows me to have a better overall picture of the myth at question.
Cadmus is one of the most interesting heroes, when he began his journey his mother also came along but she died of exhaustion, and his other sister Astypalaea, was kidnapped by Poseidon under the form of a Leopard with a fish tail and wings; he is also the only mortal mentioned facing Typhon.
Hi juan, are you sure we are talking about the same person? To begin with, Typhon was during the gigantomachy (during that time Cadmus was not around) - to my knowledge at least. As for his other sister (about Poseidon) and his mother falling ill etc. the versions that you mentioned do exist but they are not the most "accepted" or mainstream version. Due to video time constrains I occasionally have to leave this stuff out (unfortunately). Also, thank you very much for your comment!
@@AncientGreeceR Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed your video! the life of Cadmus and his family has many stories around it (most of them filled with tragedies). Frankly, I was also surprised to come across this version, but it exists; Nonnus places this encounter in the Dionysia during Cadmus' search for his sister. Regarding Cadmus' mother, I mention her because I find it curious that his father basically disowned his entire family and singled out Astypalea since I understand that her mention is more common specifically in the territory of the city that was founded in her honor (apart from being possibly the strangest form that Poseidon or any other Olympian, has taken to abduct one of his "lovers"). Another detail that I love is the possibility that Cadmus finally found his sister Europa, since there is a version in which she attends his wedding with Harmonia.
@@juanprada4410 Hi Juan, no worries, on the contrary I enjoy talking to you. The issue with the videos - in general - is that by default you will have to cut out some corners. Imagine it like you having to talk the 3 first minutes about the family tree of someone and all its variations. Basically, with a handful exceptions no one would watch them. Similarly with the stories: occasionally I have to go for the most "accepted" or mainstream sources while presenting the video. But it is comments like yours that add the necessary spices and knowledge that others can enjoy. And for that I am thankful! 🙂
Excellent video once again. Love your channel and all your work.
