    1. I have learned learners obtain ownership of diverse social practices of the language and participate effectively in their life.
    Understanding oneself is important because generations today is more sensitive as a teacher I should apply also this context because I have my own personality too.
    Realistic examples and scenarios very important especially in giving examples in teaching we can deliver a good message when we used real-life scenarios.
    2. Two things that should I apply right now; first, maintain my communication to my learners and understand them through questioning, observation and other concepts that we can gain information about him.
    Second, we should learned together because is not good for teachers that s/he is the only one who learned or knew what he been talking or discussing, for us learners we feel that we are in the same ticket and station, but you riding first because you only think of yourself.
    3. What are the principles that we can apply for the learners having language disorders? Especially right now in new normal setup.

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These principles are for those 'normal learners' learning a second language. Though these principles can help facilitate learners with special needs, they are also given their own "remedial instruction" or "special instruction" kasi they have different case.

    3 things that I have learned from the lesson :
    1. Provide a realistic context to use language it leads to better long retention have activities that arouse their interest. It is the best way to engage students in real-world activities so that they can experience what is being taught in the lesson.
    2. Be patient with students not all students are good at using the
    language if students have lapses in using the language such as grammar and pronunciation nicely correct them.
    3. I learned that with intrinsic motivation we should know the needs, wants, and desires of the learners so that we can apply strategies that motivate their interest.
    2 things that I will do to apply what I have learned.
    1. As a student I should accept my lapses and be open-minded all the time.
    2. As a future teacher I will engage my students in real-world activities in order for them to experience what is being taught in the lesson. I strongly believe that students learn best if you will let them experience the things that will benefit them in the future also, it will boost their confidence and apply their critical thinking skills in the said activities.

    As I watch the video of Principle of Second language learning I learn that teaching a second language to the students should need principle that can help them more to learn. Like providing them a realistic context to use in language that can help to have a better long retention. Having content that can arouse their eagerness to learn by having it connected to their wants , needs or goals in life. Last one is it's good to have an anticipation of reward that will encourage their more in learning the second language but too much can lead to bad outcome.
    As a future teacher on teaching second language , in order to help my students to have language fluency I will let them speak fairly in the class without judging or discriminating on how they speak. Then I will conduct a activities that can help their language fluency problem. And it will help their confidence on having social interaction within their classmate that can help them to to social outside the classroom.

    3 things I have learned
    According to brown the principle of language learning is divided into 3 majors domain. Cognitive principles, Linguistics principles, Socio affective principles these majors principles concern the needs of the learners.
    Cognitive principles I learned that giving reward-driven the learners become more motivated to do the task and the long retention become meaningful. Linguistics principles I learned that the learners create more or they can learn more on their own to let the learners discover and to give the students to develop their self steam confidence. Social affective principles I learned that learning is a complex system by connecting the culture. Learners become motivated to accept the next challenge and the more they try the more they can learn. Let's avoid comparing to that person who fluently the way to speak. This principle is very useful to obtain the needs of the learners to learn.
    2 things that I apply.
    1. I will make to gain more confidence so that wherever I go I can manage myself well. Because self steam is very essential for us. We can't stand out if don't have that.
    2. As a future teacher, I will apply the principles to become more effective in teaching. I keep balancing and treat them equally. Having fun at the same time they are learning.
    1 Question:
    Every learners, have different attitudes and beliefs how can pertain this principle to become more effective for the learners?

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, our learners are diverse. With this, we need to determine their learning styles so we can facilitate their learning with the help of these principles.

    3 things (and more) that I have learned from the lesson:
    1. There are a lot of factors to consider you are a good English speaker not just being able to speak the language but as to know its principles and its system.
    2. There are so many ways to educate students or to correct them in their errors in grammar, not directly correct them in front of the class (also based on experience. Hehe.)
    3. Provide realistic context to the students, that can be used their daily everyday lives, and not some deep, ancient, English words just to make the teacher look good or smart (experienced this in high school).
    4. Don't rush the student. Each and everyone of us has our own phase of learning and doing things.
    5. English fluency is not a measure of one's intelligence.
    2 things that I will do to apply what I have learned:
    1. APPRECIATION or RECOGNITION has a lot of impact to the students' motivation. It may be just a simple "very good" but I know it will boost the students confidence in learning.
    2. I can and will use this principles as my guide in becoming a more effective and efficient teacher in the future.
    1 question about the lesson:
    I don't have a question on the lesson but I do have a realization: English language is a very well adapted language in our time. It is interlaced with the speaker's or user's culture, environment and feelings. There is no perfect English, since English language will differ in every part of the world. It maybe right or understandable here, but not in some places. Therefore, we should never, ever undermine someone who doesn't speak fluent English or is having a hard time learning it. Remember, if they're not good in English language, it means to say they are fluent in another language.

    3 things I have learned from this lesson
    I have learned that there are 3 principles of language teaching, according to Brown (1994) and these principles are Cognitive Principles, Linguistic Principles and Socio-affective principles. In cognitive principles, which there are 5 ways on how to catch the attention of the language learner and these are anticipation of reward, meaningful learning, automaticity, strategic investment and intrinsic motivation, in this principles it catches my interest because its focus is not only limited to context of meaningful learning but, it also addresses the needs, wants, and desires of the learners. In linguistic principles, which there are 3 ways or parts to teach language and this are Native language effect, communicative competence and interlanguage. in this principle I think it is very helpful for the learners like me who is not confident to speak English because of the fluency on how we speak English. lastly in socio-affective principles, where there are 4 parts, language-culture correction, self-confidence, risk-taking, and language ego, I am going to agree about the more you give challenges for the learners the more they can learn, students may be find it hard but little by little they can work on it.
    2 things I will do:
    I am going to work and to have improvement in terms of my self confidence, and engage more my self such activities to help me grow and bare in mind that I can do it.
    Watch every words that may sound offensive to others to prevent misunderstanding about how individual perceive things.
    1 Question:
    After listening today's lesson and learning about the 3 principles. In linguistic principles where interlanguage occur. In todays generation children now a days tends to speak more in English language than their native language and native language effect creates both facilitating and interfering effects on learning. With that matter, how can we help learner to acquire meaningful learning?

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The native language is the first language of the child. If his native language is English, then, we don't have much problem at all. In that way, his native language really facilitates learning.

    3 things I have learned.
    1. Provide realistic context and learning that is transferable to the real world.
    2. Knowing the student's needs, wants, desires and how they learn would be easier for the teacher to identify what strategy he/she should use in language teaching.
    3. It all boils down to balancing. Too much of everything could result into something that is undesirable.
    2 things I will do to apply what I have learned.
    1. I will keep myself updated on things that is happening in the world to provide realistic context.
    2. I will practice the act of balancing because sometimes I tend to overdo something.
    1 question about the lesson.
    How and when can we identify if what we have given to students is too much?

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to Education World, we are giving too much if we help everyone with every request. We are willing to work nights and weekends to assist students with problems, yet getting less in return, still giving low scores and poor performances. This is what we called as "generosity burnout". In addition, xperts say you probably know you are doing too much when you feel that you give a lot more than you get from others, or feel exhausted by helping.

    3 things I have learned from the lesson:
    1. I have learned that there are principles that could enhance those students eagerness in learning language.
    2. It gives more ideas on handling students lock of confidence.
    3. There are a lot of ways that a student could learn in learning the second language or English language.
    2 things I will do:
    1.I need to push myself to get comfortable with making errors. However, you should also look for ways to get low-stakes practice: create situations in which you feel more comfortable trying out your new language and making those inevitable mistakes.
    2. balance my study plan. Mix of study activities that target both spoken and written language, and gives attention to all three key principles.
    1 question:
    Is it more convenient to non-fluent English speaker students if they follow those principles?

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, these are the principles in teaching and learning English as a second language.

  • @djhero7093

    3 things I have learned from the lesson?
    1.I learned that positive and negative comments for the students must be balance inorder for them to learn effectively.
    2.Native language or MTB teaching affects learners in studying second language like English.
    3.giving rewards to the students had a very big impact for the students to learn effectively or else recognized them what ever they does in a good meaningful way.
    2 things that I will do to apply what I have learned:
    1.I will recognized my students everytime they answer and I love giving rewards for them, at the same time I will correct them if they committed mistakes but in a proper way.
    2.I will teach them the way they want but there's a limit in addition with a proper guidance as well.
    1 question from the lesson:
    What is a good teacher? The one who has a good communication skills in teaching but he/she doesn't have a good relation with there students or the teacher that does not so good in communication but he/has a good relation to there students.

    1. I learned that in meaningful learning teachers must provide a realistic context to use language for the students to put their learning into a long-term memory. For example, it is much more effective if we give a task to students that has relevance in their lives in such a way that they can integrate what they learn in the classroom outside.
    2. I learned that automaticity is the subconscious processing of language fluency. Student should not overthink in learning language like they don’t have to study it thinking that they should learn it in just a short period of time. For example, my niece a five-year old child doesn’t go to school yet but because she is constantly expose in Peppa pig an English cartoon for kids. She can speak English because it is automatic that we learn from something we are constantly exposed to.
    3. I learned that in self-esteem confidence students must first believe in themselves that they can do it because for me it starts there. In order for us to learn something especially in learning language we must first have the mindset that we can do it. It will motivate us to continue learning it. The role of the teachers as well is to motivate and believe that their students can do it as well.
    Application:
    1. I constantly expose myself in learning language by watching and listening to different speakers most of the time in Ted Talks, motivational speakers and sermons. I watch movies that uses the language that I intend to learn. I listen and communicate people that are using it.
    2. I must believe that I can learn this language because of that I will consciously and intentionally make time and effort to learn the language.
    Question:
    Is it appropriate that some (not all) people or student have this mindset that people who speak English fluently are smart and intelligent?

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, being able to speak the English language is not a guarantee of intelligence. Traditionally, for some, it is, we have multiple intelligences. Every learner is intelligent in some other aspect, may it not be linguistically.

    3 things I have learned from the lesson:
    1. I have learned that there are 12 Principles of Language Learning but they are categorized into three: Cognitive principles, Linguistic Principles, Socio-affective Principles.
    2. Second, I've learned that each principle or categories or domain plays an important role and that they are made to complete each other and that without the other the principles will fail.
    3. I was able to identify myself how each category is different from each other but still compliments each other in some other way.
    2 things I will do:
    1. As a student, I will apply all the principles in learning the language so that I will not have a hard time learning and applying what I have learned in the near future or in my everyday life.
    2. As a future educator, it is my duty or responsibility to guide my students to learn and at the same time enjoy language so that they will be able to grasp the true importance of why we should learn language through applying the 12 Principles.
    1 Question:
    1. Does learning all the 12 Principles enough for the student to become great at speaking or using the language?

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These principles are just our guide. Learning a skill takes more practice, more exposure, and hands-on activities. Also, it is a collaborative effort between the learner and the teacher. I would say, if we follow these principles, surely, there is learning.

    3 things I have learned from the lesson:
    *I have learned that there are 3 Principles of Language Learning and that is according to Brown (1994). These principles are the following:
    1. Cognitive Principle- under this principle are anticipation of reward, provide meaningful learning, automaticity, strategic investment, and intrinsic motivation.
    2. Linguistic Principle- under this principle are native language effect, communicative competence, and interlanguage.
    3. Socio-Effective Principle- under this principle are language-culture connection, self-confidence, risk-taking, and language ego.
    *These principles give us the idea of how language teachers should address language teaching to meet learners needs and wants to learn the language.
    *Learning a second language does not happen with just an overnight work, hence one must be aware of these principles so he/she can have the guide on what aspect does he/she is battling or having the hard time learning.
    2 things I will do:
    *As a student, I will develop my self-esteem by not comparing myself with other fluent speakers instead practice the second language through speaking and writing.
    *As a future teacher, I will use these principles in guiding mu students learning the language by providing encouragement to my students so they will be encourage and motivated to practice, employing variety of strategies to cater learners' multiple intelligences and learning styles, giving balance feedback, by creating lessons that will arouse learners' interests, and most of all, believing in my students.
    1 Question:
    *In today's set up of learning, what is the best strategy to give meaningful learning to students?

    • @SirChann
      @SirChann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With our current set-up, still there are ways to give them meaningful learning. For example, in the area of speaking, after discussing, you can let them record a speech at home, at least that way, they can still practice more for better output.

    According to Brown, H. D. (1994), there are three major types of Principles; namely Cognitive (Mental and Intellectual), Linguistic (Languages), and Socioaffective (Emotional).
    First, Cognitive includes Anticipation of Reward (reward= better performance), Meaningful Learning (lead to long-term retention), Automaticity (students absorb language automatically), Strategic Investment (employs to internalize and to perform language), and Intrinsic Motivation (comes from within an individual rather than any external rewards).
    Second, Linguistic includes Native Language Effect (many efforts are caused by native language interference), Communicative Competence (fluency, accuracy, and to use of language appropriately in real-world contexts), and Interlanguage (a developmental process during which time they use the language imperfectly).
    Third, Socio-affective includes Language-Culture Connection (cultural values and different ways of thinking), Self-confidence (believe that they can achieve their language learning goals), Risk-taking (take risks and accomplish more), and Language Ego (developing new ways of “thinking, feeling, and acting-a second identity”)
    To sum up, the 12 Principles are the major foundations for language learning.
