Well if you a PhD in music like they do, you wouldn't be saying, "how good a drummer is..." you hoser! This is Dream Theater they're musical artists and know what their doing.
The idiots who complain about portnoy using similar patterns in quite a lot of his drum fills fail to realize this simple thing. There is more to drumming than flashy fills and that includes playing drums as per the demands of the song. Portnoy does that better than almost every other prog metal drummer who might actually be more technical than him.
I've listened to this song countless times but I've never noticed until now all the ghost notes he hits in the section after the breakdown. That's freaking insane.
Can someone tell me: Around 6:00 Minutes it sounds kinda like there is another layer of drums going on. Like the snare is doubled with a some low floor toms. Is that my brain or is it actually on the recording but from a different session. I mean obviously this would require more than two hands so it would have to be a seperate recording.
tommy29380 i wouldn’t say that. mangini is still relatively new compared to portnoys 25 years. also manginis technicality simply blows portnoys out of the water. but this all depends on where you look at it from. both are fantastic
and how many bands have you been in and how many fans do you have and how many musos have you influenced and how many drumming awards have you won voted by people?????
Mike is so good he can change his clothes and tie up his hair while playing, AND HE NEVER MISSED A BEAT!
It says a lot about how good a drummer is when a drum part for a song sounds like a tune in itself.
Well the song was actually made by him, so it kind of makes sense in that case

When 10 minutes of plain drums have beginning, developing, end and make a meaningful musical piece ...

Oh yeah same! Kind of get lost in the final mix a bit hey
Portnoy is simply an incredible drummer.
Mike is still better than Mike
@@starkard_AoE I must disagree. Mike is still better than Mike imo.
@@iLoveCreepersss Personally, I think Mike is better
What a delicious drum sound, best sound MP and DT ever had drum wise, imo
Honestly love his sound on black clouds
Agreed
I respect him for filming himself recording all those songs. It is so geat for a drummer who's taking influences from him
Best song to listen to on Father's Day.
I don't think you entirely understood the meaning of the song.
Don't cross the crooked step
It's for his stepfather, who apparently wasn't that kind
@@beker_the_victor he threw him out of the house so yeah
It's best of time
Though I've not heard every song Dream Theater has produced, I still believe this is one of the very best. Exceptional in every way.
His drum parts are always catchy, memorable, and musical. Appealing to drummers and non/ air drummers alike.

The best way to put a hat: playing drums
5:03 DON'T CROSS THE CROOKED STEP
I stop by every once in a while to hear that slick fill at 6:54
I'm exhausted just hearing this...
the best live performance musician for 12 years, the drummer that every guitarist in the world dreams to play with, you man is a legend
9:58 love it so much
I get lost in time and space listening to MP....so good!!
The groove is insane. I'm lovin' it.
my inspiration✌️
Que criatividade 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
CHE MOSTRO ASSOLUTO!
Fantástico video. Él hace lo que hay que hacer para que el tema salga redondo. Por eso es uno de los grandes.
That fucking snare!
Thanks for the videos Mike! Amazing as usual!
Remember
It's Mike Portnoy....
Como hay 6 personas a las que no le gusta esto?????? Es porque no pueden hacerlo jaja

Oficina G3 was here kkk

jesus?

2* view
Mangini can't do that. He's like a robot compared to Portnoy
How do you know that? Have you asked him?
@@mickemoris saw him.
Mangini doesn’t have the same energy, you can hear and see it. Not the best fit for dream theater

@@EthanTheGreat9000 Now tell me how many times you've re-listened to the Portnoy-era albums vs. Mangini-era albums.
soo overrated..
Strabunitz post your video. I'm sure you suck. Especially compared to MP.
Who you? Totally. :D
