Cornette’s point is proven more and more every year. Spike TV literally cancelled Tits N Ass because of Russo. Also Russo’s a snake for turning on Jeff, who got him into the company in the first place. “I had a conversation with a friend” he’s full of shit. Even with getting fired from WWF, Vince jumped ship to WCW like a slimy, gutless pussy (so no, Cornette didn’t get him fired from the WWF). I honestly feel Jim deserves an apology 🤷🏿‍♂️ & nowadays Dixie Carter has been replaced by Tony Khan (with Vince being replaced by The Elite).

TNA was the return of WCW. They just didn’t get it. They plugged in every old guy that wasn’t in the WWF and just hoped it’d make instant money. On top of that they put up with the same old personal crap out of everybody they plugged in like Nash being injured the day before he was supposed to lose a match. That hardly absolves Russo though. People wanted younger guys headlining since 1987 when they were looking for somebody to replace Ric Flair. Then of course it went into overdrive when they wanted to replace all the guys in 1997.

The only point I agree with is the presentation. Yes, some of the outfits Jim Cornette wore were wildly passé. But you could argue they could generate easy heat because here’s this guy straight out of the 1980s taking over a modern wrestling show. In terms of booking, Jim to this day is great. Where he’s struggled is in presentation and he’s never seen the value in that because Smoky Mountain was in the 90s, but except for the Gangstas was about a decade behind the times. You can’t have a national wrestling promotion that looks that old. Booking and promos? Great. But you can’t have angles out of the 80s without modernizing something. Vince on the other hand, wasn’t good at anything in wrestling, so it’s a moot point.

All Cornette wanted, was for shit to make sense, & for the wrestling to be taking seriously by the wrestlers; as for being a dinosaur, I remember him saying back in the early/mid 2000’s, that he wanted an 80’s style wrestling presentation (ie serious), with guys/girls that were actually born in the 80’s.
Then, as the years went on, the only thing that changed, was the decade he wanted the wrestlers to be born in; he still wanted it to be treat seriously, with shit that made sense, as that kind of wrestling makes people keep coming back- as it did every week during the territories.
Yes, it can be updated, but that doesn’t mean completely changing what the business is about, & turning it into a reality tv sideshow.
Jim wasn’t one for just using the over the hill gang, except in certain spots: either as special attractions, who would make occasional performances, or as enhancement talent, who would put the young guys/girls over, and teach them how to work.
Russo said he wanted wrestling to be like the Jerry Springer Show, & wrote it like that; and now the Jerry Springer Show is even more dated, and phoney-looking, than almost anything that went on during the days of the territories.
And, as Dutch pointed out, the fan base for that car crash-type of reality show-like wrestling, is incredibly fickle; if you solely play to them, you have to keep doing even more outlandish shit to keep their attention, which is impossible to sustain, & they’re always going to get bored & drift off, which is what happened after the late 90’s/early-mid 2000’s wrestling boom, with ratings falling considerably from where they had been.
