I've used this grout removal and regrouting technique to refresh all the old dirty grout between all my floor tiles and wall tiles in kitchen, laundry and bathrooms, bit-by-bit, over many years. A big and successful project. I found it generates a lot of dust, simultaneous vacuum cleaning is essential. The multitool also chews through a lot of these expensive carbide grout removal blades. But the really pleasing end result justifies the expense and effort.
I used Davco Rejuvenation Grout (Antique Lace colour). It comes premixed in small pails, a bit expensive, but lends itself to working in small areas when I had small amounts of free time available.
This grout is designed to stick to existing grout which means that you only have to remove a small depth of old dirty grout crust, doesn't have to be removed all the way down to the floor substrate. I used a small tiling sponge in alternating half-circular motions to flush the regrout lines with the surface of the tiles, and a microfibre cloth to polish off the fresh haze left over on the tiles after final sponge clean - don't wait too long because the dried haze is hard to remove, requires real sweaty effort.
If/when it dries out slightly and gets a bit stiff in the pail, I just added some water and used a scraper to stab/mix the water in to make it nice and buttery again, like thick yoghurt. No need to throw any away, just spray surface of pail contents with water, keep pail closed and store inside a plastic bag in a cool place.

Much easier and cleaner way is to use a piping bag along the joints filling as you go along. After a while, simply use a wide putty filler/knife to clean the now filled joints. Then simply use a clean damp cloth to finish. The way the guy in the video did it is labour intensive and uses so many different tools when all you need really are two.

What’s wrong with just using a regular rubber grout float, so you get to push the grout in and have full consistent joints?
Also I would suggest using a regular 3 gallon bucket 🪣 and a margin trowel to mix with and just a regular grout sponge.

the easiest way to remove grout is with a cordless grinder with a thin metal cutting blade ! It is a very dusty process so is not suitable for every type of job .
The grout shown in this example is far too wet . Being a cement product grout needs to mixed with the minimum of water and should be tooled into the joints . A washboard is the best way to wash off excess grout . The 45^ wipe is the most even way to wash off .

  • @inothing7370
    @inothing7370 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Lol ok.. Don't do this. Grout needs to be worked into the joints by hand. This will prevent voids from forming in the grout lines. It also allows you to see where the grout has filled the joint entirely and where it has not. Work in small areas and batches.. avoid black grout as it is a bitch to clean up. However, if it's a high traffic area black is particle.

When your tile is installed and the grout has cured, seal the grout with a grout sealing product. If done correctly and reapplied often enough, your grout looks like new without stain or flaw for decades. If you do not want to hire a professional to do this, do one section at a time every day off until it is totally completed. Don't expect your hired housekeeper to keep your grout flawlessly clean if it is not properly sealed.

Question: the tile that's been in the house for the last 50 the grout doesn't crack or chip off ever.. HOWEVER someone install some tile in my house last year and it's cracking already. The floor got wet and it really cracking down. Why is 50 years old grout not cracking at all and 1 year old grout cracking fast?

You need to clean the tiles first. Otherwise the white cement will be dirty in no time

An in 20 minutes I’d use the down shot aerosol grout sealer an call it a day after it sets, wipe the face of the tile.👌

Well here's my two cents this is after you have laid the tile down silence glue the tiles are dried and you're ready to grout grout the tiles leave the grout on all the cracks and I am the surfaces of the tiles do not clean them you do not need to use a bucket and water and sponges ever again I invented this about 15-20 years ago and I've showed a lot of tile guys how to do it no buckets of water no getting on your knees and cleaning you throw sawdust all over the tiles on top of them leave the grout there it will not stick to the grout come back tomorrow morning or hours later with a hard bristle broom all you do start somewhere just sweep it away but the hard bristle broom it takes the sawdust and the grout right off the tiles go back and forth motion sweep it up throw the sawdust away now come with come in with some cold water to the tile or the ground clean as a whistle and a cold hot water mop you're down try it you'll save hours no water no sponges no buckets of water nothing I'm trying to get others to understand it they just don't get it and it's really simple we were building a bar one night and they just laid the tiles the during the daytime nobody walked on it so at night the grouters were coming in here all the sawdust you want cuz I never bring in 55 gallon drum El sawdust form they were stacking all the 20-50 buckets 20 30 sponges and hooking up a big hose and I told you never need it they told me I was crazy so they grounded at all I told him just wait take your lunch and just wait no we need to do it now no wait so I got the manager guy I told him now you and I spread sawdust all over this floor what floor we need to water it I should know you don't lose any water and by 5:00 in the morning six when you're ready to go home you sweep it up cold mop it and you're done he couldn't believe what I saw I told him all I'll take my check tonight when you get here to finish the other side he said what check I said hey I just saved you three hours four hours I think that's worth the paycheck from you he didn't come back with a check he gave me 3 hours of cash he said are you going to be here tonight all night I'm watching my crew doing the framing and drywall I'll show you again how to do it and he brought a different crew in so they could see it be done they were all shocked I call it dry NO WATER CLEANUP grouting if I knew how to make a video like this I'd show people it's so simple and I said you don't need all those men there you can do more floors in a day than ever before you can have a whole day crew just making sure all the time is set stuck to the floor first 2 hours they come in they grout the whole place then it sit for half hour 40 minutes start throwing the sawdust two three hours from now maybe four start sweeping it out and you're done

Lysol blue toilet bowl cleaner. Much easier. Works only on floor though. But don’t use it on natural stone.
