    I have one! I take it with me for work trips in my checked suitcase. It is a luxury to have a piano in my hotel room to come home to at the end of the day. And it’s fun to take it over to a friends house, unroll it and play for them what I’m working on.

    I had a 61 roll-up before and got rid of it for a Folding Piano 88 from Carry-On. The keyboard folds into 4 pieces which is handy to put into a suitcase. The latest release of the keyboard is touch sensitive.
    A roll-up piano was invented at least 2 decades ago. So far no manufacturer managed to make the keys touch sensitive. Since the keys are basically sitting on the table, don't think any of them will ever be touch sensitive unless a manufacturer would raise the keys slightly higher like the Folding Piano 88 which is a fraction of an inch high. With a bit of height, the keyboard can detect whether you're pressing a key slowly or quickly giving a softer or louder sound.

    I think it sounds better than most. I am looking for a good sound. I have 5 pianos but travel a lot. I want a roll up for hotels and 9 hour plane rides!

      That's a really good argument for these that I didn't think of - pretty much your only option if you want to play on a flight!!

    This kind of hand-rolled pianois especially suitable for beginners or daily practice . It is easy to carry and not easy to damage. Our company specializes in producing this kind of product.

    Not for professional use but for solo practice its more than enough.

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally disagree...even a beginner will be held back by the lack of touch response. Not being able to play notes at different volumes will put a damper on the progress of even a 6 year old beginner student.

      @@PianowithNateI think that also depends on what you are practicing for. Pianos are used for more than just actual piano practice. For example it is common to use one to support singing practice.

    Which one would u say is the best. I myself am a pianist but my friend needs one of these roll ups and i swear i have no clue which is a good choice.

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is the only one I've tried. My impression is that none of them are very good. Does your friend absolutely need a roll-up keyboard because of space/traveling? I would highly recommend a regular keyboard with touch sensitive keys if at all possible.

    to be honest, the key press velocity is kinda a big deal for pianists, and it's like, it could be pretty simply to code and implement, and feel like the creators of the device could team up with some pianists like you and a few others and like. fine tune it to be a better device more in line with being translatible from real keywork to the device or from the device to real keywork, and allow for finessment and instantiation and greater reverb and note calls like.... It has potential.

    Someone gifted me one of these for Christmas about 13 years ago. The box art for mine looks almost the same as yours, and it seems the technology itself hasn't evolved in that time either. 😅
    I keep hoping some reputable manufacturer will take this concept under their wing and develop it with actual musicianship in mind. I'm talking high-quality silicone with a good amount of give, properly raised accidental keys, better keypress recognition, etc. I have a feeling the concept could work well if only it were given proper R&D backing and quality control. Alas, the makers of these seem to regard them only as novelty toys and are uninterested in putting out anything approaching a usable musical instrument.
    Ever seen the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Lessons"? There's a lovely scene where Captain Picard and his lady friend make music together in the belly of the ship. She uses a gold-plated roll-up piano that sounds like a powerful grand piano. (Thanks to the magic of post-production, of course!) Ever since I saw that episode many years ago, ***that*** is what I've wished these flimsy things could be... 😮‍💨

      I totally agree, great concept if someone can only execute it well! Oh man, that Star Trek scene is awesome, I just looked it up haha: th-cam.com/video/c4y_oWBiwAo/w-d-xo.html

      Hi Wendy! Honestly this is the only one I have ever played on and I was more reviewing the concept than the particular model. I'm sure there are other reviews or comparisons online that will be more helpful...good luck!
